11 years after it's upload and I still respect this mans commentary - that looks like a real handful and just being able to string together a sentence under those circumstances....... is GODlike
I have a IAME Parilla Sudam but in 100cc version and i don't live in south america. Absolutley amazing, great noise, great smell, and it keeps up with the rotax's. Revs to 20,000 RPM
Guys this is great! I bought an old Arrow Kart with a Sonik tx and that thing is incredible. Got it super cheap since it didn't run and the parts are hard to find. YET make it run I did and got it out on the track for an absolute blast! If you are even remotely thinking about Karting especially TaG just do it. Buy a used Kart and take it to a good track. Worst case you will recover most of your money selling if you want but I doubt you won't.
This Iame Sudam is a great engine, It is similar to the Iame Leopard except it is direct drive and free of annoying electronic systems that fail often. We should all be racing this motor provided that it doesn't turn into another expensive tuner class like JICA was.
@3slotes Would have to spend quite a lot of time with it to gauge that. I'd naturally expect better than an ICA. We were revving it too high, so at 17500 you should get some decent hours out of it.
I tested one of those for iame here in the pnw in a restricted junior 2 class spec, that engine kicked ass. I walked the leapords up and down the track with that thing. And i was older and heaver than the other junior kids lol.
@3slotes Little correction, the Sudam has also been a strong part of "unlimited" style dirt oval in North America for many years now. With limited restraints concerning engine mods in the Unlimited All-stars (do a web serch for the UAS site) the UAS Sudam is getting around 45 to 50 HP with engine being hooked up to a jack shaft and a dry clutch. The bored out 131 Sudam is hitting 55 to 60 HP
Since this engine doesn’t have the balancer shaft, the vibrations cause chassis to crack. The guys in Brazil are looking to retire this engine because of that. Seems like they will do so by using the new IAME S125.
On higher horsepower direct drive karts, if the regulations allow it, drivers use hand operate front brakes (it offers far better balance when hand operated). With a BT82 though there is no need for front brakes at all.
@seroyer2 That's not the "worst".. I have a mate, who has had his old 100CC aircooled ICA engine all the way up just touching 21 000rpm. They really sound wicked!
how does the sudam compare to the current iame x30 engines, seems like the x30 is the one to get for go karting for Tag compliance, and x30 does not make it seem like we're missing out on any of the fun the sudam had to offer (maybe a bit more power?)
I'd take a Sudam any day of the week. You will always be restricted by what's available in terms of race compliance, but I am a simple man. I really dislike all the nonsence on TaG engines that add nothing for me.
hi. I recently moved to Brazil for work and there are alot of people running this engine down here. I'm new to karting and I'm currently using a friends crg chassis with a bt82. Would like to get my own chassis and run in direct drive. Is there a reason nobody runs direct drive with front brakes? Would it screw up the dynamics?
How do they avoid locking up the cylinder under braking as 2t engines typically don't survive engine braking long? So do they employ a clutch of some sort or just replace the jug every single race?
No shifting. Just a single gear ratio with a single chain and sprocket and a VERY high maintenence centrifugal slip clutch. The 5-speed and 6-speed shifter karts will blow their doors off. If you want to see one that is single speed that will eat this one's lunch, Check out Aixro-50....Only $5,000.00 USD per engine! IAME Parilla's have been in the USA for years.
Load of BS. At the WSK Final Cup at South Garda / Lonato, fast time in KZ2 (125cc shifter) was 46.57. Fast time in OK (125 cc non shifter direct drive with power valve) was 46.97. 0.4s is not "blowing the doors off". The non shifter karts handle a lot better through the corners, and generally have much more competitive fields. All the top shifter drivers were all top non sshifter drivers. There is really nothing to shifting once you learn it. It is still getting into the through the corners properly.
ha ha we use to bore them parilla engines out to 135 cc's back in 1976's and put two of them on a formula lay down kart and run 240 mph on the texas speed way, thay were fun street racing on a sprint kart,,we also used a stanless steel rotery valve plate instead of the usale stamped spring steel they had a bad habbit of rusting then wareing the seat out on the outer valve plate,we took all the high tec info with us when we left karting, because it was geting far to fast and dangerous,
IAME won't give me the engine cause I live in Europe. Been trying to get it for 3 years now. They just want you to keep buying and breaking clutches is all. That's driven me out.

I think I had full castor on that kart from racing at Rye House. With he grippier tyres it was probably a bit too much.
I love how we can hear the adrenaline in your voice :D totally awesome!

Hope this becomes popular here in the States seems like a great motor!

Boys, we ran them in the USA, on alcohol, on dirt ovals.....the first ones looked like tt-75s.....about 1996.

#9 Ronny Cox uses one for dirt oval racing in Monroe wa. USA
You can get 50hp out of it if you tune it up.
38hp from a 125cc? WTF dude.. that is nuts.
You should try the maxter sonik ,big grids in Asia ,I dre from the team who developed them !

How do they avoid locking up the cylinder under braking as 2t engines typically don't survive engine braking long? So do they employ a clutch of some sort or just replace the jug every single race?
