- Egypt, a land of ancient wonders and modern marvels, boasts a rich history that spans over millennia. From the iconic pyramids of Giza to the vibrant chaos of Cairo, Egypt offers a tapestry of experiences for every traveler.
Pro Travel Tips:
1. Ubers are available everywhere and are the cheapest, safe, and most comfortable mode of transportation in entire Egypt.
2. Pyramids of the Giza: There is a ticket to enter the grounds and an additional ticket to enter the Pyramids. I decided to buy the add on ticket to go inside the Great Pyramid (#khufu Pyramid). I felt the extra money was not worth it. You can make your own call by looking at the insides of #khufu Pyramid in the video starting at 9 seconds.
3. Taxi inside Pyramid: Do Not Fall For Taxi Drivers Telling You That They Will Give You A Tour Of The Pyramids. Taxis only go till the parking lot and are not allowed in the grounds. I did see private cars drive inside but taxis are not allowed.
Best way to visit the Pyramids:
1. Enter the gate near the Great Pyramid, get a camel or a horse drawn carriage to tour the pyramids, get dropped off at the Great #sphinx and then exist from the gate near the #sphinx.
2. Total time is 2-4 hrs depending on your pace and number of travellers.
Top Must-Do Items in Egypt:
1. Explore the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx: Witness the awe-inspiring structures that have stood the test of time. Travel Tip:
2. Cruise the Nile River: Experience the heart of Egypt aboard a traditional felucca or a luxurious cruise ship.
Discover the Temples of Luxor: Step back in time as you wander through the majestic temples dedicated to gods and pharaohs.
3. Dive into the Red Sea: Explore the vibrant underwater world teeming with colorful marine life in destinations like Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab.
4. Experience the bustling markets: Immerse yourself in the sensory overload of Egyptian souks, haggling for spices, textiles, and souvenirs.
Top Things to Avoid in Egypt:
1. Street food without caution: While Egyptian cuisine is delicious, be wary of unhygienic street vendors to avoid stomach issues.
2. Overlooking cultural norms: Respect local customs, especially when visiting religious sites, and dress modestly.
3. Ignoring safety precautions: Be vigilant of scams, pickpockets, and traffic hazards, especially in crowded areas.
4. Disrespecting historical sites: Refrain from climbing on or touching ancient artifacts to preserve Egypt's cultural heritage.
5. Underestimating the heat: Egypt can get scorching hot, so stay hydrated and wear sunscreen to avoid heatstroke.
Hidden Gems/Lesser Known Items about Egypt (things not visited but came up during my initial research)
1. Siwa Oasis: An oasis nestled in the Western Desert.
2. White Desert: Landscapes of chalk-white rock formations that resemble a lunar landscape.
3. Fayoum Oasis: Egypt's largest oasis.
4. St. Catherine's Monastery: One of the world's oldest continuously inhabited monasteries.
