Thank you, Father Terrance. This is so helpful. I always pray but sometimes I don't hear an answer. I like to weigh the pros and cons as well. I must read St. Ignatius's works. He sounds very wise.
This was just for me! I've been asking God, what do you want me to do with myself (now that kids are grown)? That is a very broad question, like I expect God to take over. I realized while listening that when I have asked God specific, detailed questions or prayers, that is when I usually get an answer and realize it is God answering me (along with pondering His word or good teaching). Also I figured it was a little selfish to expect God to help with decisions, that I need to tough it out sometimes. Terrance explained that God doesn't want us to go it alone and wants to help us along. I feel overwhelmed with options sometimes. So now I am encouraged to ask for specific guidance about particular things and wait for consolations.
Everyone’s called. Like everyone has a cell phone. It’s almost people are - waiting - to be called. Paul’s Damascus conversion was much tougher and blinding than Mathews was. Maybe Mathew had part thrill seeker about him too - that his tax collecting job wasn’t offering. I do believe - each day - were called - to do something. We’re servants, after all.
