Just incase you guys were wondering, we work on lots more than ball handling. I have just been putting out lots of ball handling videos because that's what EVERYONE was asking for. If you have a request, let me know. If you are following on Instagram, you will see in the future videos of passing, help defense, moving without the ball, etc. Please check out the video on instagram about on ball defense and read the caption. I think it can help players out big time, provided that you work towards it.
Hey dev can you make me get better with my basketball skills and I want to wrokout with you and tj and you are the best train I seen that wroks so hard and keep up the good wrok hit me up @ 2145454681

These drills are gold thanks for putting it out for free cuz it's def. worth paying for. Love the 10,000 hour series too! Hope your channel keeps growing keep it up!
hey dev just wanna say your vids are really great and inspiring. I've been watching tour vids and got motivated to get up and go work. I've been doing your drills for 5 days and i can feel my handle getting smoother after each rep after each drill.... some skill shooting vids would be nice like off the dribble shooting, pullups, step backs, pick and roll shooting etc. love your vids man keep em coming
Hey all. If you aren't at this point yet or are even at square one, here's what I believe will help you. Step one in developing handles is being able to dribble, in general. Grab a ball, check for proper inflation by dropping it from your waist or so and letting it bounce back. Let out or pump in more or less air as necessary. After that, start dribbling with both hands. Remember to use your finger pads in a comfortable grip. Develop your ability to dribble to the point where running whilst dribbling and making quick cuts is easy. If you can do this, I believe you are ready to begin learning to handle the ball. Perhaps the most basic of all semi-advanced ball handling moves is the crossover. To perform the crossover, get low and jab in one direftion, either left or right and at the same time, using your finger pads, push the ball viciously to the other hand. The trick to this comes with time and practice. Like all ball handling moves, there's a rhythm and it just takes time to learn this rhythm. After learning the crossover, one should progress to the between the legs dribble. Part one in learning to do this is to do ball circles. Take your balk and using your fingertips, get comfortable making both clockwise and counterclockwise circles around your thighs, knees, and ankles, on both sides of your body. Then, process to making figure 8's, going front and back. The tricky thing about this dribble, is getting the footwork down. It will come with time but remember to stay on the balls of your feet, as you pass the ball through your legs. Finally, to develop basic handles one should know the behind the back dribble. Assume a low stance, close distance between your fingers and perform a crossover, without moving, behind your back. When you can do all these moves at a decent pace, stationary, you're ready to start doing them while moving. That's where this video picks up. Sorry for making this so long, and good luck!
Honestly I love how in this video, you have Tommy in it and showing him struggle. Plus this is the first time you have player that's not as good (at least in the ball handling department) than others. No disrespect to him just your showing the different types of players and the different skill sets they have. Like I said, no dire spect to anyone and thanks for the video, just thought id let you know what I thought.
Man I love this! Great to see Matty too. Anywho to my real point but the more I watch the more I understand tempo and footwork. It's crazy but I feel like that's been helping my handling alot this past week. I'm far from good but I'm working on it.thats for the vid
The drills are impressive. I would like to see more kids learn how to study game film. Its seen as the most boring part of training yet it's the most important aspect of winning. Learning how to disrupt the teams game plan is crucial to success.
What I would love to see is a detailed video on how to shoot threes. I can make my mid-range, but either miss short on threes, or completely off the side. I tried more power to the legs, the sweep and sway, nothing really works for me. Is upper body strength important? Should I work my arms' strength?
+teddy thodo +teddy thodo imo when it comes to threes having a proper release is more important. the error cost is higher when youre farther away from the basket.
That's my problem i have a robotic type of dribbling and i can do any 2 ball handling drills but when i do moves with it, i can't do it smoothly. I know it comes over time, but do you have any suggestions or drills to be a smoother ball handler ? Thanks
I love your stuff man! .. I don't really like other guys workouts videos because they do a lot of stuff that has NOTHING to do with in game situations. But I see you and I share the same philosophy with things. Keep it up homie!
Yes I noticed that too. I believe its because he has been in a streeball environment since his youth. Children subliminally copy the body movements through mimicking, of those around them. That's why I believe Trevor and Mello's handles are partially the way they are.
Hey Devin: I've practiced dribbling for a while. I think I have the same problem just like Matt@@ I'm robotic while dribbling the ball. Though u said dat style can't teach but i want to be smooth!!!! Any tips@@?
What is the in & out to you specifically? I thought it was dribbling the ball with your hand moving in a circular motion. But the way Devin does it, it looks like a hard pound dribble then you bring the ball slightly to the right or left and drive. The way Matty does it is the way I described (the circular motion).
The in and out is a loose term there is many ways to do it. But in all variations it is faking a crossover and bringing it back to the same side. The first way is the circular motion, bringing the hand over the ball is spinning it all in one dribble. The second is two dribbles, one in and one out. I think a third one could be possibly turning your body a little bit to the left if you have it in your right hand, pound it as if you're going to change to the left side and just bring it back to the right side and drive.
Hey Devin, do you ever do a slow break down of the body mechanics for each move? I find yoga-like break downs to be super valuable. For example showing where your left toe is in relation to your right shoulder for part of the move and where your weight should be distributed...etc.
i think hes saying that although matty can do any move , he doesnt have the smoothness in motion about his moves that may help sell them. the swagger. when he does the moves he does them rather stiff and deliberately
Bro, i need help on reading the defender. Can you put up a video on what move to do in certain situations. I know it a hard vid to do but its a challenge.
I go to a trainer who's a lot like you, except he's old and has bigger classes. And less involved individually. Keep doing what you're doing. You're doing it right.
I don't know if you do this kinda stuff with your players, but can you put up a video of athletic training like sand dunes, lifting, or my personal favorite cone drill without a ball and maybe in sand. I have found out too late how you can become a better basketball player by being a better athlete, and I would love to see more of that kinda stuff.
I know he has but I have only seen it in two videos, episode 1 and the one where Kyle came back from college. I just would really like to see more of it.
This is great handles improved after I done this .. It just seems I can't work hard enough without someone pushing me. It sucks that I have not made the team due to size but I have skill.. Some coaches just need bigger people but less skill, Devon would help me out to achieve my dreams to become a star but it sucks u can't be in two places training I need help with my confidence game come to Miami please
Heart over height! If you're good enough, you will be selected. You live in Miami, there are plenty of coaches in that area. Even coaches that train proffessional players as well as the youth. Use the coachup app, stop making excuses! Your generation of ballers have No Excuses! Everything is made easier for you guys. You guys can meet whom ever, basketball is broken down to a science now, and yet still there are so many excuses.
O me either and I'm a girl...but I did make the team..I made it without a trainer..I work on my own ..I'm twice as better than my team mates who have trainers... if I can do it you can

It is a workout, they just do this before they do game-situation reps.
Got any good defensive drills or 2 point shooting drills or is it mainly ball handling that helps
These drills are gold thanks for putting it out for free cuz it's def. worth paying for. Love the 10,000 hour series too! Hope your channel keeps growing keep it up!

I love your stuff man! .. I don't really like other guys workouts videos because they do a lot of stuff that has NOTHING to do with in game situations. But I see you and I share the same philosophy with things. Keep it up homie!
Devin looks so smooth when he dribbles! I wondered if that's just his natural movements or if it's because of practice??? Lol
Yes I noticed that too. I believe its because he has been in a streeball environment since his youth. Children subliminally copy the body movements through mimicking, of those around them. That's why I believe Trevor and Mello's handles are partially the way they are.
In The Lab, you guys put out some of the best basketball instructional videos around! Props to you!
Can you do a full dribbling workout please :)? Help another PG out

Matt is vicious ball handler 👌
How long do you do your drills with a small group?
Still apply this to my game today🔥🤦🏾♂️
Hey Devin, do you ever do a slow break down of the body mechanics for each move? I find yoga-like break downs to be super valuable. For example showing where your left toe is in relation to your right shoulder for part of the move and where your weight should be distributed...etc.

Hey this can be a ball handling workout in of its own right?...not just a warmup?
Devin, how did you become so smooth when you dribble? Is there a way anyone can master at "Dancing with the ball" and not being stiff?
Bro, i need help on reading the defender. Can you put up a video on what move to do in certain situations. I know it a hard vid to do but its a challenge.
Oh and im quick as shit on the offensive end but i feel like a fat kid on defense. A "how to" on defense would be oh so nice.
Mattys so raw.
Thanks devin for the video me and my friends do this everyday before training
I go to a trainer who's a lot like you, except he's old and has bigger classes. And less involved individually. Keep doing what you're doing. You're doing it right.
