Let's give a round of applause for Charles Leclerc, he literally travelled back in time with his car to showcase us the evolution of the Monaco circuit
To anyone who thinks Monaco is boring: Take a moment and put yourself in the driver's seat. Here's how a lap around Monaco goes: You're doing close to 300kph at the fastest parts of the circuit, at all times, you have millimetres between you and a race-ending Armco barrier, the elevation changes put you into blind corners frequently, you have barely five seconds to adjust and readjust your eyes in the tunnel and all the time, you're pushing like anything for the best lap possible around Monaco. Daunted much? Good, now try doing all that for another 77 laps.
Ok but none of us claim to be F1 drivers. Your POV of people who call Monaco boring is entirely wrong. We call it boring because of the snoozefest races it produces. Not because of the challenges the drivers have to go through. Get that inside your head.
@@tmane.7848 I totally understand why people call it boring and to all intents and purposes it mostly is. But very few circuits come close to the challenges and the spectacle that Monaco provides. No margin for error and the place where the biggest stars shine brightest.
My friend nobody say the track is boring but the races are because there's ZERO action if drivers are clean (No SC) and no rain or weather changes during the race. That's it. It is why Monaco is the only weekend where we value Quali more than ever.
well Monaco is surely fun to drive in sims and for the drivers, basically you are milimeters from hitting the wall all the time. but it clearly made a snoozefest for us who watch the race.
Still the biggest yawn ever in motorsport! Only on the F1 calendar because of the hype. F1 to Monaco is just an inconvenient car race around a millionaire’s playground. Full of fake celebs
Me and family are attending Monaco randomly since 1963. Impressive how details depict exactly how the track was and is. Especially banner ads. I felt be Senna in his Toleman. Thanks buddy, great editing.
I really hate Anthony Noghes curve. That should be as the old days, wider. It would extend the track to those daring a pass on La Rascasse curve, to keep place or the other driver to try to protect himself from the outside. Or even create a new opportunity. Of course Monaco is more for the driver than for the spectator, but drivers behind would also like another chance to grab positions. That being said, great video! I really enjoyed it, it looks so beautiful!
Monaco is probably due a major facelift - it usually gets one on average of every 20 years or so. But people need to realise it’s not about the number of overtakes in a race. Today’s kids have been spoilt with DRS overtaking - Monaco has been notorious for presenting other challenges, and teams/drivers need to adapt to it. A safety car, had pit strategy or a sleight error can be costly.
Little note: up to 1973, the old railway bridge was still there at the Portier. In 1974 it was removed (you'll see no shadow in that point) and then, since 1975, the new street bridge was made.
First piscine chicane was actually widened slightly in the 2010s so speeds were slightly increased. It used to be hard to go full throttle before that but then it got pretty easy
It does have a lot of history and I can imagine it’s a lot of fun to drive around. It’s just not a good track to race around. At least not with today’s cars.
In my opinion, the nouvelle chicane should be redesigned so as to create an actual overtaking spot because now the first turn is narrow as hell and the apexes are just so square-ish (?) Maybe there could be a little addition to the track just before tunnel straight, I dunno I don't want this precious gem to be so boring every year so someone should do sth :/
It's still an accomplishment to drive around Monaco in the modern days, but the port chicane was fucking insane back in the day. A fast left right sweeper coming out of the tunnel at full speed with 0 safety measures whatsoever. One mistake and you're either in wall at the end of the tunnel or in the mediterrane sea.
At the 77 race, we were about two feet behind the armco at the hairpin exit. Tire shreds fell on our heads like snow. Best of all, it was free. We ran along the seawall rocks to the tunnel and into the basement of a high rise at the hairpin. The gendarmes threw rocks at us!
6:50 - Really i hate the building right at the exit of the tunnel... It's 13 odd Years or something since it was built, it didn't add anything to the track. But it reduced the king shot by a lot from the open sea when the cars fly out the tunnel to the chicane. Man i hate everybody involved in that decision to built a fucking house right there.
Well for an update on this video then, the race at monaco this year in the 2024 season was the first time in over 1100 races that the top 10 drivers finished the race in the same order they started in… so still think it’s worth it being on the calendar when ever the drivers were complaining how boring the race was?
Sorry to ask but where is the difference (where are the changes) between the first (until 1954) and second variation (from 1955). I cant recognize it. Haha. Also the variation until 2014 and the current one is just slightly different from a few curbs, or did I miss something?
"monaco is so boring we should remove it from the calendar" Okay, now how would you feel if I said we should remove Silverstone? Spa, maybe? Exactly. Keep historic races on the calendar.
The track needs to be changed to accommodate the larger cars racing on it. Otherwise, it's just too slow and tight for modern F1. I'd love for it to stay on the calendar. I have a love-hate relationship with Monaco. But no matter how much I want it there, I have to admit it's just not a good fit for F1 anymore. Some clever changes could fix it enough, I think, but with an area that small, surely they'd have to sacrifice some kind of feature to make it work. And they may not be willing to do that. Is what it is.
Monaco is not my favorite track but I like it. I do not blame who hate it because this track is rough, boring and hard, a real shame that Monaco hauts the F1 players still today
Id say you destroyed your lap in seconds of the clip starting -if youd hit those 150mm upright kerb stones be they 1929 or even the 1969 ones you would of certainly broken the wheel/punctured and more than likely broken the suspension!
The only modification this track needs, IMO, is just being wiped out of the F1 calendar. As a videogame player, it makes for excellent go-kart races, and that's it. As a spectator, it's boring as hell. There, I said it.
Obviously at the time when the section was a thing, Nobody would be going that type of speed but if it was now then yeah some deadly crashes could happen if things go wrong..
The layout is sucks and boring. I found it since the very first time I saw that race on TV - 1972 - Jean-Pierre Beltoise won under a pooring rain - his only victory in F1 - and last won of BRM

The real race in Monaco always is celebrated on Saturdays.
And with these wider cars is even more harder to overtake here.
It's not the problem how wide those cars are. The biggest number one problem is that F1 cars now are almost 6 meter long!

In my opinion, the nouvelle chicane should be redesigned so as to create an actual overtaking spot because now the first turn is narrow as hell and the apexes are just so square-ish (?)
