“Here I am to save the day!!!!” Great instincts as always Dave! Page/Collins/Gabriel/Cornell.... spot on by design! Ian dissects, deconstructs, combines and re-arranges influences with a deep understanding of how to combine the parts. It moves it beyond collage or tribute into something wholly new... for an audience of ears such as ourselves that have so much burned in musical memory it’s IMPOSSIBLE to NOT hear the genetic threads in everything! I love the study of the creative machinery!
As to the EP. Ian’s logic is that for most of his career they have put out 15-16 track CD’s with like 80mins of music and since so much time and effort goes into every track idea, some of them get lost. Back in the album heydays there are at best 3-4 worthy tracks on most albums with Chuck Berry inpired filler in the rest. Some of the more dense classics engaged throughout, but most did not. Ian approaches his recordings with that classic artist mentality. Gems burried throughout. Therefore on many of the previous CD’s some of the later tracks would go unnoticed.
So On the 7’s (.1, .2, .3) they did 3 x 5 song EP’s. It gave a 2 year “interest” cycle to engage the audience, plus the ability to mini tour on each release.... shelf life increase! But the first 3 EP attempt was during covid so it was tough to guage results. BTW the 7’s are CHOCK FULL of wildy different goodies!
So Pages 1 is one of 3 planned EP’s (6 songs x3 EP’s each in the 30+ min range) as far as I know. Some really interesting stuff upcoming!
Again, thanks always for the ears to hear!
PS I also think that Ian is completely Page-centric in his approach.... so Pages... Page is... Page's (kids).... musical lineage for sure! Makes sense.
PPS I think Ian wrote that beginning pattern on a Fairlight....

Another great one from Big Wreck. I’ve yet to be disappointed by anything they’ve done. Not sure if you guys caught the interview Ian did with Rick Beato about a month ago, but it was really interesting listening to him. Thank guys.

One of the greatest intros to a song I think I've EVER heard!!!! JUST WOW!!! That feeling of hope and despair at the same time that it gives is SO BEAUTIFUL!

I get some David Gilmour/Pink Floyd vibes in parts too. Ian Thornley is the master fusion chef as I've said before. He finds all the best stuff from the greatest pioneers and puts it all together in a totally new thing. So tasty!

Like their last album, Pages is to be released in three parts...hence, "1" on this first release. "2" is yet to be released.
I have to say that those of us that have been around for awhile, and (have fully developed levels of patience, it seems) have a long history of awaiting a new release from their favorite artists, would sit and listen to the album in it's entirety...without other distractions...as an event.
Evidently, attention spans are growing shorter with the younger generations, and there just isn't enough time in the day in this hectic, topsy-turvy world, to dedicate to an entire album in a single sitting. The mystery is how listening to one album actually takes up more time than binge watching hours of a television series...but I digress.

I would like to kindly suggest a few Big Wreck songs from the "Grace Street" album for reaction. They are "The Arborist". "A Speedy Recovery" and a very cool instrumental called "Skybunk Marché". LOVE the channel!

Grace Street is a dud. Arborist is cool. Skybunk is cool...unfortunately, a lot of duds on that album.

The thing with Big Wreck EP’s, they’ve put out 4 of them in the last 2 years. 6 or so songs each. While typically, bands release full length albums once every 2-3 years. We’re getting more songs with the EP’s.

the beginning of this track reminded me of Paul Simon's "Can't Run But" of his Rhythym Of The Saints Album. Drumming very Phil Collins esque. Husky singing too. Good tune. I think Dave checked out one of the Hollywood Vampire's tracks. Here's a cool track featuring Johnny Depp doing his Depp thing and featuring some interesting hair Alice Cooper also supplies background vocals. It's the tune, "Heroes" th-cam.com/video/U8VnYZLWr_s/w-d-xo.html
