I could listen to Joe talk about guitars and how he finds them all day. Such an amazing man! I listen to his music every day and never get tired of it.
I always enjoy how Joe shares his knowledge on all this, and the back story, and the fact he uses these rare instruments live, so in effect sharing them with his audience, he's had a fantastic influence on some young guys who will themselves go on to be great guitar players.
Tommy Bolin also played in the James Gang for a short period. The Miami album (1974, right before Bolin joined Deep Purple apparently) is really good, a lot of great playing by Bolin. Interesting story about the 'guitar hunter' bit. Joe seems really into the history behind the guitars he collects.
I really enjoy the stories that are preserved with the guitars. Many years ago I put a ‘62 jazz bass on layaway at a store called the Guitar Trader. I eventually found out that Jennifer Batten was actually teaching guitar lessons there before she moved to LA. Ed the owner really helped out musicians in the San Diego area that went onto become very successful. Your interview with Joe really sheds a lot of light on how important it is to surround yourself with people that in courage you to get better.
Thats an amazing story Tim! I've interviewed Jennifer for the series as well... and joe is just the best and very encouraging even though im not very good yet!
@@KylieOlsson Hi Kylie I saw that you did an interview with Jennifer shortly after I watched the one you did with Joe. Lots of inspiration on your channel. I even picked up a couple of my basses and practiced. I knew Jennifer's teacher that she mentioned in her interview...Peter Spraque. All it takes is to try and spend twenty minutes or so each day and practice. Like Joe and Jennifer both said you have to pickup the instrument that you love to play. One quick story that I can share that I think you'll like is when I moved to Seattle back in the early '80s I took voice lessons from George Peckham. George taught Ann & Nancy Wilson from Heart, Merrilie Rush and Judy Collins to name a few. I got to meet Judy in August of 2019. I brought a picture of George with me and asked her if she knew George. Judy was right beside me sitting down. She looked at the picture and said nothing. I said wasn't George a good friend of your Dads? Judy then looked up at me with the sweetest look on her face, with those beautiful eyes and said "George and my Father were fraternity brothers...George was my father's best friend. Judy's father had his own radio program in Seattle. Judy told me that even after her family moved to Denver George would always fly out and visit until her father passed away. We talked for about five minutes. Judy really loved her Dad so I could tell that it meant a lot to have someone that knew her Dad's best friend there that night. It meant' a lot to me also because George was such a great mentor and friend to me. Music as are other things in our lives are based a lot on meaningful relationships. I think the really great musicians get that.
"I buy stories".... says Joe,...so true! Many guitars have stories and many are in search of their own story,... and I truly believe there is a song waiting in all guitars. I had the pleasure of talking to Joe at the Vintage Guitar show way back when this was possible in 2018 I think it was,... (I'm old so who knows),... anyway Joe took the time to take pictures with his fans there and I had made some wood guitar pick trays in the shape of guitars and gave him one,... I hope he uses it,... it would be an honor if he did. Joe mentioned something about how it's the "driver" (the artist) that really shapes the sound and not the guitar. I do know I always sound just like me no matter what I play...(sigh)!
Do you know what, I think he does use it as I think I've seen it on his dining table!! ha ha... And I know what you mean, I can't wait to not sound like me...
Kylie, you need to just make a series of Joe interviews. 😁 Have enjoyed all Joe’s interviews with others as well. It’s great learning about people, songs and instruments that make the music we love. Love the Bolin Burst and lucky to have heard it played at Ryman concert and when Joe played it on tour!
Tommy Bolin is most definitely a guitar hero of mine, like Joe. If your really want to hear Tommy wail on guitar, listen to Billy Cobham's Spectrum album...its a face melter for sure and you'll hear some great Echoplex tape effects, too!!!! Tommy is one of my favorite guitar players as is Michael Bloomfield, Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan!!!
Thank you Phil and yes I am... I decided that I prefer TH-cam over Twitch as my aim is to start creating content on location once the world is back on its feet!
Joe, don’t forget to set all the knobs on the guitars, amps, reverb tanks, and other gear, at 12:00, and any pickup selector switches or any other switches on all the guitars to the middle position when not in use.
Ernie Ball Music Man guitars are of awesome sound, quality and playability, glad to own one, too! EBMM guitars are built in San Luis Obispo, CA as like to buy American made instruments and amps.
Let me ask you...did you know that Townshend used a Country Gentleman on "Won't Get Fooled Again"? Did you know that those cabinets on top of those amps were reverb tanks? I didn't. He's not bragging...he's teaching.
It is such a turnoff that this guy snatched up every decent burst and vintage guitar...like how many guitars do you need Joe? Leave some for someone else and stop being neurotically greedy. Learn how to write a decent song for God sakes.

Love it 😅🎉
Thanks Joe for bringing normalcy to my guitar nerdiness and now feeling better about it.

Thank you Kylie🌹 and you JOE❣️❤️💕
Tommy Bolin....YES!!! I got to see him with Deep Purple in Fort woth tx in 76 when I was 17-18. !!!!! THIS is a super cool story Joe!
i like Joe...........i love Kylie..... and good interview too.
Great interviews! Thank you Kylie and Joe! ❤️
YEEES! Just great episode 2 with Joe Bonamassa! Very interesting stories about those guitars! THANK YOU KYLIE!! :)
So pleased you guys are enjoying them...

Great bit about Tommy.
saw Zephyr on PBS in '69. Cross The River and St. James Infirmary.
Couldn't buy the album fast enough. I was 12.
..involved crazy things...and most likely crazy money! Thanks Joe!

One of rock’s greatest rhythm guitarist plays a Gretsch ......Malcom young

hahaha... I have one more going live today which is probably my fav one.
@@KylieOlsson I will look for it. And Thanks.
OMG....I've never heard Joe drop the F Bomb before....I said "WHAT"....I had to put it back to check....I am shocked to my very core.
My second video of yours Kylie( after the Nuno interview) and I’m hooked.
Ah thank you so much! Im really pleased you are enjoying the interviews...
I would give everything for boils Les Paul. better in your hands though. thanks for sharing

Howzit & Aloha 🤩🤙
Joe Bonamassa is a great guitar player. Nice interview Kylie, very casual.
Hello! And thank you... he is a pretty fine player thats for sure.
@@KylieOlsson (^._.^)ノ I got turned onto him in early 2012 watching a live PBS show on TV.
Malmsteen uses .08 to .48 !!! - I wonder if Joe has any Aliexpress Stratocasters ?
Joe Walsh gave Pete Townsend a Gretsch 6120, a volume pedal and the 3x10 tweed Bandmaster. That's how he got the sound on The Who LP, "Who's Next".
I wonder if you knew what a”Whitman’s sampler” was he referred to. It’s an assortment of chocolates readily available .
I didn't so thanks for clearing that up!!! 🤣
Hi Kylie, another great video, thanks for the hard work that goes into them. Are you now only using TH-cam instead of Twitch?
Thank you Phil and yes I am... I decided that I prefer TH-cam over Twitch as my aim is to start creating content on location once the world is back on its feet!
@@KylieOlsson Thanks. I really hope that's soon. I'm really missing live music and travel right now!
Kylie Olsson is the female version of a Nerd. Does my head in with her Starstruckism.
We had a drink fridge once, my OCD wife would arrange all the shelves and colors.........I would go "Re-Arrange" just to keep her busy for an hour.
Country Gentleman ???? That’s a 6120 🤣
You’re slipping Joe 😉
Country Gent? Do you mean a 6120 (per PT)?
Joe, don’t forget to set all the knobs on the guitars, amps, reverb tanks, and other gear, at 12:00, and any pickup selector switches or any other switches on all the guitars to the middle position when not in use.
He likes this babe! I totally get it😁
"I don't buy guitars, I buy stories"....I've heard Mike Wolfe on "American Pickers" say the same thing about the things he finds...
Ernie Ball Music Man guitars are of awesome sound, quality and playability, glad to own one, too! EBMM guitars are built in San Luis Obispo, CA as like to buy American made instruments and amps.
Looks and sounds like a lot of flurting going on between Joe and the gushing interviewer 😂❤
I subbed. Thx
thank you!!
I have dreams very close . Close but no intercourse . Now at the slow motion hold kiss , will get bliss ?
What a beautiful girl go for it Joe!It’s time to get married now come on!..ha(Joke)Hope to see you soon and take care.
Wife or a collection of gear. Easy choice
gear doesn't answer back and will always love you :-)
Please tell Joe the Gretsch is a 6120 not a Country Gentleman.
But this is not a Country Gentleman (6122) Joe it is a 6120 !!!!
Country Gentleman = George Harrison.
One amp stack is higher than the other. I call bullshit!
joe's so OCD he actually spells it CDO
It's not that gibso. Is expensive a dollar isn't worth a dollar any more. Do the math
No wife? With all that success?
I feel sorry for joe. No wife no kids equals no life. I’m lucky to have balance and wish him peace and balance too.
I am sure joe is very happy as he is ,the love of his life is music
and playing guitar ..
@@ronnyp6934 no kids and wife that's sorta empty
