I work at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant that builds the Silverado 1500, there is over 25,000 trucks in float (non sellable) that we know about. The reason for not being built could be anything, the real problem is animals destroying them, mostly wiring because the coating is made from soybean oil.

      1. That is correct info on GM. We are a contractor that does work for them and this has been a huge issue.
      2. Yes this is correct about the soybean based “rubber”. This you can thank the government because it’s a green product that not only is cheaper to make but doesn’t include petroleum products. They did once out a chemical in the soybean based insulation but again government agencies said it was toxic and could possibly cause cancer says California so now I’m assuming this part but it doesn’t have that in there anymore.

Sitting uncrunk, all gaskets probably going bad including A/C. When I went to buy my first new car after HS, went to local Chevy dealer that a 2 year old brand new car, but had been sitting. Tried my best to talk him off the full price as it was NO longer a brand new car. LOL He wouldn't budge so I went elsewhere. I couldn't see paying full price for a 2 year old car...my opinion.

    • @TheManKnownAsJR
      @TheManKnownAsJR 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Guess you didn't want the truck that bad. You have to understand how manufacturers differ from one another. Ford and Dodge mass produce, so they have to sell-sell-sell even if it means skimping and dropping prices; they make a good average product anyone can afford. GM concentrates more on durability, comfort and customer retention; though you pay more. It is no surprise that GM roadside service is the best of the North American manufacturers; by a long shot, I know, did all of them's roadside. GM knows their numbers to laser precision and only produce what they know will sell and what they build sells; if anything is missing one year, wait until next year's model, coming out soon. If a manufacturer makes it out alive this next crisis, GM will... because they don't produce like crazy.
They charge more, so they don't have to sell as many vehicles; easier on everyone, including mechanics. This is why GM vehicles retain their values for longer, warranty service is top notch; you're not always going to the dealer - though I would say pick and chose. Almost 5 years and my truck is still worth almost what I paid for it; appraisal says so. GM also often invests in schools and getting more kids in the mechanical trade. I'd say if you really want a Chevy vehicle, give them another chance.
He'll sell that vehicle, I am surely not worried. In this day in age, if you want a certain vehicle and you want it, buy it. Don't discuss price tags because the one who will buy it, won't. If there is no mileage and it's 2020's model, it's still brand new. Such a big deal...

@@TheManKnownAsJR i call BS on everything but the roadside service comments. How would you explain almost 100'000 gm products currently sitting in storage awaiting parts? Gm and chevy lots across north America being completely bare. I know for a fact that the wait times between the big 3 are comparable. It also seems that, in my shopping circle anyways (300 miles) everyone seems to be short on new trucks on the lot. But curiously, gm seems to be short on vehicles period.
I'm not a fan boy of any brand, admittedly perfer Ford currently but I've owned them all. They all make very comparable products, and it basically boils down to brand preference and your local dealer. The last time I was in my local dodge dealership, the sales manager rudely ran me out for asking them to remove my contact info after shopping there. Ive also had issues in the past with their service department. My local gm dealer is full of crooks and scam artists. My last experience was not so good with their service department and breaking a component during an oil change then letting me drive away only to cause more expensive damage and ultimately refuse any responsibility. (Had a maintenance package on my wife's vehicle, an ac component beside the oil filter was damaged and caused a compressor failure. They were the only one to ever worked on the vehicle because I had already pre paid for service and it was under warranty)
The people at both Ford dealerships are awesome. Its the main reason I choose to do business with Ford over the competition.

Congratulations on the new pup. He looks like a very cool dog. Regarding the trucks… anyone who gets one of those and then tries to claim it a garage kept vehicle will be kidding themselves. It wasn’t unusual for trucks (and cars) to sit a week or two at the assembly plants before shipping out to dealers but manufacturers of all the major brands have vehicles sitting 5, 6, 8 months now days due to the chip shortage and supply chain issues. That’s a lot of sun, acid rain and water damage on a yet to be purchased vehicle. Only solution I can think of is bringing chip manufacturing back to the U.S., but I don’t see the political will on either side of the aisle to make that happen. In the meantime, we the People keep getting the shaft. Sad state of affairs…

Feel the same way about Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain CO just south of Colorado Springs. Some big name in racing bought it then virtually shut it down. Took the stands and moved them to Phoenix, I think.
They parked a bunch of the diesel VW's in the unused parking lots. When they took the cars away, you could see where each vehicle had been parked due to color differences. I was flying over the race track after the cars had been removed.
I watched the drilling process at the goldmine in Victor CO. Interesting process. They did the shot in the evening and it was interesting to see the area the next day. We used to race (CHCA) at the mine.

I have no idea how many vehicle are there but I'm sure it is the thousands. In a few weeks they will come and get them and the lots will be empty for a few weeks and then they fill them back up. We saw the lots full a year ago then they were empty in July. So this must be the second time they’ve filled it up. Might be the same trucks as the first time though as I had heard that mice had gotten to the wiring and destroyed it the first time around. Not sure if that was an urban legend or fact.

Great video Mike!, first of all its ashame they shut the speedway down I've been there it's a great facility!.
If all the manufactures would start making everything back in the US we wouldnt have this problem!.
This is the reason I will never buy a new truck ever again from any manufacture there is to much electronic crap on all new vehicles!, we dont need all this crap!, if you cant use a road atlas with out talking on your phone and watching a TV screen you shouldn't be driving period!. I could go on for a while but I wont!, that's why I'm driving my 1967 ford f250 hi-boy, no sensors or warning lights, just a heater and a radio!.

Thanks for this...it's sickening! I ordered an F350 King Ranch last November and just got an email last week it's scheduled for production. I told them I no longer wanted it. Pretty sure once demand lowers as the economy worsens, I'll do better than the $80k they wanted to charge...for a pickup!!

I know several people that put deposits down on vehicles they ordered, only to have the price raised by the dealer when the vehicle finally came in. Most were like you and just passed on the deal. One guy I know who needed a new truck for work said they raised the price by $7k. When he questioned it he was told flat out take it or leave. The salesman said they were only going to get 10 of those trucks in over the next year and they had several other buyers lined up who want the truck and are willing to pay the price. He took the deal in the end.

@@steveniemyer9288 Thanks for sharing, so sad. I have heard of several people that had the same thing done to them & they were priced out of a car, even with a deposit. Basically the dealer is putting you on a list & then auctioning each vehicle to the highest bidder. Some insurance companies are refusing to insure or capping what they will cover & if your bank wants to risk the rest with you, then it's their risk.
