At bare minimum they need to get thinner. The current F1 cars are closing in something like 1.5 meters (5ish ft). Maybe you can force them down to 1.2 meters or so. Thin out the width to allow for passing. Because I get the feeling the current aero rules will eventually have the teams getting even wider to compensate for the lack of effects off the cars. Idk of you could shorten the cars, but you should be able to thin them down. Maybe you would if you took the NASCAR fueling approach and mandated a limit on fuel cell size giving a stop to refuel, but that's honestly dumb.
@@blueredlover1060 I've heard that they're targeting a smaller and lighter car for 2026, and allowing refueling would help with that goal. with the portier cove completed, there's a great room for grandstands close this new turn. Is the most obvious necessity change they never tryed to see. And, a great TV spot, around this garden, like a second Lowes
For Monaco only, F1 should do something similar to the Formula E Head to Head knockout quali with 1 lap qualifying tyres. It'd be kinda like one shot but bigger chances for upsets through the field - even backmarkers in FE sometimes got to the front row for a shock result. It'd also reduce the differences between each competing driver too
on layout changes, there are definately places where the track can be widened. the pavements that are there could also easily be sunk in to the ground flush with the road surface in a lot of places allowing the track to extend further (such as the ENTIRE uphill section, downhill hairpin, and a few other places) . it may result in some lower traction parts around the edges where the asphalt becomes smooth brick, but if drivers can drop a wheel on the grass in a quick move they can do it there too. in terms of the rest of the track, id honestly like to see a return to the original layout (or closer to it at least) in some places. if you want a longer straight, go back to pre-addition of the pool section. out of the chicane after the tunnel, then a massive sweeping corner all the way to a hairpin on to the start-finish straight, alternatively you move the start-finish on to that long sweeping corner and then you give an incentive for ridiculous moves on that chicane, which would also let you change the layout on the old start-finish straight to bring back some more corners and remove the akwardness of T1.
what i think they should do is remove the nub on the beginning of the uphill and let the drivers speed up even more for some more action on the section before the 180
Honestly Tommo, I'm really impressed with your suggestion #2, changing the quali format. What you suggested sounds genuinely very exciting and something I could see teams and drivers genuinely supporting if it were seriously suggested.
I believe someone made a video about changes and extending the track just before the last two corners. So turn left at rascasse and include more of the dock on that side, eventually coming back through a tunnel to end up at the start finish straight with more speed as well...
I know The Race mocked something up a while back. It's quite a drastic change, that won't add much in a way of overtaking opportunities IMO. But you never know!
That track change would be worse. The new hairpin would be a heavy traction zone which seperates the cars. It would be the same as the old abu dhabi turns 5,6 and 7
Your vid popped up in my suggestion feed, first time I’ve watched your stuff. I agree with your critique of the broadcasting constraints and the ACM. Your suggestion for qualifying session sounds like it would keep drivers, spectators and the sponsors happy. General feedback: The visual style you’ve got with the transitions looks smart.
There are some problems with one shot qualifying. track evolution and weather. Your argument is that the conditions is already different in the normal qualifying format, but I think that’s different. If people go out too late or too early because weather changes, it’s something the team could’ve prevented and there is strategy needed to counter for example rain after a dry start. If you do one-shot qualifying, it’s all luck when you start a session and when you go out on track in good conditions. If it has rained before the qualifying session, it would mean that Latifi would go even further in the back and the gaps between the first place and second place will get bigger aswell. This would make qualifying not fun too watch and it will cause a lot of controversy. The best solution for fixing that is to make drivers go on track and drive their only lap very close behind the other cars, but in Monaco there is no room for that. You know, both versions of qualifying aren’t perfect, but if I had to choose which one I would go for, I would choose the normal system. Even though it will be dangerously busy on track, the session is more about strategy and skill, instead of skill and luck
monaco grand prix was perfect few decades ago. they slowed down the track for security reasons. now we have improved security and now we have miami and jeddah, whitch are fast street circuit, we can get back to "old monaco".
Tommo, I like these videos so much more than your pre/post race videos because there's no chat to drag you down. I find myself having a good chuckle so much more often during these types of videos. Keep up the entertainment and don't let the turkeys drag you down!
All good points, F1 could VERY eaisly incoperate erything except the chicane change (still do-able tho) but all other points added up would make a much more interesting race with little effort on the organiser's behalf! Yet another God Tier video from Tommo, we love to see it!
Your qualifying ideas are great tommo love it, you should take a look at Australian v8 super cars top 10 shoot out qualifying, something like that would be unreal at Monaco
Hey Tommo I’m part of the Monaco enjoyers and was relieved when they announced the new deal. I really like your ideas (especially the quali) and hope the ACM and F1 will watch this video. Let’s hope for a long future to come for this iconic GP
This video has so much yes. If they did all of this, Monaco wouldn't lose its prestige, its mojo or anything else. It would just be moving on with time and making changes for the better. ACM, please listen to this man!
I added my comment before the ending of the video, I do love the changes you’ve made, Perhaps the roundabout change and my suggested restructure of the harbour so we can have a proper overtaking opportunity with plenty of space to make a move and less collision risk
Any "circuit" that you have to make up special rules for, or fundamentally change, just to make watchable is no longer somewhere that a series should still be racing at. Either change the whole layout, or bin it for a new (older) track.
They actually do that one-shot qualifying in the Australian V8 Supercars racing series. It's called the top 10 shootout and is the second biggest event apart from the race.
I binge watched your videos recently and I still can't believe that you put my channel in the mystery link, thank you sooo muchh!! luv the video btw :)
I actually really enjoy these ideas. This would make the race a lot more fun, adding more driver challenge to this and in the end, making a better product! Well done!
The minimum 2 stop is such a good idea. Personally I think they should just remove the nouvelle chicane, widen the "straight" by removing some grandstands, to encourage overtaking. Idk if it'll be a safety concern but I reckon the racing will be better. Also maybe removing swimming pool exit chicane and make it more straight , but idk if they can do that
this is an excellent video. i was certain that i was gonna be trolled into watching a video about changing the cars or changing the course (which you still did - but). but instead you hit the nail in the head. the future of monaco really relies on how much the ACM is willing to give up, and how much Liberty can make people believe that they would ditch Monaco. And your changes on Qualifying. also agree. It is absolutely fine to have 1 weekend a year where Qualifying is the main spectacle. That is not a bad thing. The track changes are also good suggestions. Not such a fan of the pit stop change though.
Actually, the split qualifying is not just an Indy 500 thing. Given how many cars are in Indycar races, they actually do split qualifying at every race and then the final 6 do a shootout for the top positions. Very exciting stuff.
Love the quali idea, that would be absolutely EPIC! Also, Nouvelle chicane/roundabout combo, that would probably do it. Always loved Monaco on an F1 game, it is really fun from a drivers perspective (plus it's a game so of course there are some crazy overtakes) but IRL it's just a procession.
Tommo what an incredible qualifiying idea!! Ive been vouching for a top 10 one shot qualy at Monaco for years, but this idea is even better!! They do a top 10 shootout every year for the Bathurst 1000, the biggest motor race here in Aus, and it's one of the highlights of the season. Man vs Track at the ultimate drivers track. If they did this at Monaco it would be one of the highlights of the entire season.
This would literally fix Monaco. I don't think mandating a 2 stop would be something the teams would be happy with so can't see it happening. The track modifications are definitely a good idea,.and I would love to see one-shot qualifying around Monaco.
@@TommoMcCluskey must be 😂. I definitely agree about moving the Nouvelle chicane down some or HEAR ME OUT, maybe just get rid of it completely and considerably sharpen Tabac corner to create a hard breaking zone and a great overtaking opportunity with a DRS zone from the tunnel exit all the way down the marina to Tabac. I also agree with 2 mandatory pit stops. Great vid m8!
I do think now they have got the safety standards of the car, they are finding ways to make the cars smaller again and that's a major issue with the track. I agree to changing bits on the track but we need to get these cars smaller and focus on compacting the package.
I like your top 12 shootout idea. I'm from Australia and this shootout idea is what we use for our biggest race in Australia called the Bathurst 1000. the top 10 shootout is crazy to watch and I think the shootout idea would be brilliant for f1.
Regardless of changes to qualifying, I like the changes to the track you mention. Regardless of changes to the track, I like the changes to qualifying you mention.
Oh hey i did a video on this earlier this year and we came up with exactly the same solutions, i had one more, you can widen the entry to rascasse by like 3 metres, which would give drivers an even bigger chance there.
Bin off the swimming pool section and the chicane after the tunnel. Straight blast from Tabac to La Rascase. Even better, revert back to the track as shown in the film Grand Prix. 45 second per lap but it worked in Bahrain
V8 Supercars in Australia have done a top 10 shootout at Bathurst for years now and that would work an absolute treat at Monaco. Normal q1 & q2 and then run a top 10 shootout...each car gets one lap only, no other cars on track and no second chances.
Love your Qualy ideas, but I'd go one further. Make the entire weekend a Qualy tournament, with brackets. Award full points. Just fast cars ripping through the old town, 100% at the limit. Also regarding qualy fairness, Indy 500 has a format.
I feel like some sort of quali format akin to the MotoGP qualifying could work in Monaco. Split the quali groups using aggregate time of the FP sessions, then the top 2 in Q1 could progress into Q2. It limits cars on track whilst also encouraging the drivers in Q1 to push for Q2. That could work no?
Great ideas tommo. Quaily format would be cool. Move the chicane also would be great. Id like to see them open up floor designs and make the cars smaller. Like 85% of the current size. The point of ground effect is to create the downforce from the floor so we have less aero wash, so let the teams develop better floors!
Your idea (add the roundabout + moving the nouvelle chicane) is great. I believe the chicane could be moved way more ahead. There is a lot of space behind it for safety...
Great ideas, I love Monaco but the racing has evolved to the point that the track limits the machinery. Your suggestions regarding track changes and pit stops is brilliant.
If you look at the bigger picture of the entire City there is much more room to expand the track outside of the current track limits. The harbour section can be expanded, the upper section around the casino square can also be extended. They need to tweak the track layout to make the track longer.
1 lap shootout qualifying is awesome. I'd replace Q3 for a top 10 shootout... everywhere. I absolutely adore the all or nothing approach of 1 lap qualifying, and the fact you get to watch all laps... chef's kiss
Don't change away from Q1,2,3, just red flag any wrecks and mandate another chunk of time for final laps to be put in, kinda like NASCAR does green/white/checker to ensure the fans get show. This would means teams might need to refuel a bit if there's a couple of these red flag situations, but they will already be in the pit lane where refueling could be accomplished with a quick park in their garages. Love the suggestions on track layout changes, TV feed directing, and pit stop mandates.
I agree with 1 shot for monaco, but tbh I think just use the same system as we have now but replace Q3 with the one shot. Having the top 10 go in reverse order based on Q2 times.
with qualifying i'd say do it 50/50 based on the standings in the WDC. Builds up the tension as the fastest drivers are later. There will have to be a long enough break so that the track is not warmer for the better drivers to make it easier for them
monaco is know for its own television " tele monte carlo", in 90s they were broadcasting all races from all categories without any ad. they're passionnate of television as much as race cars. but few years ago tele monte carlo has been sold to a big company and is not located in monaco anymore. however, they still have talents and experience of producing race events.
One thing I feel that would bring back some hype to Monaco is a mandatory throwback livery doesn’t matter if the team has been around for ages like Ferrari or are newer like Haas all they have to do is work with the sponsors and choose an era of cars other than cars post 2010 and make a cool livery for the race as a one off
in 1 shot qualy, could send them out in reverse championship table order, with the leader going out last. makes being ahead in points pay dividends by giving a slight track evolution advantage.
I mostly agree but I think with the chicane it needs to be made wider as well. It just seems too tight to really be a proper overtaking spot, if they were going to create new harbour to move it down then make enough room so it can also have more space going through the chicane for overtakes, maybe don’t have a barrier right on the inside so cars can slightly jump over the kerbs
Put tommo in charge of Liberty Media, there have been changes to the track before so changes now aren’t as morally egregious, one shot quali does take away the drivers ability to go out whenever (ex 2019 Charles was eliminated bc Ferrari made a mistake, but with one shot then he’d be out bc they pulled the short straw), race direction has messed up in the past so F1 taking over is fine.
Idea 5: For a long time, the Monaco GP was 100 laps long, so maybe we can extend the distace, if we're already making special rules for Monaco (Maybe we could call it the Monaco 100) Idea 6: Make Monaco a night race, so there's 1 night race in Europe as well.

in terms of the rest of the track, id honestly like to see a return to the original layout (or closer to it at least) in some places. if you want a longer straight, go back to pre-addition of the pool section. out of the chicane after the tunnel, then a massive sweeping corner all the way to a hairpin on to the start-finish straight, alternatively you move the start-finish on to that long sweeping corner and then you give an incentive for ridiculous moves on that chicane, which would also let you change the layout on the old start-finish straight to bring back some more corners and remove the akwardness of T1.
the best part of the day is when Tommo uploads
True
Too kind
get a life😅
Pretty pathetic you’re day must be
what i think they should do is remove the nub on the beginning of the uphill and let the drivers speed up even more for some more action on the section before the 180
Sounds great one-shot qualifying and 2 pitstop rule - track changes might be great if practical.
Honestly Tommo, I'm really impressed with your suggestion #2, changing the quali format.
What you suggested sounds genuinely very exciting and something I could see teams and drivers genuinely supporting if it were seriously suggested.
Cheers Scott!
I kinda like your quali format
My concern with splitting the grid is that in wet conditions or similar, the track will be different for each batch
Cool video with some interesting ideas although I think chain bear also made a video and also suggested some changes that I'd prefer tbh
Exactly. Fair is what it is now.
He addressed it on 7:09
Nice work mate. Agree with all of your points 👍🏻
just sat down with my dinner. Good timing Tommo!
same! we got lamb and some caesar salad going!
What you having?

@@TommoMcCluskey I could lie and say something elaborate but honestly im having noodles haha
@@mikey380sx I’m having the same!
I think Monaco should be the one race a year that we put all the drivers into identical go karts and let them go at it.
F1 really do need a Top 10 Shootout System Like Supercars (AUS) Would be such a great Spectacle
monaco grand prix was perfect few decades ago. they slowed down the track for security reasons. now we have improved security and now we have miami and jeddah, whitch are fast street circuit, we can get back to "old monaco".
“This is not a video game, its real life”
This sir earned as a first time viewer my absolute respect.
I love your track redesigns, please do more of them!❤
Do you think we can have everyone race in lawnmowers on sunday instead? 😂
Quali on lawnmowers would be dope
Or go karts i always wanted this
Tommo, I like these videos so much more than your pre/post race videos because there's no chat to drag you down. I find myself having a good chuckle so much more often during these types of videos. Keep up the entertainment and don't let the turkeys drag you down!
Amazing vid, Tommo. Enjoyable editing too. Keep going, buddy!
Thank you John!
All good points, F1 could VERY eaisly incoperate erything except the chicane change (still do-able tho) but all other points added up would make a much more interesting race with little effort on the organiser's behalf! Yet another God Tier video from Tommo, we love to see it!
Your qualifying ideas are great tommo love it, you should take a look at Australian v8 super cars top 10 shoot out qualifying,
something like that would be unreal at Monaco
Agree, also can extend the track at Rascasse along the dock to create another hairpin and eliminate the headaches around spinning/pitting there
Hey Tommo
I’m part of the Monaco enjoyers and was relieved when they announced the new deal.
I think I have heard some kind of joker lap too, that would be also nice to see alongside with your modifications!
I added my comment before the ending of the video, I do love the changes you’ve made, Perhaps the roundabout change and my suggested restructure of the harbour so we can have a proper overtaking opportunity with plenty of space to make a move and less collision risk
1:44 hey, that's when my birthday is! I remember hearing out the news about the 24-races calendar a month ago.
I actually fully agree with an F1 TH-camr. Wtf. Great video man!
Any "circuit" that you have to make up special rules for, or fundamentally change, just to make watchable is no longer somewhere that a series should still be racing at. Either change the whole layout, or bin it for a new (older) track.
Bingo!
Really enjoyed that video, good use of the maps. Johnny Harris would approve.
Cheers Andy!
Ok, you have me. This quali idea is literally perfect. Slight track adjustments good too.
They actually do that one-shot qualifying in the Australian V8 Supercars racing series. It's called the top 10 shootout and is the second biggest event apart from the race.
Good video, mate. Hard to argue against your points, the way you've presented them
I binge watched your videos recently and I still can't believe that you put my channel in the mystery link, thank you sooo muchh!! luv the video btw :)
Love your work Tommo, keep it up
Cheers Alex!
Great ideas Tommo, i'm in to it!! especially de qualifying idea!!
Also maybe removing swimming pool exit chicane and make it more straight , but idk if they can do that
Gimmick. How about the option of refueling!
this is an excellent video. i was certain that i was gonna be trolled into watching a video about changing the cars or changing the course (which you still did - but).
but instead you hit the nail in the head. the future of monaco really relies on how much the ACM is willing to give up, and how much Liberty can make people believe that they would ditch Monaco.
I like your track changes for sure!
Randomly woke up to pee (wee) at 3:58a.m. and bam! New vid before I go back to sleep. Thx Tommo!
Your bladder knows good content Eddie
@@TommoMcCluskey must be 😂. I definitely agree about moving the Nouvelle chicane down some or HEAR ME OUT, maybe just get rid of it completely and considerably sharpen Tabac corner to create a hard breaking zone and a great overtaking opportunity with a DRS zone from the tunnel exit all the way down the marina to Tabac. I also agree with 2 mandatory pit stops. Great vid m8!
I like the idea of 2 mandated stop through all races then we can have tyres that they can push on
Bar the qualifying format which doesn’t need changing i agree with all your point. And i also really like your video production ❤
I do think now they have got the safety standards of the car, they are finding ways to make the cars smaller again and that's a major issue with the track. I agree to changing bits on the track but we need to get these cars smaller and focus on compacting the package.
absolute banger of a vid tommo
Spot on!!! Love qualifying format. No brainer
They should add a joker lap(s), that adds in more strategy and intrigue.
Genius Tommo‼️ Seems simple enough even without the track changes. 👍👍🏁
I absolutely agree with this. It would be so good to watch each driver. It would be tense. Make the sport more fun interesting
If you look at the bigger picture of the entire City there is much more room to expand the track outside of the current track limits. The harbour section can be expanded, the upper section around the casino square can also be extended. They need to tweak the track layout to make the track longer.
1 lap shootout qualifying is awesome.
I'd replace Q3 for a top 10 shootout... everywhere. I absolutely adore the all or nothing approach of 1 lap qualifying, and the fact you get to watch all laps... chef's kiss
to whoever has made your thumbnail, it is excellent and really pulled me to this video
Cheers Dave!
Maybe qualifying where each driver gets a chance to have the track to themselves with one out lap and one flying lap.
Agree with Quali! Sounds like a good idea. Like the track changes too. Cars need to be smaller as well though.
I agree with 1 shot for monaco, but tbh I think just use the same system as we have now but replace Q3 with the one shot. Having the top 10 go in reverse order based on Q2 times.
Yes, yes, yes and yes. Solid video Tommo.
with qualifying i'd say do it 50/50 based on the standings in the WDC.
Idea 5: For a long time, the Monaco GP was 100 laps long, so maybe we can extend the distace, if we're already making special rules for Monaco (Maybe we could call it the Monaco 100)
Idea 6: Make Monaco a night race, so there's 1 night race in Europe as well.
Monaco is actually short in terms of track length, in F1, a race has to be 305km long, but Monaco is 260km, so it can definitely extend.
@@truehunger108 monaco government would say nuh-uh
@@Dabuilder1 makes sense, if they did 305km the race would be 100 laps long.
