- In less than two decades, Under Armour grew to become one of the biggest sports apparel brands in the world, touting a roster of sports celebrities like Steph Curry and Tom Brady. But now, the future of the company is uncertain. Sales growth at Under Armour has slowed in North America and its stock has fallen from its all-time highs. Can the apparel brand rebuild its momentum and catch the athleisure wave before it’s too late, or will rivals Lululemon, Nike and Adidas take over?

How Under Armour Fell Flat During The Athletic Boom
Not embracing athleisure was a big mistake, plus UA need to shrink their logo on their products. Consumers don't want to be a walking billboard
Everybody is a walking billboard these days. UA is no diff. Too high priced for what you get imo.
on the contrary, rich people want to be associated to pricey products. nothing brings them more joy than to have a giant signboard printed on their wear screaming im rich. the bigger the logo, the more obvious it is to be seen.
you may be right about the logo.. though other brands do it too. There are plenty of Nike and Adidas clothing with their logo very prominently displayed.
Facts! The logo isn't what sells the brand
Some brands logo I actually want to be visible, but not on training gear
What they left out is UA fell out of favor with that core teen/young adults demo. They consider UA a dad brand. There’s no cool factor in UA.
Definitely true
facts, and its not just a dad brand. its a "suburban dad" brand. A lot of American flags im jus sayin
@@dessythamagician8717 imagine being offended by the american flag in the USA
Only people that wear UA are dads and off-duty cops. No one under the age of 25 goes near it. Lululemon is where it's at.
@@pirate1012 lulu isn’t even a competitor of ua. Or adidas. Lulu is a league of it’s own.
They have cheap looking products at premium prices. Take the approach that adidas took and ramp up quality and style, consumers will follow.
An stop making ugly sneakers
Steph Curry shoes are ugly too.
Go Getter 100 percent it looks tacky compared to nike and others
Their shoes all look like generic shoes from NBA 2k whatever year you’d like tbh lol.
The whole point of this video is that they focused on quality too much and less on style.
CEO/Chairman is delusional and will run the company into the ground. The analyst said it perfectly, UA wants to focus on the 50,000 runners vs the 5 million spectators 🤷🏽♂️
@Scott Covert because thats how you make money
Can't trust a dude named plank
Exactly, look outside your window what are most people wearing every day, sweats and yoga pants. Even with athletes after daily workouts they're usually change to sweats and ath-leisure.
The majority of those 50,000 runners actually wearing Nike. The best of them wearing Next%. UA failed to attract professional runners.
their running apparel is quality and sold at a decent price. Their running shoes FFS they are the worst, they lag behind Nike, saucony, brooks, adidas, new balance, asics and lol sketchers.
I love under armour products. They last for years! But I would never pay full price. Just go to ross and it’s like 75% off!
Exactly, so do I. Their stuff lasts for years. Nike and Adidas is all about looking like a peacock and they supply stuff that won’t last 6 months.
I go there store and they always have sales. It’s amazing
Overpriced nylon.
Taking existing cheap technology and market it as something trendy. Genius
@@ft9kop that's what a lot of American companies seem to do.

Of anybody thinks this isn't about Curry and the warriors in 2015 and his shoe doesent know anything. The dude was the biggest player next to lebron in 2015-2016 his shoes just got worse looking since.
The quality has gone down significantly too. My cold new cold gear didn’t last anywhere near the ones I bought in 2004 that are still going strong. I’m also aware that by making a product that lasts doesn’t make them money, but I do expect to get more than 6mos use of it.
same, mine from 2004 (the black turtle neck) is still the warmest thing I own.
I disagree that making products that last doesn't make you money. Look at Toyota, most reliable vehicles and also ironically sells the most cars.
Agree 100% older UA cloths do last longer. I love UA cloths for running, Cold gear line is awesome. Shoes not so much.
Lies again? UCL APPS
I rarely buy stuff like that. I feel like I’m paying to advertise some company’s branding with the huge logos on their imported t-shirts.
But that Logo is really Dope brother
What the hell do you buy then? 95% of shirts have logos
Buy cheap Hanes shirts. 3 dollar shirts and are very comfortable. No visible logo either.

Same here and it wasn't even a marketing class,
it's sad too me. I love their shoes but their clothing is too say the least, bad.
That's normal you know, you should be aware of that if you studied business. The average Fortune 500 company doesn't last more than 30 years and what that means is that there's a few that last longer but a lot that come and go in that time period.
@@mdogzino wow. I don't even need to study business now.
Society changed. They didn’t. It’s the same problem with every has-been company that went bankrupt or is about to.

He had some nice looking ones, the 4s, 5s, 6s and now the 8s all look great imo
The thing is nike dominates basketball and anything that isnt nike has to be 10000x better to be on the same level as nike (to the general public) which makes really difficult for brands to grow in that market
Plus basketball is a sport mostly followed by young people and young people dislike under armour as brand, which makes them look away from most of their products, even if they look nice, like some of the Curry's
Facts
@@futurehofer1564 I could agree but look at player popularity as well Lebrons and Kobes shoes would have releases and immediate sell outs in the 2010s. Under armour had that same hype in 2015 and 2016. Maybe player models are dying off for more of the Travis Scotts and the Yeezys but to not see how big sales figures were with the models of the one and two showed Under armour just being lazy with design since.
@@chadwilliams9141 I think the Curry designs are actually the only thing close to "well designed" at UA
I do agree that celebrities collab have taken a bit of that hype, and thats also on UA because these celebs are cashing in on the athleisure trend, something ua doesnt do, they basically create a image for themselves of being a boring company and no one wants to be a boring person, so they dont wear ua
They would need a major rebranding to change this
That's because the guy who designed Curry's first two shoes, went to Nike and started to design Kobe's shoes.
They forgot not everyone is The Rock
Can't agree more.
That's the only thing I can think of when I think of Under Armor. and I'm simply not paying that much money for something that I've really not crazy about. 🤷🏽♀️

UA needs to stop charging Nike level prices. They aren’t at that level to charge the same kinda prices
Both charge similar. I don’t have a problem with it.
UA isn’t a budget brand the shoes is mid but the leggings and spandex are great
@@ruggerREL I have under armor sweatpants they’re amazing
There brands that are charging more than Nike and people are buying them that haven’t even been around as long as Nike or ua. Like gymshark, hylete, alphalete, and the list goes on. Price has nothing to do with it.
@@sidharthchand8072 not amazing aight like good but not trash
UA doesn’t have the premium appeal. It screams outlet products.
Tell me about, I only buy UA from the outlets
I have no idea what they're talking about with being purely performance oriented. My Nike sneakers and workout clothes function AND look better than my UA gear. Management is delusional.
Exactly. As a lifelong athlete and has a 25 year athletic trainer I can tell you that under armor shoes are the worst thing I’ve ever put on my feet. They hurt, they’re hard, they look like a cheap hard plastic and feel like it
I believe its how they market their product. Like the 1 presenter said at the New York Marathon they focus on the 50,000 runners and ignore the 5 million onlookers.
Look how Nike markets Jordan shoes vs how Under Armour marketed Curry One. Air Jordan's are more than capable for basketball court use but that's not why people bought them. Curry Ones had this cushion thing that giv......bla bla bla. No one is buying Curry One to become Steph Curry. Also with Nike and other apparels you can find options for tight work shirts that does all the sweat wicking magic but they make sure to offer a slightly comfortable shirt that is not performance related.
My New Balance shoes are cheaper than any Nike shoes I've had and they are more durable too. I've been disappointed with some Nike and Under Armour products compared to cheaper alternatives.
I'm not huge on style. If it fits, is comfortable and durable, I like it. I'll pay up to get that if necessary. Maybe the company is going downhill, but if the argument is that they focus too much on quality, then I think that's a bad reason to call UA products bad. They have a line of socks that I almost wear exclusively because they are that good. I also use MyFitnessPal and mapmyrun a lot. Regarding MyFitnessPal, no one else close to them in that market. I don't pay a lot for UA stuff or any clothing really. Just wait for deals and but stuff in bulk.

It just doesn’t have the global recognition like Nike or Adidas.

The UA Playoff 2.0 Polo Shirt is the best of its kind on the market. I own 8 of them, and wear them to work all summer long. If you join UA as a member they constantly send me emails with sale notifications and promo codes, which allows me to purchase at a discount, because UA is expensive otherwise. I also like that they're not fashion forward, and more uniform looking. A grown man should not be wearing neon green in public, like every Nike outfit I see.

@@bogdannemes1995 that's why it's ridiculous that they mentioned Steffen Curry and others but not him 😂🤦
But I finally realised what the SC means on the UA products.
I actually like Under Armour products. They are delivering quality products at comparable prices to Nike.
I beg to differ. The biggest issue is they focus on men in the beginning and only recently focused on women. I recently bought two pieces from their new women’s product line, base layer and a running sweater that were on the premium end. I say I got it for the look and colour/design at first and when I use it for function, the fit and comfort was off. The shoulder doesn’t fit well on the base layer like it’s made for a wider frame and the sweater was a bit scratchy and doesn’t keep warmth. The problem is they haven’t nailed women’s athletic wear. People don’t mind paying more for better quality and style is important given the piece more versatility. I’m definitely a Lululemon fan and it also consistently looks better and is much more comfortable to wear than UA stuff I have. Don’t get me started on the shoes, the reason I got their cleates for softball isn’t because they are great because they are so marked down for $30 and much cheaper than other alternatives. I didn’t necessarily needed new cleates but when they are so cheap why not. All women at least majority, athlete or not would rather look cute in their workout gear than not if it functions the same. I don’t know why the CEO doesn’t want m edge to their competition. But in any case the new UA stuff does look better but after trying and not satisfied with the function I’m not buying again unless really marked down.
I feel like athleisure was almost on the way out of fashion but then corona happened and we all wanted to be comfortable at home
Trackkies, track suit pants, nope I never got that healthy , stuck with jeans
May I ask: What gave you the impression that it was on the way out?
It's going to stay big with Boomers and Gen X, i.e. half the country.
Everything is cyclical. It will eventually stop being "cool". All trends eventually wear out.
I used to think Under Amour was for wearing underneath your outer clothing like long-johns.

I know his shoes need to be re done with some style
Nike knows how to keep their products fresh and stylish. Don’t like that? That’s fine, they also offer products that are not flashy for reasonable prices too. Under Armour deviated itself away from its base that made them popular. It’s no longer popular among people in my age demographic. It’s becoming a dad brand. People in their 20’s, in my opinion, gear more towards Nike and New Balance.
But what's funny is not long ago NB was just as much generally seen as a dad brand.

I wear them for physical work, running and generally working out and they're durable, comfortable, and they also aren't insanely expensive. Regarding the shoes and shirts, I have no idea if they're good. I think I have an under armour shirt or two and they're interchangeable for the cheap compression moisture wicking shirts and so are the Nike ones. I've had expensive Nike shoes that were far less durable by much cheaper new balance shoes too. In my experience, you pay for the brand name, not the quality.
Under armor makes great hunting apparel, military apparel, and the latest the project rock clothing line. All there other clothing is overrated.
I feel like Nike is the giant purely because of the Jordan brand, an ADIDAS has big ties to soccer. Under Armour tries, but they're just lost behind. With that said, I love Under Armour
It also depends on where in the world you are talking about. Certain brands are bigger in certain countries and have ties to popular sports in those countries. For example Li-Ning is very popular in China and has big ties to Basketball 🏀. Asics is big in Southern hemisphere countries like Australia, South Africa, New Zealand etc and has ties to Rugby 🏉 and Cricket 🏏. Mizuno is popular in Japan and South Korea with it's ties to golf ⛳. Your not.
It’s stupid expensive only dumb people would fund their crazy profit margins
I think under armour products will always be around. They were really big 6 to 7 years ago, I don't think they will reach that level again. But they will stay popular because they make a good product with the exception of their shoes.
I love under armor is my favorite brand of clothing
i been underarmour fan since 2006 and their quality used to be great and reasonably priced but they got greedy and switch to lower quality materials. They still have few great products usually seen in their brand houses but prepare for a sticker shock. The “rock” lineup and couple of curry lineup with new technology are awesome. I will still buy underarmour shoes but selection for quality shoes are getting slim.
If they can get their shoes right, they can turn it around. Being a Dad brand can be profitable, but not a growth engine.

Personally I love under armour 😂. The thermal running shirt and leggings have been FANTASTIC when I run in the winter. Their summer workout gear is also great. I have abused these clothes when working out and will sometimes wash them three times a week. Yet they hold up after each wash! I have tried Nike gear but I have had such a hard time finding work out gear that holds up.
