I don't think any One Piece villain has been presented as so fearsome as Lucci has been. Teach or Akainu maybe, but Lucci is so scary here. He is OVERWHELMINGLY stronger than Luffy and it is great.

Kujakuseki01 Akainu is as scary but Teach isn't because half of the time he acts like a complete idiot.
To be fair, Teach is scary because he carries the will of the D. He was only able to defeat Ace because he was a fellow D, himself. He also defeated Marco later (he outperformed the phoenix in energy and stamina). Lucci couldn't defeat Luffy because he doesn't carry the will of D.
At this point in the series, Teach might be able to defeat Shanks. Teach could probably defeat Akainu since Akainu's abilities aren't all that different from Ace's ability.

Desertsage Lucci doesn't carry the will of the D., but he almost defeated him using nothing but brute physical strength. It took Usopp to encourage him to fight again. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's the only for to pull that off.
The music that plays when Luffy shifts to 2nd gear, his stance, the steam (being mysterious at the time) and the Rob Lucci coming through the smoke in his leopard hybrid form, eyes glowing red..... man this was the peak of excitement. This whole arc had me in the edge of my seat.

During this entire part with Gear 2 Luffy was in control against Lucci, even when the latter was transfromed. The strongest CP9 agent couldn't get one hit in until Luffys time limit and exhaustion kicked in.

It's not always that simple. You can either choose to block or dodge. Anime fights are in reality so fast that there is no time to think, you fight on instinct and reflexes. In this case Lucci wasn't fast enough to dodge so he attempted to block it, or he WANTED to block, but in the end failed either way

Everything took a dip in the anime. Animation, art, sound, etc had more life in them back then and many of the scenes seem like stiff panel sections, not animation. Partly in fault due to the pacing I suppose.

I loved the Water 7-Enis Lobby arcs. Mainly because the straw hats had to learn new abilities before they could bring down CP9. Gear 2nd, Ashura, and Diablo Jambi all debuted here. I also like how even Nami and Chopper had their own battles against the weaker members.
This arc was amazing
The fight versus Rob Lucci is definitely one of my favorite fights with Luffy. His fight versus Katakuri is why I came back to watch this one, just to compare the intensity. In a way, Rob Lucci and Charlotte Katakuri have a lot of similarities when it comes to their personalities. Yet they are so very different.

this was the best battle. OP Battles post Time Skip are getting increasingly grand and destructive but the more powerful Luffy gets the more ridiculous his fighting style becomes wich is kinda a shame. This one felt really raw and hard core and kept you on the edge of your seat

@MP The fight that overall was the biggest disappointment for me was actually the Kaido Battle in the manga. It was really great in the beginning and the middle. Really violent tense and viscreal, but when Luffy turned into popeye it immediatly turned me off and took me out of the action. It was supposed to be serious like the Crocodile Batlle, or the Lucci one, but in the end everyone started to make ugly faced and had their eyes popout and it felt like joke, wich I get was the point, but I simply didn´t like that they went with that. It was such a letdown after a really badass buildup, at least for me

Gear 2nd is faster than Soru. So, even if he knows where Luffy is going to hit, he still has to move faster than Luffy to dodge it.
