  • Recently, I had the opportunity to film a two remarkable Kone MRL lifts. These lifts, originally installed in 1990 as Keighley hydraulic lifts, have undergone a fascinating transformation since their modernization in 2018.
I explore the modernised lifts, showing their current state. The original Keighley hydraulic lifts, with their dark and somewhat dingy interiors, exuded a certain character. Their unique charm was unmistakable, even if they lacked modern amenities. Fast forward to 2018, and these lifts underwent a significant upgrade. The hydraulic motor, which had served them faithfully for nearly 3 decades, was replaced by a hoist way mounted motor located inside the lift shaft. This change not only improved efficiency but also eliminated the need for a separate machine room. I have no idea what the machine room which is positioned above the lift shaft is now used for.
The modernized lifts now boast several enhancements. With the removal of the hydraulic system, these lifts have become far more reliable, minimising downtime and ensuring smooth operation.
The new motor allows for quicker travel between floors, making them a convenient choice for freight.
LED lighting and sleek floor displays have transformed the lifts’ ambiance. Gone are the dimly lit interiors; instead, passengers are greeted by a well lit, inviting space.
While the updated lifts undoubtedly offer practical benefits, some may miss the original lifts’ character. The dark corners and creaky sounds had a certain nostalgic appeal, reminding us of a bygone era.

I quite like those, I see a maglock has been added to the inner gate, makes it harder for a certain someone to safety break stuff and probably now a legal requirement.

Either your description is made by AI or paid for by Kone haha. In my personal opinion I'd call this a downgrade rather than upgrade, especially owing to Kones questionable build quality nowadays
