You can enter a rest in "hands-free" method (caps lock) if you play 3-notes cluster (3 notes half a step a part.)
Thought it was worth mentioning after I found this is in finale docs.

Thanks lot! I used to use Simple Entry Tool with a MIDI keyboard but this is much better especially for triplets and so forth!

Nice. Using a MIDI keyboard app on phone for fun. I have a big keyboard, but need to get MIDI cables for it.

Hi, after several years of using finale on windows I moved to a mac os system. I,m using only speedy entry, and i noticed that on mac keyboard shortcuts are different than on windows, and for me are very unconfortable. Is there a way to enable windows shortcuts for speedy entry on a mac? Especially speedy navigation with shift + arrow keys? In my opinion speedy commands on mac is completey mess. Thanks!

You can add a rest with caps lock activated. You have to play a three notes cluster, all a semitone apart, on your midi keyboard. !?!?

I do all of that without using music keyboard, only by using computer's keyboard and writing much faster by using speedy e. t. So easily I don't need a midi keyboard. I wrote big work this way.

Entering single note melodies works just fine with the computer keyboard. But if you enter a piano score with 8 to 10 notes on the same note value with only the computer keyboard it will take you about 10 times the time to enter it versus using a midi keyboards. The reason is, because the computer keyboard won't allow to enter several notes at the same time.

You can jump to the next bar and then make the tie:) I do that 🌺

Derik2 Nicolai Totally true, and you will even have to do it that way if you have checked "jump to next measure".

How do you know which notes you want without hearing them? You need to have a timeline like normal sound editing. How do you drag the time needle around whenever you want and click play instantly without stuffing around? Are you people aware of how primitive this system is compared to usual video and audio timecoding?

    • @Abraxas47
      @Abraxas47 8 ปีที่แล้ว

He had the volume turned down. In Finale, you hear the notes as they are put in to the score. The time needle is replaced by measure numbers in Finale. To start playback in the measure you want, you simply type the measure in and Finale will start from there. This is one of the entry modes, not playback mode.
The timecoding is really not necessary in software that is designed purely for composing and arranging music. Are you aware of how complicated this software actually is, and what it's used for?

The solution I found was Logic Pro, which contains a simple drag and drop MIDI EDITOR. It is so much easier to use. The mouse controls are almost completely intuitive (unlike most Apple software, which is usually a nightmare).

Zxenmusic yes, but logic pro is a different type of software. it's used for mixing and editing.
Finale is software specifically for composers to create sheet music. That's the whole purpose of it, and it does that well. It's not designed to create a piece of studio- produced electronic music. If you're not looking to write sheet music for musicians to perform from, this software is probably not what you're looking for.

Logic Pro easily converts Midi Editing rectangles into perfectly written sheet music.
In fact, I can choose to write it as sheet music in Logic Pro as well. Plus it has more instruments to choose from so I can hear it back instantly. When looking at software, its all about the interface. Finale fails.

Your point of view on this is that of a six year old saying there's no point to a Michelin star restaurant because Mumma makes good nommies. There's a difference in the two things.

yeah it's kinda rediculous. but look into making presets in tg tools, its a very useful plugin.
