Thanks a lot for this video - the Pro version is definitely more clear and has no this bassy low-end I did not really like in BY-M1. Kudos for spending your time to compare these two and providing us all with the information.
This comment makes me confused about which should i pick for recording my old accoustic guitar. I think M1 and M1 Pro will produce a very different output. Do u have any suggestion for me? Thanks in advance!
I have several really expensive lav mics, but the one I use all the time is the Boya. It works with everything, sounds good with my voice, and when the Saigon environment kills it, it's cheap to replace. I have 3 I use regularly and 1 new-in-the-box spare. Haven't tried the Pro yet, but will for sure. Good Show
The Boya BYM1 Pro sounds slightly sharper/crisper than the Boya BYM1. My personal preference with your voice is the Boya BYM1 Pro, but to tell you the truth they both sound absolutely fabulous for the price. Anyway, thanks to this great comparison review video I have just purchased the Boya BYM1 Pro. Thank you...
Fair enough! there is a lot of value in either one, and I just bought another BYM1 as mine got killed by the wheels on my chair and ripped out the switch box, and the new version seems a little more like the pro now so there is even less between them, although the non pro to me still sounds more open
Good video! Nice little piece of kit. New one is definitely clearer! The old one is slightly more muffled. Glad you're enjoying your new Mic, let's hope Kath doesn't replace her Mike after that comment ;) haha
To me the none pro sounds better actually, the pro seems to have a slight base to it. Allough not to much of a difference tbh. Although they both very similar. didnt like it at all at -10 even boosted I didnt really like. Thats just me persobally good overview
yeah i think i agree with your points there. the non pro seems to have a deeper tone to it but it does also pick up more "noise" and the -10db is probably good in a louder place, but when i added gain to normalise is the sound wasn't very good at all. But that is probably we using it out of context really.
Yeah, I thought I mentioned that, I was ment to say that when you went quite I couldnt hear anything so that is better than the standard. For 4 quid extra might aswell buy it. And yeah, i think the minus 10 isnt ment to e used with camera pre amps, its really ment for a proper sound recorder and not a camera just a assumption anyway lol
Vast difference between the two! M1 has a big high end roll off but is better at -10. The pro is more present but with a lot less low end, It does however leave mid range a little exposed. Bur for less than 20 quid they are pretty good.
In my opinion, Pro is better. In the non-pro one, the sound seems to be mixed with something like "vvv.." or 50Hz hum noise, hard to tell by words. I think the Pro one has a different circuit and filtering, so the difference is not just adding a -10dB switch ... etc. To replicate the experiment, you should use a brand hands-free and listen to your voice, do not use a speaker. I used my original Samsung cellphone's hands-free. if I had time, I will examine your voice on the oscilloscope and FFT function to check the spectrum and bandwidth. My conclusion is that the sound from the Pro one is more clear. You can try.
thanks for the point of view, i personally think the non pro sounds more bass heavy and more like i think i actually sound the pro seems compressed but if you can run it through some hardware i would be interested to know more
Thanks for the review, I have the BYM1 and will stick with it, I much prefer the sound of it compared against the Pro model. The BYM1 does pop a bit on the F and S words which can be countered by reducing the gain. The BYM1 sounds like it has more body and range, the BYM1 Pro sounds a bit thin and compressed to me.
I’m listening here on an iPad Pro with Audio-Technica ATH-M50 cans. Although they’re both clearly picking up the sound of the PC fans in the background, the noise floor is really very good for both mics IMHO. But if I were to choose, the clear winner would be the BYM1 Pro simply because of the extended upper frequency response. If you wanted this mic to sound like the original, just rolling off the top end and boosting bass frequencies would give a similar sound. Of course this would be impossible doing this the other way around, as you’d simply end up boosting the noise floor which is what you want to avoid.
@@mikesunboxing After watching your review, as well as a couple of others, I went and ordered one today. £20 is a 'no-brainer' as they say! Worth having a look at the Behringer B-5 mic (another cheapie for a mic of its kind) as well as this essentially is an overhead drum mic, but can be also used as an overhead vlogging mic as the cardioid pattern cuts out wall reflections from behind, so you don't need to acoustically treat your room as much. It does however need 48v powering. A bargain nevertheless.
Excellent review! May I ask if the mic can be connected as it is (with no additional splitters or adapters) with my MacBook Pro and iMac computers? Both devices have only a single headset port (not a mic port). Thanks a lot!

Thank you for the video! I have used the classic model for a year, mostly outdoors. Happy with the long cord. Now however, I connected it to my PC laptop to make a Screen recording with Game bar (built in to windows 10) and suddenly the sound is extremely bad. I don´t know if it is the mic that is broken, or if the computer makes it bad, or if the Game bar program. Do you have any thoughts?
Listening with headphones i can apreciate why you prefer the classic m1, it seems to have a boost on low and mid frequencies and a bit of more volume. Finally the sound is warmer and feels closer. The problem for me is that i need this type of microphone to do zoom calls on Android and i think the only way it could work is with that jack port that comes with the pro. Any suggestion? Thanks, great video
I think it would be useful if you match the volume levels in post. When i bring down the volume a little, on the parts in the original one, the pro feels fuller
The pro really feels like theres a low-mid frequency that's missing. it's virtually crisper on the high end but honestly i think a healthy channel eq tweaking on the original one can improve it a lot, while I'm not sure how the pro's hollowness can be fixed.
Very nice review Mike! Thank you for making the review.. i personally like the original (NonPRO) but i wonder if I were gonna record on instrument :\ which one would be better do you think?

Hey Mike. I'm looking for a mic to use for Vlogging . Product unboxing and small video stuffs. Most of them will be indoor. Sometimes outdoor too. Which one would you suggest
I actually prefer the classic ver than the Pro, mainly because of that extra bass. I have high voice, with the Pro I'd probably sound like a child. Thanks for the vid
Hello, Mike! I think de original version is better. To me it captures more low frequencies. If I could use a set of headphones for monitoring I'd choose the BY-M1 Pro. Thank you for the review!

Hi! I'm new to all this, editing audio, etc. I wanted to ask, what's the purpose of changing the settings of the mic, like using the -10db? Thank you! 😊
Hiii, I'm looking for a mic to use it in my online lessons. You mentioned it works in computers, but you said CERTAIN laptops. How can I know if mine will work? My computer is Acer Swift :)
I’m thinking of using the non pro microphone during our vows for our wedding which will be held outdoors. If I were to clip this on myself, do you think it will be able to pick up the audio of my fiancé? Or should I buy two of them and clip the second one on the officiator as a backup?
I might be too late in seeing this video but, I saw the BOYA BY-M1DM it has two mics that might help you better than two individual mics. But the overall advantage of two mics is that you can make individual changes to your voices.
I do hope you are still responding - after ordering the Pro for my female voice and the standard for a male friend I have just seen a video which states you cannot use the standard for zoom on a laptop as it reads as a headset not a mic - is this correct? It would mean a separate Bluetooth speaker would be required to hear the others in the meeting. Please reply - I trust you much more, your video is insightful and professional. Thank You 🙃
if you have the mic in the powered or camera mode rather than the off or mobile mode it should detect it as a standard TRS pole device (as in a single device) when the mic is in the off mode or phone mode it becomes TRRS mode (which combines mic and headphones top make a headset type setup) so that will make a difference and also if the device you are plugging into has a combo port (TRRS) then it might incorrectly recognise the mic if not setup properly BEFORE plugging it in. IF this happens then yes an external speaker device like a bluetooth speaker might be a good solution to overcome this. hope this helps?
probably the pro as you can filter out a little more of the background noise although the Discord noise reduction will also do that pretty well in software
Great review, great video. I live in a very hot place, so there's always a fan near (about 1 m from me). Thus, even if I only need it for live streams on laptop from my room, I've been searching for a good cost-benefit PS2 lavelier mic to reduce all that noise, since it seems the most adequate kind of mic to use in that situation and I don't have much money. The 6 m cable attracted me because of mobility, but the fact that it needs batteries is really annoying... I'm confused about why it would need that. Changing batteries sounds problematic and costy in the long run (pandemics is still strong where I live). Now I don't know if Boya BYM1 is the right mic for me... maybe is there any other recommendation?
the battery is only used when switched over i think? the batter on mine lasted for about 3 years - up to the point i snapped the cable. and i left the mic on overnight numerous times. depending on your streaming setup maybe take a look at the noise cancelling in software like nvidia studio and many others
Nice review and the first one I've seen that is UK rather than US based. I think.at the end the BY M1 sounded a bit louder but with more bass but as a consequence more boom. The Pro was quieter but had good speech clarity. Just as well as I placed an order for one during the video. 😂
thanks Mark, i agree there is a large difference in them i just wish the pro had a little more volume to it, the quality is nice and it does seem to eliminate a lot of the external factors, but with direct comparison it seems slightly more muted or muddy
Many people will be using these outside moving around too, rather than in a studio. It would be interesting to see how the two compare in a different environment.
@@mikesunboxing there's this buzzing sound that is muffling my voice, even though I'm not close to electrical appliances. I don't understand whats wrong!!?
I swap between the two but I have used the bym1 for about 4 years now and still maintain is was the best investment I made in the channel and for the £15 it cost and we have made around 1000 videos the cost per video is pretty good. And it still sounds as good today as it did when I got it

go for the original one in my opinion the sound seems louder and more detailed. If you are likely to be in an environment that has a lot of background noises the pro might suit better
can I put it straight into a camera as the box says or do I need a trrs - trs converter? for connecting to ZOOM H6 i can use the 3.5 - 6.3 adapter in the box to connect to the XLR/TRS input, I guess, although ZOOM says it needs a 2 ring TRS jack
@@mikesunboxing thanks for answering, I understand that part now. And about the TRS jack into the ZOOM H6 ? In package is a jack TS one ring, will that fit ?

Honestly an amazing review Mike! Could I use the Pro version on my iPhone for voice chat on Discord/Messenger etc.. while connecting a pair of normal wired earbuds in the headphone jack in the mic itself?
good question the earphone socket is for playback not monitoring so in theory it should work. I don't have a iphone with a 3.5mm jack or a lightning adaptor to convert it or i would try
I went to the store to buy the simple one, they didn't have it and I bought the pro for which I didn't know it existed. I haven't tried it yet but from the video I like the simple one better, the sound is more natural and warmer. I made a bad choice after all!
Nice mic Mike, say that when drunk !! Cables though, yuk, have you considered using a wireless Lavalier, I use the "SubZero Mini Digital Wireless Lavalier System" indoor and out, no wires dragging around and a lovely sound, slightly more expensive at around £59 but worth every penny?

I actually prefer the classic ver than the Pro, mainly because of that extra bass. I have high voice, with the Pro I'd probably sound like a child. Thanks for the vid
there does seem to be mixed opinions, but like you a prefer the more bassy sound from the original
Does bym1 has the noise reduction built in as well or this is specific to pro version?
it is really a DB cut not really noise reduction as such but i understand what you mean and it is just on this model
Hello, Mike! I think de original version is better. To me it captures more low frequencies.
If I could use a set of headphones for monitoring I'd choose the BY-M1 Pro.
Thank you for the review!
Fair enough!
If i connect earphone in boya m1 pro and play song in my smartphone ... can i hear song through my earphone which connect with boya m1 pro...please reply
yes that is correct
@@mikesunboxing thanks🙏
Can we do live monitoring through M1pro or it is playback monitoring
playback monitoring
Hi! I'm new to all this, editing audio, etc. I wanted to ask, what's the purpose of changing the settings of the mic, like using the -10db? Thank you! 😊
it reduces the sensitivity so it can remove background noise, hissing and rumbling
@@mikesunboxing oh I see! Thanks a bunch. 😀
Your test convinced me! Thank you ! For streaming, I definitely prefer BOYA BY-M1 :.) !
Glad I could help!
Hiii, I'm looking for a mic to use it in my online lessons. You mentioned it works in computers, but you said CERTAIN laptops. How can I know if mine will work? My computer is Acer Swift :)
As long as you have a mic jack on the laptop it should be fine
I’m thinking of using the non pro microphone during our vows for our wedding which will be held outdoors. If I were to clip this on myself, do you think it will be able to pick up the audio of my fiancé? Or should I buy two of them and clip the second one on the officiator as a backup?
buy two much safer , especially if you can't do extra takes ❤ Hope it all goes well
I might be too late in seeing this video but, I saw the BOYA BY-M1DM it has two mics that might help you better than two individual mics. But the overall advantage of two mics is that you can make individual changes to your voices.
@@subalsuchdev7321 Thanks we will take a look :-)
Hi Mike. Great review👍 Which one will you recommend for Discord ( Just going to use it to chat with my friends while I'm going to game ) ?
probably the pro as you can filter out a little more of the background noise although the Discord noise reduction will also do that pretty well in software
@@mikesunboxing Thanks, going to get the Pro👍
@@cricket4life249 Hope you like it :-)
Great review, great video.
@@markonmotoring yes and noted :-)
I bought the pro one but it seems to have alot of mic noise like humms and hisses how can i fix that
turn down the gain in camera, you should be around -9db
@@mikesunboxing I'm using a smartphone
@@mikesunboxing there's this buzzing sound that is muffling my voice, even though I'm not close to electrical appliances. I don't understand whats wrong!!?
What do you have the pro plugged into for audio?
lumix g80
very useful sir , thank u for sharing
thanks for watching
So Mike which one you decided in the end? What will you buy for yourself?
I swap between the two but I have used the bym1 for about 4 years now and still maintain is was the best investment I made in the channel and for the £15 it cost and we have made around 1000 videos the cost per video is pretty good. And it still sounds as good today as it did when I got it
mike can you help me? 1- I am hesitant between choosing a pro and normal model which one is better for narration and interview ?
2 - if i turn off -10db it work like normal m1?
3 pro version have headphone out put this option for get live sound work on dslr cameras which dont have headphone out put? or just work on smart phone
best regards
go for the original one in my opinion the sound seems louder and more detailed. If you are likely to be in an environment that has a lot of background noises the pro might suit better
can I put it straight into a camera as the box says or do I need a trrs - trs converter?
for connecting to ZOOM H6 i can use the 3.5 - 6.3 adapter in the box to connect to the XLR/TRS input, I guess, although ZOOM says it needs a 2 ring TRS jack
the adaptor is in the control box part, that switches between the two modes
@@mikesunboxing thanks for answering, I understand that part now. And about the TRS jack into the ZOOM H6 ? In package is a jack TS one ring, will that fit ?
Sir, I'm planning to buy a mic for cooking channel, While recording I'll explain about the ingredients at the same time the cooking noise would be loud, for example frying sounds. For me M1 or M1 pro which is better? Thanks in advance
either is fine, the pro might be a little clearer in that setup
Does it really works on PC out of the box? Where do you plug it in actually?
into the mic port on the case or the rear io shield outputs
@@mikesunboxing Will it work properly? Did you test it out. I mean it's probably TRS. But the this microphone is TRRS. Not the same.
@@mikesunboxing Alright great! Love your videos man. Honestly you're easily the most underrated youtuber out there.
Awesome review! An excellent comparison between the two microphones!
Glad you liked it! which one would you go for?
@@mikesunboxing I am going to buy the Pro version. Your review was of great help to me. Thank you, Mike!

Can I use this straight to the audio mixer with the cable for live stage performance?
i don't see why not. as long as there is an analogue input on the mixer or deck
@@mikesunboxing Thank you for the reply. I will buy one soon.
This video was really good! It reminds me of that really good video called Discord mods!

I would go with the bym1 personally
Thank you very much for kind support can you please also suggest any tripod
How can i know the fake vs original Boya products

Sir,Which one is better for singing covers for females??? M1 or M1 pro??
m1 pro is has less bass
Does anyone know wether the lapel clip on the non pro is removable too?
Yes it is
Which is better with phone? 🤔 Help md to choose
the original one
M1 or m1 pro? Because the difference is only 3.5 euro 💶

Which microphone is better for singing...?
for men the by-m1 or ladies or vocals with less BASS the pro

For singing purpose and doing covers.. Which is better... M1 or M1 pro?
if you are male with deep voice m1 female or higher pitch M1 pro
@@mikesunboxing Also i wish to record cajon covers with the help of it. So which is better?
@@nandanuds8604 the same applies. it doesn't matter what content or style it is, it is the artists voice profile. essentially though both will be good
@@mikesunboxing no i am asking not about vocal. When recording cajon beats only which is better?

Good choice :-)
Can we use this directly with Smart Phone Camera or we have to install 3rd party apps like Open Camera
you can use it directly with the camera app installed as default on any device
Thanks Mike
No problem
does this work on a laptop?
Should do if it has a 3.5mm jack
I went to the store to buy the simple one, they didn't have it and I bought the pro for which I didn't know it existed. I haven't tried it yet but from the video I like the simple one better, the sound is more natural and warmer. I made a bad choice after all!
it isn't bad, but the non pro is better in my experience
Boya m1+Pre PRO : I go with this.
Good choice :-)
I dont know but for a common watcher, the original sounds better to me. More base. It just pops more. No edit, you can just use it directly.
i am tempted to agree. the BYM1 is still my go to for daily recording and the pro is tucked away for emergencies or when recording two inputs
Does anyone know which one is most preferable for Kalimba recordings?
not sure sorry
Ευχαριστώ πολύ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Παρακαλώ
Do anybody have a PIXEL 3XL?
I've read that there was issue with lavalier. And Boya is clipping on it.
not here sorry
Hi Mike, which model will suit someone who speak like having a block nose?
The bym1 as it has more bass so will maybe take the higher frequencies out of it
the m1 pro is much better! Your voice comes out cleaner while the older version makes your voice muffled.
thanks for letting us know
The pro sounds better.
thanks for the comment
Nice mic Mike, say that when drunk !! Cables though, yuk, have you considered using a wireless Lavalier, I use the "SubZero Mini Digital Wireless Lavalier System" indoor and out, no wires dragging around and a lovely sound, slightly more expensive at around £59 but worth every penny?
Thanks Gary, I will look into it.

Can i use boya m1 pro while using bluetooth earbuds?
yes as long as they are in headphone mode not headset mode as that will try and use the bluetooth mic
Is anybody know if there is a difference in sound quality between the
BOYA 3.5mm jack
BOYA 3.5mm jack
+ 3.5mm to USB-C adaptor

Not that I know of the only difference would be any system created interference from the USB or audio chipsets used on the device it is being connected to
