    I was an aircraft director in the Navy.. That low deep hum on engine startup was boner enhancing.. You could feel that shit in your chest and it felt amazing.. Couple that with the smell of jet exhaust and I'm having flashbacks.. Thanks for the video and the memories..

    "No nonsense tutorial" - swaps FCS from left to right DDI to get up the checklist on the left one - I know this is the "right" way to do it as per NATOPS, but what's the point in it? To me, this actually is the most nonsense (or rather, the only) part of the whole startup procedure. Why not just put the list on the right DDI instead? Less work, practically same result.
    Nice shortcut startup guide though, thanks for making it, will probably help lots of people :)
    The true fun in using the AB on takeoff is that this is the only moment of your whole flight where you can actually hear that it's running... :D - at least that's what I can tell from watching all the videos, and I've seen [GR]Cap constantly not knowing he's in AB and Sherman telling him to cut it :D

    • @Jabbers
      @Jabbers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A few questions I have by the time I got to 5:45:
    1) I noticed your flaps switch was set to "HALF" but in the cold&dark quick mission the switch is set to "FULL"...what should it be set to? I think at 1:10 your was also set to "FULL" but at some point it was changed but you never said when you did it.
    2) Your FCS page had all the boxes cleared but mine has a bunch of "X"'s....should they be cleared before taxi?
    3) I still have a master caution lit....but you dont at this point...

    • @Jabbers

    Nice one, but you want to set the launch bar switch back to Up once it's trapped under the shuttle.

    • @Jabbers
      @Jabbers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are the 2nd person to note that, and you guys are probably right, I was reading the NATOPS and it wasnt clear to me
      2.10.4 Launch Bar System. The launch bar is hydraulically extended and retracted by redundant
      springs. A locking tab mechanically locks the launch bar in the up position. A two position (EXTEND
      and RETRACT) launch bar switch on the lower left corner of the main instrument panel controls
      launch bar operation. As the launch bar extends the green L BAR advisory light comes on. When the
      launch bar is fully extended it is held against the deck by deck load control springs. The control springs
      allow vertical movement of the launch bar during taxi. As the aircraft is taxied into the launch gear the
      launch bar drops over the shuttle and is held captive in the extended position as the shuttle is
      tensioned. On aircraft 161353 THRU 161715, when both throttles are advanced to or above MIL, a
      throttle switch is made, the green L BAR advisory light goes out and the launch bar switch returns to
      Figure 2-18. Emergency/Parking Brake Handle
      A1-F18AC-NFM-000
      I-2-68 ORIGINAL
      RETRACT
      I have not checked personally if this applies or not, so just left it down. Also, perhaps the bad things that should occur arent implemented yet.

    8:15 Your current gross weight is literally there on the checklist screen on your DDI, wtf do you need the rearming screen for?
    You also have your stab trim there, so you only need the checklist page to set up your trim.

    You have forget the fire test a and b after battery on.... after the first engine start the bleed air... and the fcs auto check by Aircraft after the second engine start.

    • @Jabbers
      @Jabbers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All 100% unnesary as of the launch. Bleed air only required if you do the fire test, so dont do the fire test and you can skip both steps.

    • @Jabbers

    The F18 is clearly a LOT more manoeuvrable than the SU25 T that most of us start this sim with. I am still mastering taking off and landing without destroying my tyres or just not crashing outright. But this looks like it will be more exciting once I have more experience :)

    • @Dinnye01
      @Dinnye01 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The actual trick is to be gentle with the aircraft. This jet can be a bit sluggish to take off and to land. For example, when you are at Vr, you need to excercise patience, and rotate only up to 8-10 degrees and then hold, regardless if it is taking off. Similarly, at landing, you need to be mindful of your weight and your speed. But the jet will reward you with an exceptionally forgiving AoA capability.

    Y'know this is so disappointing. Here I was ready to sing your praises for the quality of this video and then you have to go do something stupid and drift your damn plane on the runway...and NOT have eurobeat playing in the background. That's just amateur hour sir! You should be better than that.

      Ya I think the problem is I consider checklists nonsense in dcs, so my no nonsense means just that, bare minimum, where-as yours means the opposite

    While I respect your desire to focus on the game part and not the realism, you should choose your titles more carefully. Checklists do have a very important purpose and *are* sensible, what you propose to "save time" *are* by definition nonsense tutorials.
