This came out at the perfect time! I’m picking up a 20g reef tank setup, it’s not my first rodeo but I’ve never had a dosing pump and there’s one included!
Awesome, looks great. I think an actual ATO would be better then using a dosing pump for ATO. Evaporation isn’t always consistent, there are a lot of factors that can effect evaporation.
Hey, congratulations on the great dosing pump! Very nicely described, keep it up! 🤗 Is this done more often in Australia (or the US - saw a similar ATO replacement in a video by Reefgrrl)? As already written you should watch out for fluctuating evaporation if you want to use it as ATO. Not that you change your salinity and thus all other values creeping. Acropora in particular are not very forgiving of not suitable or fluctuating water parameters.
Thank you so much!! 🤩🙌🙌🙌 Yeah I’ll keep an eye on it! 😊 Got some mates with SPS tanks and use their doser as an ato replacement with no issues. That being said I might end up just getting an ato, but I’ll give this a go first 😁👌
@@SimpleAquariumsLauren Thank YOU! 😉 That would be good content for a later video, would‘t it? "What do I have to pay attention to if I want to use my dosing pump as an ATO replacement".😇 As long as the aquarium is located in an air-conditioned room and is not too large, this should work. For me, the evaporation varies between 1 and 6 liters per day (heating or fireplace on / off, summer, winter, etc.), so it no longer works ... so I use the good old manual watering can ATO. 😂
Using the Doser as an ATO may wear out the head really fast. I had a X1 that I used as ATO on my 110.4. In the winter, my house has a around 5% humidity, it was topping off around 4 gallons everyday. The pump head got worn out in a month. Digital Optical ATO is like 150 CAD. And they last forever.
Thanks for the video. This was interesting. My son has a number of X1s from the same company. They are good and use the same app. However, there is no color coding option or cradle for the tubes to enter sump or tank. Those are a plus for your model. Question: Does this model remember settings after a power outage? The X1 does not so he has them on a backup power supply. I look forward to the follow up video, and what supplement went to what color. My son, the Chem major, made RODI blue and gave the others colors based on their spectroscopy absorption. It is good to see an education is useful. 😉 Best wishes, Jim
@@SimpleAquariumsLauren Remember to register it; there is a time limit to do so. My son got a 1 year warranty on his X1s. I assume yours is similar. That is a good warranty period these days when many companies barely give 30 days. Enjoy, Jim
i know its a little behind to ask since it has been 4 months behind, just wondering whats the difference between the kamoer f4 pro wifi and the kamoer X5’s? btw new subcriber here. tia
Wow things are moving away from simple to sophisticated. Apparently all reefers will take automation and sophisticated gadget route in order to keep up with the progression of their dream tank. Looking back to just using a canister filter to keep a reef tank.... Hmmm seemed a decade ago. ;-)
I know of lots of people who use it as an ato replacement, with great success 🤔 I’ll see how it goes anyways. 😊 I may end up getting an ato, but thought I’d give this a crack first 😊🙌

Hi Lauren, lovely video, thank you :) in a new aquarium when do you start dosing the tank? thank you very much :)

Thank you! Yeah ATO might be the way to go eventually, but so far so good using the doser. Will see how it goes 🤩🙌🙌🙌
Great vid....What kind of light is that on your tank....Thank you!!!

Ok that’s an interesting point! Will see how we go, may just end up getting an ato. 🤩🙌🙌
Looks good, it does annoy me when a company doesn't include a paper template of where the holes are for the screws though
Thank you!! 🤩🙌🙌🙌 Yeah that would be handy 😊

Hey Lauren thanks for the video. I'm considering buying one of these. How are you liking it 2 years later?

Not a good idea to use as an ato, evaporation changes alot
