I just noticed only now.. that he's not saying this to Hearst directly, he's talking watching Sol in the eyes, that's why he's also saying "his mouth" and "he's afraid", meaning that Seth is snaping his usual rage but take the precaution to acting like he's not adressing his words directly to one of the most dangerous man in camp. Love this detail.
Absolutely. He understands the character and he presents it in a way that allows the viewer to see inside of him. We all have some degree of rage, so we can all relate.

I mean look at EB Farnum or Doc Cochran or Jane or even Wu or Tolliver. Their characters are so much richer and colorful. The only glimpse of any depth we see from Bullock is when he talks about going to see his brother on the battlefield, having been restrained by charlie utter cleverly by utter acting injured, from marching into the gem to get his gun and badge

Bullock is amazing, that intensivity. In Justified his Raylan role is similar in terms of charm but he's a lot more chill and cool all the way thru. Love what he does, waiting on the Deadwood movie.

I think a big part of it that he is afraid. When he talks about his brother it's all admiration for the heroic soldier. I think part of his anger is how afraid he is, the rage just overrides it

I always liked that part of his way to depict anger and rage as well....that happens with lots of people when they're at the highest levels of anger and you don't see many actors do it.
I've never watched a single episode of Big Bang Theory, while my friends refer to it often. Meanwhile I used to get butterflies in my stomach waiting the few minutes prior to each episode of Deadwood and later of Justified, especially the opening beat of that Gangstagrass theme music - Long Hard Times To Come.
He just protects beautiful anger and passion. Look how close to tears he becomes when he knows he could easily turn. Man he would of been a great Batman.
That 1875 Remington he carries is truly a police weapon of the time. It has that steel rib under the barrel which looks like a black powder Remington's loading lever, but it's static, which helps the rigidity of the barrel so if you need to buffalo someone (Hit them over the head with the gun) it won't harm the weapon so much.

Ricky Jay, quite probably the best sleight-of-hand card sharp slash magician alive in the world today. He's literally staggering with the way he handles cards, like the perfect three card monte man. I'm told the decision to make him a croupier (craps involving dice, not cards) was a deliberate gag for anybody who was remotely aware of his fame.

They didnt cancel it. The guy who wrote it wouldnt commit to another season because he wanted to go and write that pile of shit show john from cincinatti. HBO was paying to rent that entire town for the deadwood set. They weren't going to pay for it if he was going to play coy on if he was even going to keep making the show or not.
@@doc-holliday- Nah, you got it all wrong, HBO wanted David Milch to do John From Cincinnati, which yes was a piece of shit, so they offered him 6 episodes, which he decided wasn't enough to finish the story. And I think it was a good thing, rarely if ever does a show get better or even keep that status quo of quality even after the second season. And endings of shows are rarely if ever satisfying. 3 seasons was perfect, and the movie was enough to satisfy most fans, although I was disappointed, as it did not have the level of quality of the show due to Milch having alzheimers, not being allowed to micromanage and do on the spot rewrites, and the time constraints they didn't have during the show. But the great thing about the movie is that it shows you just how good Milch was at Deadwood. There will never be anything like it again, the absolute best show that has or will ever exist

I loved his arc in Season 1 where he finally becomes sheriff after seeing all the horrible shit that was happening throughout Deadwood; a father trying to pin a murder on their daughter, Chinese stabbed in the street while the 'Sheriff' looks on, Bill Hickock shot in the back without provocation, the coward that killed him getting off the hook etc. after a point he couldn't just stand by and be a normal guy running a hardware store, the beating at 2:34 is cathartic because he embraces who he really is.
Tough guy, but history says he never killed anyone...that was odd of a peacekeeper in the old west and it drew in the dumbasses who didn’t realize there was a reason he never needed to kill anyone.

I went over to a friend's place where they were all watching Sopranos, which was the first time I saw it, was a great episode where Tony was running from the FBI through a snowy creek. Then Deadwood came on, and the only scene I remembered is one of the best, When Al is getting a blowjob and doing a crazy monologue. When he stopped to say "what do you have a stagecoach to catch, slow the fuck up!" we all were rolling. That was one of the most vulgar yet hilarious lines ever.

One of the writers said that Bullock is the kind of guy who wakes up every day and fantasizes about beating up his father. That pent up rage came out anytime Bullock had to act as a lawman.

Bullock is thr kind of man that expects the best out of himself and never does anything half-assed. It shows all the way to how sharp he dresses. I love at one point in this movie Al asks him something like "Bullock, you ever think about not just going straight at a thing?" Bullock immediately says "No." He's a master of confrontation and not one bit afraid to act on what he believes is right.
"What business of that is his?!" "You mean what business of mine is that?" Such a great little exchange. People misspeak in real life all the time. Nice to see it in a script every once in a while. And of course, the cherry on top: "Don't tell me what the fuck I mean!"
Olyphant had an intensity as this character I’ve never seen anywhere else. I would actually find myself saying out loud, “uh oh. Seth’s gonna be pissed off”. Really glad he wasn’t my dad.
7:50 this right here might be my favorite moment for Big Dan Doherty. It shows more brains in him than you'd expect. The biggest mistake anyone can make in Deadwood is underestimating ANYONE living there.
You know that scene in like EVERY TV show where the villain just stands and does something evil out in broad daylight and for whatever reason, the law can't do anything about it? So the villain gets a soliloquy and to talk down the hero and flaunt his invincibility? I'm pretty sure Seth Bullock exists just to punch that meme in the mouth.

The real Seth Bullock apparently was one super tough dude, definitely one of the few guys in the old west to avoid pissing off.

I watched Deadwood after Justified, and it was so damn hard watching the whole season without seeing him go all Raylan Givens on the bad guys.
One of, if not the best characters of Deadwood. Gonna go back and re-watch them all again.

I love at one point in this movie Al asks him something like "Bullock, you ever think about not just going straight at a thing?"
Bullock immediately says "No."
He's a master of confrontation and not one bit afraid to act on what he believes is right.
Ricky Jay's "Gentlemen, watch the felt" is the absolute best part of Bullock beating the hell out of Garrett's father.
Timothy Olyphant is def one of my favorite actors. I can't decide which is the best character he's played out of Seth Bullock and Raylan Givens
both great roles .

Olyphant had an intensity as this character I’ve never seen anywhere else. I would actually find myself saying out loud, “uh oh. Seth’s gonna be pissed off”. Really glad he wasn’t my dad.
7:50 this right here might be my favorite moment for Big Dan Doherty. It shows more brains in him than you'd expect. The biggest mistake anyone can make in Deadwood is underestimating ANYONE living there.

You know that scene in like EVERY TV show where the villain just stands and does something evil out in broad daylight and for whatever reason, the law can't do anything about it? So the villain gets a soliloquy and to talk down the hero and flaunt his invincibility?

I'll never forget Deadwood. Best line in Ep 1: Liquor and p*ssy is half-price. ( or something along those lines. I loved his relationship with Alma Garrett. Al Swearingen's philosophy on life was on point: Life is just a series of unpleasant events ( or something along those lines).
