    I just finished this years competition at my middle school. We were averaging 80-120 meters, record was a 190 gram rocket that went 169 meters.

      This year we broke our record with 190.

      @Daniel Allshorn I teach 8th grade, we aim for the high school next to us. I never thought we would come close. We have easily launched 1000+ times over the years and only 5 have hit the property. The 190m rocket was truly impressive and it landed near the front steps.

    Very interesting and informative video, USWR. We're looking forward to see the next part of this series. :) Also very good video editing, especially at the end of the video! =)

      Thanks! These videos are very post production intensive. Lots of narration and graphics makes them more difficult to produce. The end section was more of a fun thing to try and sync up the edits to the music in a nice way, just to do something a little different.

    • @RaketfuedrocketsDeutschland
      @RaketfuedrocketsDeutschland 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, animations are always a lot of work. We know that from our own videos, but I think your animations are even more complicated since we only use the integrated key frame tool in our editing software. As you know, we find it quite important to sync the edit to the music, even in tutorials and videos like this, so you did a great job. Greetings - Julian :)

    Awesome video! Greetings from Portugal

      lol i just used a ginger ale bottle for the main rocket and a nose cone from another bottle. i filled it with yoga ball material. i put 3 fins 13 cm long on the hypotenuse of the triangle on the other side then wrapped the whole rocket in duct tape like 3 times. The rocket went 135 meters. I know this comment was over a year ago but i still wanna reply lol

      My advice to you is to investigate a technique called "backsliding", "backglide", or "sidegliding" as it applies to model rockets and water rockets. The general idea is to make the rocket long and thin so it comes down sideways and not nose end first. If you are required to use a single bottle for the rocket, then make a cardboard or paper tube around the rocket to make it long. A long rocket will only need tiny fins to be stable in flight. If you weight the rocket so it is balanced around the center lengthwise, the rocket will fly up in a stable fashion, but will turn on its side and float down sideways very slowly. Read all you can about this technique, and it should easily beat all the other rockets if they don't know about this.

    What brand was the skinny 2 little bottle?

    • @USWaterRockets
      @USWaterRockets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no skinny 2 liter bottles available. We fabricate our own using regular 500ml bottles joined together using the bottle splicing method featured in our previous video: th-cam.com/video/tGxOnuNxDoQ/w-d-xo.html and shown being pressure tested in this video: th-cam.com/video/rLhkak4YCak/w-d-xo.html

    So what kind of fin designs should I do?

    • @USWaterRockets
      @USWaterRockets  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smaller fins that are stiff and won't flop around will yield more velocity and less drag, so you will go farther. Good luck!

    honestly why do they have so many rules for something so fun

    • @USWaterRockets
      @USWaterRockets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For safety mainly. With kids involved and a potential for exploding a rocket, the risk of serious bodily harm or hearing damage is worth a few rules.

    • @richard6440
      @richard6440 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      why do they have so many rules for something so fun , do you want to build a rocket of thin metal, then pump it up until it explodes? thats a shrapnel bomb, dude. and THATS why they need rules. its called common sense, something that some people get as they grow up.
