When my Mom was sick in a rehab, I told her I was going to get her home for Christmas. She died on December 12th. I guess she did go home, but not the earthly one...This song always reminds me of that, and I ALWAYS cry. It's one of my favorite holiday songs.

As a Marine veteran, this song has more solace to me than most others in my 20 years serving away from family through the holidays. I'd only started finding my voice through songwriting a few years before enlisting, and inspired by a huge number of Loggins' compositions. 40 years later, this song still reminds me of the importance of family recognition and communication of those vibes through music. Losing Maurice White (founder of Earth, Wind & Fire) and Al Jarreau that same year, I was inspired to write a song in homage to those who pass away. "Keep My Love Alive" released by Jevon McGlory.
As long as we remember and pass on these rich memories of family and friends through rituals and stories of life lessons learned, we in essence Keep them all alive as a perpetual legacy.

Played this my freshman year in college, door open, full volume and I think everyone knew it after that.
Jody, I had that identical experience, although I think it was coming from every room in the dorm. Whenever I play this song, I remember leaving school to go home for Christmas freshman year. Being excited, but for the first time in my life, feeling as if I was somehow leaving my new family at the same time.

My husband passed xmas eve two years ago; we were very close; he still sends me signs; just moments ago this song popped into my head out of nowhere; significant because he was a Loggins fan, died on xmas, and when i have busy days at work and he feels like he's been pushed out of my thoughts he always finds a way to send me a significant song that i will know is from him...i mean out of nowhere this song came into my head...didn't even realize it was a Loggins song....then when i read it was connected to xmas i knew it was my husband....Sweetheart I will always celebrate you home...as you are my home and I will always be yours til we meet again. Thank you for this beautiful song...gave me goosebumps.

I heard this song many years ago while shopping in the record department of EJ Korvettes in West Orange, New Jersey. I asked who was singing and they showed me the album. I bought it on the spot. Great memories!
Just seeing the name Korvettes brought back so many memories. Is that store still there? I left NJ for the West coast in 1976 but we always shopped there as a family when I was young. I sometimes miss the East coast, especially the people and the shore. The Pacific Ocean is close to us here but the Atlantic Ocean gets much warmer and is more fun to swim in, unless you go to Hawaii.

@@phyllislardieri6377 I have never heard the story and would love to know the answer. I just remember EJ Korvettes being a place where the whole family could shop for most of what we needed, especially for the new school year.
@@issy7023 it stood for Eight Jewish Korean Veterans. They met during the Korean War and decided to open a family oriented store when they returned. I loved that store!

With this song, anyday is a holiday. I saw him sing this soooo many years ago. The auditorium was filled with singing and such joy. What I loved most of all was that he performed barefoot and danced around. We all did that night. Precious memories, celebrate me home to a special time!

Early 1980's, coming home from England from RAF Mildenhall to Pennsylvania for Christmas. This song was my anthem that holiday season. My brother was a surprise visitor from the Navy arriving home late in a snowstorm on Christmas Eve. My mother would pass suddenly just 4 weeks later, this was the last Christmas we would spend with her. Needless to say, this song brings back a lot of memories this time of year. Hope you made it home from Japan for those holidays 5 years removed and thank you for your service. Happy Holidays to everyone.
It has been 6 months into our new home. We are still, still so grateful. Funny, it is an old home with lots of gotcha's. With every creaky floor and plumbing updates needed and no bath tub, just so happy. We are blessed. Love this song,
