Love that it shows a side of Philip we never got, as well as explaining how badly it would’ve hurt from his perspective as opposed to seeing his obvious evil he was more hurt and lost without Caleb
The reason he appears more evil than sympathetic is most likely due to the fact that he never tried to save Caleb and instead killed him. . .in his eyes, he is killing a corrupted man and destroying everything “dangerous” to the human realm. In reality, Belos is a dangerous relentless psychopath who is killing his own brother simply for changing his perspective and destroying the entire realm of witches simply because he loved being a witch hunter.
@LabGoat and that was when Philip died a long time ago, and when Belos was born, the night he killed his own brother after being in too deep of the Witch hunter doctrine and the like.

Caleb’s happy without him C. All that time and effort was all for nothing. All in all? Just to realize Caleb didn’t care for him. That he “didn’t care for what he wanted(to save him),” which is why he said the same thing to Hunter before he mortally wounded Flapjack. Though being a witch hunter had a major influence on his actions, that’s only a mask for hiding a petty response, just like how Masha put it. It’s not about saving humanity, it’s about him destroying his brother’s legacy to get back at him. Edit: wow, the show’s over, and to think I was close to what Papa Titan said about Belos with my last remarks.
@@labgoat6787 I think he tried killing Evelyn (in his eyes, "saving Caleb") but Caleb intervened and ended up being the one killed. I don’t think Philip killed Caleb intentionally, but once he did that's when everything related to Philip, Caleb, and later the grimwalkers became damaged and Philip hid them away(possibly with his emotions Happy & sadness, anything that'd make him feel bad. I mean we only see Belos with emotions of anger, fear, & disgust. Never happy or sad) Belos is most likely another inner self of Philip, to most likely protect Philip from anything relating to the truth. (Could explain why he tried to destroy Hunter after he discovered the truth) As well keeping Philip/Belos focused on the only other thing he has to live for. (Being a witch hunter, and most likely even revenge) Since maybe what he told Hunter about their family dying because of wild magic wasn't a lie, maybe it's what Belos believes is the true reason Caleb was killed.
Phillip may be Disney's most complex villain just based on the fact that every incarnation of his brother turns on him, and Phil never once considers that he's the problem, not Caleb. Like, the Belos facade was cool, but unlike Vader who was revealed to be a weak and broken man underneath, the person behind Belos's bronze face is even more interesting.
I think Phillip can be described as "weak and broken", but in a different way. Phillip was too weak to admit that he was ever wrong about anything. He couldn't accept that the poisonous worldview instilled into him was wrong, that his brother had indeed found love, and that the magical land he found himself in was a place of wonder and not evil. Like so many people in the world, Phillip couldn't sit down, take a deep breath, and ask himself if he was doing the right thing.
I think Philip is somewhere in between a Vader-like villain and just a monster. Everything he did was reactionary to the world and events around him, he wanted to be like Caleb when he became a witch hunter, he only journeyed to the Boiling Isles once his brother went missing, and his contempt for witches and demons grew as they hated and mistreated him. I think that when Philip found Caleb, his brother had changed so much that he assumed he was “corrupted” by Evelyn and couldn’t be saved, and saw death as a sort of mercy for his brother. The Grimwalkers were his way of trying to bring his brother back as he knew him, and he killed them when they showed signs of the same “corruption” as Caleb did. If things had been different, whether it was Caleb being more open with his brother about Evelyn or the hostility the Boiling Isles had for him, he never would have become Belos
@@stargazer3003The only reason the isles were even hostile towards him (that we see) is that he constantly brings people to die and buy him a little more time to reach the collector disc. The isles as a location are hostile towards everyone who live there, and unlike Luz who learned to live with and understand them, belos just didn't.
Just wanna highlight some things as I think a lot of people are not realizing how impressive this is. One person made this whole thing minus the audio. It may seem short, but a lot of things went into this one minute. -Characters and backgrounds drawn AND animated on model and in the show style. -Moving shots, and characters turning(which I know if I tried to draw that I’d have trouble with) -Fully detailed backgrounds(they look beautiful BTW) -coloring and shading(again matching the show closely, the glowing effects on the portal and Belos’s eyes are also very cool. How did you get it to look so good?) -understanding motion and being able to draw to make it look so smooth.I mean try watching at a lower speed just to see how many different drawings were made for some of the frames. You can see why animation takes time. Some of my favorite shots in this are the “became witch hunters” for the zoom out and transition from kid Philp to adult. That feels like a real shot from the show(minus the noose maybe. Doubt that they’d get away with that. Caleb turning, seeing Evelyn and Philp squishing his face, Philp getting chased by bees, Belos cutting his ears, are some of favorite shots.
Across Fandoms I've never quite seen someone stay so true to the original artstyle as you have, great animation. Also the freedom to add in darker imagery personally elevates this above the show so kudos.
Really? Meanwhile on my end I've yet to see anyone stray AWAY from the art style. Even my own commissions I've been paid to do the person always says to "copy the style please"
Irony. Philip is the most cruel and inhuman character in the series, but it was his story that touched people's hearts and inspired them to creativity.
Tbf, the show wasn’t given proper time to go deeper, and along with the fact Dana ended up hating Belos for how vile the writing for him was, the show ended up summing up his story as “who cares? He’s just a jerk lol,” leaving a lot to think about beyond that because of our imaginations and interests.
@@NickyYey however deep they were supposed to go, something dramatically changed to make him as much of a irredeemable jerk once 2A ended. He had his cruelty before, but 2B and 3 had an… off feel to how they made him evil.
I just realized how meaningful it is when Phillip huddles in the cave during the winter. It makes a nice Call Back to when Caleb lent his jacket. Not only does it show why that jacket is meaningful, but also expresses how lost and helpless Phillip feels without his brother.
Which was probably one of the reasons why he came to hate whiches and warlocks. Not just because of the witch hunter village he was influenced by, but also because he felt his brother was drifting away from him because he fell in love with a witch. After killing his brother, he felt like the world of witches ruined his life, so he dedicated his life to ruining the world of witches. It's ironic how when he became Blos, he shaped witch society to what he always viewed them as.
I do like that you made the clone not as accurate as Caleb 1:03 Because this is what Belos said, ''Out of all the grimwalkers. You looked the most like him"..as much of a shocking and heartbreaking line this is for Hunter..it tells us that...The older Grimwalkers were not as accurate looking clones of Caleb as Hunter as

You can just see Philip's heart snap in half when he saw his brother's new pregnant GF. Everything he loved and cherished destroyed and all the trouble he went through to find and save Caleb was for nothing.

His brother basically hunted innocent people who were so called witches and built that prejudice into his young brother in the attempt to help them fit in. Realized he was wrong when he met a hot witch and fell in love. Left his brother behind. I think his brother has some guilt there
Yeah ! I wanted to bring more nuance than “one was born good one was born evil”. I think it’s more complicated than that, and I tried my best to showcase how witch hunting was pretty much considered normal for people back then, and Caleb changed his mind because Evelyn slowly introduced him to a better way and most likely gave him a tour of the isles and such
Probably Caleb only was a witch hunter for the money that he and Philip needed to survive. Unlike his brother, he did not become a fanatic and kept an open mind, so when Evelyn appeared Caleb was able to quickly become attached to her. Even in Belos' own memories, it is seen that he was reunited with his brother when he had already become that mud monster. In those memories, it is seen that Caleb received his brother with open arms despite his condition.
OH MY GOD. Everything looks EXACTLY like the show (even if they can’t get away with showing a hanging, this short benefits from the darker tone. It’s literally jncensoring their past-so it should show the horror of where they came from.) Stunned as I am by the visuals, this is also brilliant storytelling! The parallels between kid Philip’s mask, and how he wore it while witch hunting, then used that as inspiration for his Emperor look- *because he used his role as emperor to plot the largest witch hunt ever.* Incredible. I am speechless. Can’t wait to share this with my siblings and see how long until they realize it’s not the actual show… And as someone set on animating in Clip Studio paint-did you use Toon Boom because fluid animation isn’t possible in CSP?
animating in CPS is possible, I just find it a ton harder ! The layer system confuses me a lot xD also, thank you so so much !!! I love how Philip kept his mask this entire time too. I bet he still has the original one safely stored somewhere.
This would explain Philips hatred for the boiling isles, while Caleb was show all the beauty of the isles Philip was exposed to all the dangers and the cruel reality of trying to survive their, and given how long his beard is he must have been there for months or even years looking for Caleb.
0:24 - 0:27 I love that part. I interprete that like Caleb trying to protect the inocence of his little brother from the violence in that village 1:03 AND I LOVE TOO THE FIRST CLON'S DEATH

This really does paint Belos in a different light. He genuinely loved his brother and likely endured a lot of misery to try and find him on the Isles, only to learn his Brother had seemingly betrayed everything they'd ever been told. A lot more compelling then just old guy from the 1600s hates witches because.
Thank you so much !! This is how I see him personally. I think we got small hints to that but the show hasn’t explicitly shown it (yet ?). Like we saw him looking distressed when Gus forced him to re live those memories, there was the part where he said it hurt every time grimwalkers chose to “betray” him. The fact it’s implied he kept Caleb’s coat in mint condition for centuries, and the mask Caleb made for him seemed to be his most prized possession. I think anyone saying he never loved Caleb is just in denial
The safe route doesn't even really make sense, the Pilgrims and Puritans didn't hate magic, they actually thought magic was an aspect of everyday life and only considered witches those who used this supposed magic with ill intent
Why are you NOT a official TOH animator??? If you made this alone then GOD DAMN YOU ARE SKILLED and you made it after the season 3 episode came out so you're also fast as hell because this must have taken so much work!! The style is almost identical to TOH's and the backgrounds, effects and shading is just absolutely amazing. You're honestly what I want to become as an animator one day.
I love that Evelyn looks so similar to Eda and her family hinting that Caleb is one of their grandparents or something and that's why Eda has the door (I know she found it but the reason it was so close to where she lived could have had to do with it)
Fan made stuff that’s so high quality like this makes me wish we got to see a full flashback episode of the Wittebros. I like how here we see a bit more of the human side of Philip in a way that shows he’s not just strictly evil. He starts off scared and impressionable with his older brother whose all he has, tries to “rescue” his brother and over time becomes more and more demented due to his beliefs that ultimately lead him to committing his awful actions. I’ve watched this a handful of times in the past few days it’s just that good, I love the backstory for the two and how it ultimately led and connects to the main plot. If it wasn’t the obvious enough I really love this animation, great work!

This looks scarily like the show. I love how absolutely perfect it is for the show, the way Philip’s eyes get brighter blue as the clip goes on is amazing, and the way Caleb’s hair noodle moves. ASJDLIDKADIF it’s so good
Part of me pity’s Belos. In the end, all he originally wanted was his brother. He blamed the which’s for taking him, which caused his mindset to become twisted. We know he wanted his brother back because of the existence of the golden guard. I’m curious if he believes all his actions to stop witches, was worth it in the end.

the fact that you did an at least 5 person job: storyboarding, character design, backgrounds, editing and animating (there’s probably more im missing out) but that’s impressive beyond comprehension you are god. all hail thee, bringer of the BEST owl house content, hail thee, the doer of the unthinkable, hail thee, master of smooth ass animation all your pain and effort will NEVER go to waste because i have absolute certainty that our fandom will cherish this masterpiece
I know they ran out of time and I would never bash that masterpiece of a show, but I would have loved to see Belos flash back a few times to get some more context on his life. It really sucks that the show was cancelled before it could dish out a proper ending and flush out all its characters. Both heroic and evil ones.
This was so good!! You captured the style of the show darn well. So much love, care, and time was put into this and it shows for sure, you did an excellent job!! The way you told the story piece by piece and framed it all together was pretty well done, and in a way that was both shocking and so fitting to the entire tale.
It's sooo cool seeing their story animated since we probably never will! I gotta say the wittebane backstory is one of the saddest, but most interesting stories in the owl house

This is actually incredible. The artstyle is not only spot on, but with the scenes and colourisation. The fact that this was done in only 20 days shocks me, you've done a splendid job!
This is just a masterpiece. For a fanmade animation, it's just crazy. The graphics, the global style, the movements, the details, even the characters are really near to how they are in the official show !! Plus the animation fits perfectly to the original audio ! It's just incredible and worth the waiting. All my congratulations, really !

Apparently when Caleb fell in love with the witch and went to the different world. It appears to deeply upset Philip, not only that he left him to another world, but he broken their promise and went against everything they stand for. Therefore causing Philip to kill Caleb out of anger, abandonment, broken promise, and betrayal.....
Impressive animation skills and creative way of using the dialogue from the premiere of season 3. It's amazing that your art work looks almost exactly like the show's. I think it would've been awesome if you had kept the last line: "Sounds like big bro got a witch girlfriend and little bro got upset." I would've been hilarious but the video was still amazing. Phillip looks so innocent oml- I hope that towards the end he finally comes to his senses and realizes how much pain and suffering he caused, and dies with that guilt. I kinda don't want him as a villian that gets a redemption, like Andreas from Amphibia, but I also want a realization period for him right before he dies, just to make his death seem like the right amount of pain for this villian. There is a difference between dying and thinking you're right in everything you did and dying right after realizing you're kind of an ass

One of the 2 things I love about this show is the Magic system, (Especially the palismen) and the Witch hunter theme that’s in the story. I love Belos as a villain and Hunters character growth
Belos had kill his brother I remember what he said to hunter at the beginning of hunting palisman "our family is gone because of wild magic" I think was he referring to his brother was gone because of evelyn's teachings about magic and fell in love with the latter. Reason his obsession to bring his brother back by creating grimwalkers and killing them if they dare to oppose him until hunter was made. Belos had to keep hunter in line by making up stories about his family was killed by wild magic so he will keep hunter from rebelling like the same way as previous grimwalkers does.
I've been following your process for the whole time! I'm so impressed with how it came out. It looks amazing! I hope the Owl House team sees this ♥️ thank you for providing for the lack of Wittebane content

I think that when Philip found Caleb, his brother had changed so much that he assumed he was “corrupted” by Evelyn and couldn’t be saved, and saw death as a sort of mercy for his brother. The Grimwalkers were his way of trying to bring his brother back as he knew him, and he killed them when they showed signs of the same “corruption” as Caleb did. If things had been different, whether it was Caleb being more open with his brother about Evelyn or the hostility the Boiling Isles had for him, he never would have become Belos
@@stargazer3003The only reason the isles were even hostile towards him (that we see) is that he constantly brings people to die and buy him a little more time to reach the collector disc. The isles as a location are hostile towards everyone who live there, and unlike Luz who learned to live with and understand them, belos just didn't.

Just wanna highlight some things as I think a lot of people are not realizing how impressive this is. One person made this whole thing minus the audio. It may seem short, but a lot of things went into this one minute.
-Characters and backgrounds drawn AND animated on model and in the show style.
-Moving shots, and characters turning(which I know if I tried to draw that I’d have trouble with)
-Fully detailed backgrounds(they look beautiful BTW)
-coloring and shading(again matching the show closely, the glowing effects on the portal and Belos’s eyes are also very cool. How did you get it to look so good?)
-understanding motion and being able to draw to make it look so smooth.I mean try watching at a lower speed just to see how many different drawings were made for some of the frames. You can see why animation takes time. Some of my favorite shots in this are the “became witch hunters” for the zoom out and transition from kid Philp to adult. That feels like a real shot from the show(minus the noose maybe. Doubt that they’d get away with that. Caleb turning, seeing Evelyn and Philp squishing his face, Philp getting chased by bees, Belos cutting his ears, are some of favorite shots.
Honestly thought this video was legit. The quality is insane and done in 20 days by one person!

Across Fandoms I've never quite seen someone stay so true to the original artstyle as you have, great animation. Also the freedom to add in darker imagery personally elevates this above the show so kudos.
Really? Meanwhile on my end I've yet to see anyone stray AWAY from the art style. Even my own commissions I've been paid to do the person always says to "copy the style please"

Irony. Philip is the most cruel and inhuman character in the series, but it was his story that touched people's hearts and inspired them to creativity.

Tbf, the show wasn’t given proper time to go deeper, and along with the fact Dana ended up hating Belos for how vile the writing for him was, the show ended up summing up his story as “who cares? He’s just a jerk lol,” leaving a lot to think about beyond that because of our imaginations and interests.

I just realized how meaningful it is when Phillip huddles in the cave during the winter. It makes a nice Call Back to when Caleb lent his jacket. Not only does it show why that jacket is meaningful, but also expresses how lost and helpless Phillip feels without his brother.
Which was probably one of the reasons why he came to hate whiches and warlocks. Not just because of the witch hunter village he was influenced by, but also because he felt his brother was drifting away from him because he fell in love with a witch. After killing his brother, he felt like the world of witches ruined his life, so he dedicated his life to ruining the world of witches. It's ironic how when he became Blos, he shaped witch society to what he always viewed them as.

His brother basically hunted innocent people who were so called witches and built that prejudice into his young brother in the attempt to help them fit in. Realized he was wrong when he met a hot witch and fell in love. Left his brother behind. I think his brother has some guilt there

Yeah ! I wanted to bring more nuance than “one was born good one was born evil”. I think it’s more complicated than that, and I tried my best to showcase how witch hunting was pretty much considered normal for people back then, and Caleb changed his mind because Evelyn slowly introduced him to a better way and most likely gave him a tour of the isles and such
Probably Caleb only was a witch hunter for the money that he and Philip needed to survive. Unlike his brother, he did not become a fanatic and kept an open mind, so when Evelyn appeared Caleb was able to quickly become attached to her. Even in Belos' own memories, it is seen that he was reunited with his brother when he had already become that mud monster. In those memories, it is seen that Caleb received his brother with open arms despite his condition.
OH MY GOD. Everything looks EXACTLY like the show (even if they can’t get away with showing a hanging, this short benefits from the darker tone. It’s literally jncensoring their past-so it should show the horror of where they came from.)
Stunned as I am by the visuals, this is also brilliant storytelling! The parallels between kid Philip’s mask, and how he wore it while witch hunting, then used that as inspiration for his Emperor look- *because he used his role as emperor to plot the largest witch hunt ever.*

This really does paint Belos in a different light. He genuinely loved his brother and likely endured a lot of misery to try and find him on the Isles, only to learn his Brother had seemingly betrayed everything they'd ever been told.
A lot more compelling then just old guy from the 1600s hates witches because.
Thank you so much !! This is how I see him personally. I think we got small hints to that but the show hasn’t explicitly shown it (yet ?). Like we saw him looking distressed when Gus forced him to re live those memories, there was the part where he said it hurt every time grimwalkers chose to “betray” him. The fact it’s implied he kept Caleb’s coat in mint condition for centuries, and the mask Caleb made for him seemed to be his most prized possession. I think anyone saying he never loved Caleb is just in denial

If you made this alone then GOD DAMN YOU ARE SKILLED and you made it after the season 3 episode came out so you're also fast as hell because this must have taken so much work!! The style is almost identical to TOH's and the backgrounds, effects and shading is just absolutely amazing. You're honestly what I want to become as an animator one day.
I love that Evelyn looks so similar to Eda and her family hinting that Caleb is one of their grandparents or something and that's why Eda has the door (I know she found it but the reason it was so close to where she lived could have had to do with it)

Fan made stuff that’s so high quality like this makes me wish we got to see a full flashback episode of the Wittebros. I like how here we see a bit more of the human side of Philip in a way that shows he’s not just strictly evil. He starts off scared and impressionable with his older brother whose all he has, tries to “rescue” his brother and over time becomes more and more demented due to his beliefs that ultimately lead him to committing his awful actions. I’ve watched this a handful of times in the past few days it’s just that good, I love the backstory for the two and how it ultimately led and connects to the main plot. If it wasn’t the obvious enough I really love this animation, great work!

I know they ran out of time and I would never bash that masterpiece of a show, but I would have loved to see Belos flash back a few times to get some more context on his life. It really sucks that the show was cancelled before it could dish out a proper ending and flush out all its characters. Both heroic and evil ones.

Apparently when Caleb fell in love with the witch and went to the different world. It appears to deeply upset Philip, not only that he left him to another world, but he broken their promise and went against everything they stand for. Therefore causing Philip to kill Caleb out of anger, abandonment, broken promise, and betrayal.....
And now philip living in his own delusions by playing the hero as the witch hunter and stray from the rest of mankind even he cost his humanity.

I hope that towards the end he finally comes to his senses and realizes how much pain and suffering he caused, and dies with that guilt. I kinda don't want him as a villian that gets a redemption, like Andreas from Amphibia, but I also want a realization period for him right before he dies, just to make his death seem like the right amount of pain for this villian. There is a difference between dying and thinking you're right in everything you did and dying right after realizing you're kind of an ass

Belos had kill his brother I remember what he said to hunter at the beginning of hunting palisman "our family is gone because of wild magic" I think was he referring to his brother was gone because of evelyn's teachings about magic and fell in love with the latter.
Reason his obsession to bring his brother back by creating grimwalkers and killing them if they dare to oppose him until hunter was made.
Belos had to keep hunter in line by making up stories about his family was killed by wild magic so he will keep hunter from rebelling like the same way as previous grimwalkers does.
