Another golfer on here agrees, but he uses the wedge instead of 7 iron for his example. I don't know why they're called 'clubs' because that's the wrong mentality to use...after 3 years I've just now discovered this.
The advice of letting the back side of the club lie on the ground confuses me as with shaft lean this would seem impossible. At the range I attempted to have shaft lean and have back of club on the ground and could not possibly do it.
@@jackdorris2349 a coach said this to me too. As i understood that it, means that the proper setup is when the back side of the club is down, the face seems to be too open although the sweet spot really isn't. Or that's how the club is supposed to be designed to be played. Off course too much shaft lean makes this kind of impossible but too much shaft lean is too much :D
nothing more devastating then nailing a tee shot on a par 5 and then topping your 3 metal 50 yards after a monster drive Thanks Dave Liam: Really enjoying the way you have added variety to to the channel A interesting match, some banter, twists to a game with your Golf Mates (like Back to the Future) , and tips / methods with Dave and Lee to improve our games. Of course I could just watch OMP with a pint in his hand telling stories.. :-) but love the variety!
Dave's the man!! My problem has always been trying to crush the 3 wood. I have egoitis that tells me less than 210 with a 3 wood is a bad shot. I know it's always better to hit it 190 and have it in the fairway, but egoitis is a serious malady! I've been doing better, but still have to remind myself constantly.
Smiley has a cheerful and easy delivery, but I really like the way Dave communicates these lessons. You can tell he has a lot of experience as a golf educator/coach. I'm going to try these tips this afternoon!
A very good video that I was offered here by TH-cam! No unnecessary lectures about physics, golf friends or life itself, but clearly shown examples with clear explanations. I also like the checklists that are always displayed. I'm already looking forward to more tips from you.
Great simple tips Dave (as always)... When I get the 3 wood off the fairway right (or the 5 or 7 wood) they are one of the things that really makes me smile. But when I duff it then it can precipitate a bunch of bad shots 'cos it wrecks your frame of mind.
I certainly agree. Nothing like getting a good solid strike with the three. If I sky a drive it just don’t get the distance I want, that three wood can really get you back in the game. Dave made good points here.
Great tip about resting the back of the fairway wood on the ground - the club is often my fave club and then backs up with not wanting it in my bag the following game. That tip has provided me with new found consistency. Thanks so much mate!
Excellent video. Excellent golf tips Dave.I see Golfclub Pros taking an hour to get these tips over to golfers at the range. Your style of teaching is so clear and efficient I keep all of your teaching videos for revision at any one time. Thanks Dave and Thanks Liam for putting out these instructional videos which I welcome with open arms and mind.
Great video Dave the Golf Mates Pro. I was at the range this morning working on my fairway metals. Should have watched your video first. Awesome lesson Dave the Pro👍👍🏌️⛳️🇨🇦
Dave the Pro comes thru with another great video lesson that is simple to understand. When it comes to a golf lesson sometimes less is more! Thank you.
Dave- first, thanks for all the funny one liners in your recent match against the Bolton Bangers. You did the impossible, left Mr B mostly speechless. Second, thanks for straight forward fairway wood tips. Will put them to good use tomorrow. Cheers, mate!
Very funny and entertaining last hole from Liam, as he said there's always another day! Trevor plays with thought, Housewife's choice plays his own game which works for him. Well played
Good tips Dave,Loved the tongue lashing you gave Mr Barlow last week, about living on his own.Gave him a proper monstering.Never seen that before, poor man was lost for words.😶
Great tips, I hit some great 3 woods today. I pured one about 240 yards. Always keep three tips in my mind before I hit. I keep my weight a bit forward, think about a light divot, and lock my eyes on that ball. Swing easy is my best tip, do NOT try and kill it.
Great video once again from Dave. I am currently working on scoring shots, for example from 0 to 100 yards. Some of your excellent videos would help me greatly.
Thanks Dave. A great tip simply explained. I’ve been topping 5 wood recently and can see this is down to ball position and too narrow a stance. Hoping for a big improvement now.
Thank for show the front view also . Now I know how to position myself ! They usually show the side view which isn’t good for me ! Very well explained, thank you!
I was taught to hit my hybrids and fairway woods like you hit irons. I like your tip on a slightly wide stance but still hitting down on the ball, will try that out this week, Cheers for another great instructional tip
My fairway woods are just in the bag for decoration although I did get a GIR on a steep uphill 190 yard par 3 with my 3 wood last week about 6 feet from pin
Best tip I have ever heard for fairway woods. Tried it and suddenly the 3 wood is getting out of the bag and not just being taken für a walk 3 times a week. Nice one Dave..
Great Video by Dave. Liam was on about hybrids I've got a video up on how to use the hybrid which a 5 wood can be used with just the same effect. However I feel hybrids are easier to hit. I can't hit a 3 wood to save my life whereas Liam loves his each to their own I suppose
Great instructional. I’m finally getting it through my head, this three wood will do its job unless you try to force distance that is unrealistic anyway. Nice and smooth, a real pleasure then to see that ball seemingly spring off the club face. Thanks.
Wonderful advice, Dave. My biggest issue is because the club has the longest shaft of any club that I will use to hit a ball on the ground, I try to "steer" the club head into the ball to make sure I don't "heel" or "toe" the ball, and end up gripping the club too tightly, not properly releasing the club head.
Cheers Dave, Great video. I was sweeping at the ball and you said we should be hitting down at the ball. I was lashing at the ball and you said swing like a 7 iron. I was topping the ball and you said play around with the position. OK I am not hitting my 7 wood 200yds but it is carrying 160 yds (roll on the summer). We need to see more of these tips from you. Great video! The hybrid one actually worked a bit too good today… found myself in trouble I never thought I’d be able to reach. Well, I’ve had worse problems on the course. 😅
I can hit hybrids pretty well. 3 wood is more difficult for me but if I swing easy, as Dave says, then thats when I can get the better results. However, if I'm laying up I would rather use a 3 hybrid than 3 wood. 3 wood on the fairway is really just for the odd occasion I want to try and have a go for the green....I tend not to do that if its that far out :-)

Couldn't agree more with taking it easy and let the club do its job
👍
"use your 7 iron swing" is great advice. I tend to think of my 3 wood as closer to my driver but that is truly the wrong mindset. Thank you!
Another golfer on here agrees, but he uses the wedge instead of 7 iron for his example. I don't know why they're called 'clubs' because that's the wrong mentality to use...after 3 years I've just now discovered this.
Agree totally... Great point!
Agree. Great advice
You mean there are different swings……?
Not just thrash at it. - and hope
Letting the back side of the club lie on the ground is a tip I don't think I've heard before. Going out to try it. Like the way Dave keeps it simple.

Great way to address common faults and explain what they result in - ball, backside, widen & swing - all so easy
