    KFC in China is very different with KFC in the rest of the world. I think customization and localization make it stand out of the fast food chains.

    KFC in China is not even famous for its original fried chicken that they sells in US. They have so many other burgers, roasted chicken wings, some form of beef and chicken burritos, and local Chinese food that are actually delicious. Their Portuguese egg tart is freaking amazing. one thing is because unlike burgers and other foods, Fried chicken exists in every culture in some form, so it is easy to export to another culture with minimal modification. They also were first in China for western fast food, which gave them early brand recognition. They also made very good political and business connections in China which helped. But the fact that fried chicken is universal means minimal need to explain the cuisine to customers

    There're lots of restaurants in China, which means there's a lot of competition. Not only that, KFC is relatively independently operated by a Chinese food company in China, so the menu items are quite different compared to those in the US. They also have new items coming out frequently, and they do taste good in most cases. But in US, KFC is basically just boring low quality fried chicken all day long. In fact, the same goes for most fast-food restaurants in the US. They barely change menu items and just have the same stuff for many years. Really wondering how fast-food chains like that can survive.

      China is totalitarian monster created by American corporate greed!
      If you look where the bulk of US jobs went to and compare it to what happened to the middle class in America and in China in the last thirty years, you ought to come to this conclusion.
      We can't have our economies depend on totalitarian regimes and be free in our democratic aspirations for the future, period! Our experience of the last thirty plus years has proven this indisputably.
      West, Taiwan and Ukraine included, must completely decouple its economies and online space from totalitarian China and Russia BEFORE it is TOO LATE, ASAP!

      @frankrizzoa1275 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      In America they survive because many people here love cheap garbage food and they don't have to cook. And Americans love the same stuff over and over for many years. It's why we get married and watch the same shows with the same characters for 97 seasons. I go to McDonald's like 4 times per year. I bring my dogs to get nuggets after their vet appointments. And KFC here in the states is complete trash. I mean even for fast food standards. But these places survive here in the States because in this country fast food places and supermarkets are cathedrals.

We don't mind dirty floors or bad service. We don't get better because we don't demand better and that is cost effective for these American companies that have absolutely no loyalty to the American consumer. They figure if American consumers don't like what's being served to them, oh well they are welcome to eat something else.

    • @baronvonjo1929
      @baronvonjo1929 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @jenniferesein4813 I disagree as various companies in different segments have fallen behind in various points in history by competitors that provide better service.
      I mean in my area of the nation for example a gas station brand called Quick Trip changed the entire landscape for gas stations. Before they came, it was all small, dirty, run down buildings with bad service.
      QT took so much business away from various chains that many closed and others had to do massive renovations to compete because the service and quality were miles ahead.
      If you offer Americans better service and cleaner locations, they will come. It's been proven over and over.

    KFC in China is totally another level. Its actually good with all the flavours (if you don't like Chinese flavours its fine because they still do all the original ones just as good), its really cheap if you take part in online surveys or get promo codes etc. Also, KFC in China innovates at least 4 or 5 times every year and basically change a big chunk of their menu which means that unless you are very heavily addicted to KFC, you are pretty much guaranteed a new experience every time.

    Not gonna lie, I was born in China and grew up as a kid there until I moved to U.S. Even back in early 2000s, being able to go to KFC in China was a luxury for the average household because it was very expensive to eat American fast food in China. You can easily spend 50 RMB 20-30 years ago for one or two people, and the average household income per month was only about 300 RMB. It still is kind of expensive even today. But I remember the way they made their chicken for the locals were vastly different than how they would make it in America, because they had to cater to the locals' flavor. The chicken was cooked with way more spices and packed with flavors I felt like, and it just tasted way better.
    When I moved to America and had their KFC, the taste was just not the same. It was a lot more disappointing because the chicken was dry. The chicken they serve now in KFC in America just doesn't taste the same as it was back then, and it feels like the quality has gone down a lot compared to how they originally started. My only advice is that you try KFC yourself in China and then you'll understand how better it taste compared to the ones in America because of the customization they do catered to their locals.

      @@lvjinbin28 KFC is mostly for parents to take their kids because kids love the kids meal. Most local adults would just rather eat like a big plate of chow mein or soup noodles for half of the cost, and it's more filing and comforting because some places let you have unlimited refills of noodles and soul until you're satisfied. It's just a no brainer to eat those instead of fast food and spend more money. A family of 3 is just better off going to an all you can eat hotpot place and pay like 100 RMB than 100RMB at KFC, because 100 RMB isn't enough to feed a family of 3 full, especially if you want to eat a bit more.

    To those who think they should do better in the US. It's impossible where they stand now, it's just different economy they represent. McDonald and KFC are not your typical minimum wage food in places like China, they're pretty expensive compare to local cheapest places. I have visited China many times pre-pandemic, the pricing of the food is more like your typical higher end of middle class food. If i have to place a figure, i would say it's about equivalence of $50-$75 per person. Please note this is not based on currency exchange, I'm referring to purchase power in relationship to how much people make and food cost. It's pure estimation based on my experience, actual experience may be varies due to location and personal perception of this matter.

    I think why KFC thrives there, because fried chicken is not a new thing there. But it's hard to find a convenient place that sells it. Popcorn chicken is a staple there, but it just doesn't taste anything close to KFC.

      I was living in TW in the 90's when the Portuguese egg tarts became popular. KFC added it to their menu and 26 years later, they are still there!

    When i lived in Thailand ,KFC seemed popular there also .They have spicey versions to cater for the local taste .They were well priced so locals could afford where as Burger king there seemed over priced and were depending mainly on Tourists .McDonalds are also popular in Thailand .

      Exactly I went to a branch in Shanghai and they were pouring some kind of black, thick, filthy liquid (dirty oil) down a drainage right in front of my eyes.
      Next they proceeded to give me cold fries, I got the bubble guts after eating. I'm so surprised by all this praise for kfc China.

    I'm a Brit who is currently living in Kuwait; I'm a maths teacher, and moved here to work. I order KFC on the KFC Kuwait app and an app called Talabat. The KFC here is officially 'KFC', but tastes noticeably different to the UK. I think the 'secret formula spices' or whatever just aren't provided to Kuwait KFC places. Like I have a KFC in the UK when I returned home for Christmas, and my friend told me this would be the last 'real KFC' I'll eat in a while. China's a big market, but Kuwait's obesity due to american fast food companies setting up shop here indicates that the Arab countries are another great market for KFC.

      There are loads of American restaurant chains all across the world but not a single one from UK
      UK is an embarasment when it comes to restaurants
      US food is consumed far far more across the world than Uk food
      UK lives up to its reputation of having apalng food

    The major reason american fast food restaurants got popuplar on china is because they adapt to local flavors. If they only serve th traditional kfc fried chicken, then the chain would die in less than a month.

    One of my dad's friends owns 10% of one ...decently sized city's KFC company's stock, since their dad worked for that city's KFC branch in a somewhat major position. It works all on a local basis (each city has its own branch and company if i remember correctly) and there's a lot of struggle setting it up (a lot of bureaucracy and corruption opportunities for a foreign company needing governmental approval to expand, including bargaining with the local alcohol and tobacco commitees for some reason). Still, it is at where it is now, after a lot of hard work and networking

    I went to China after much North American KFC. The difference in quality was astounding. The chicken is so juicy and flavoured. The amount of herbs actually in the Chinese chicken blew NA out of the water.
    This was common for all of the international restaurant chains.

    How do you decouple/de-risk with China? That's 7.2billion USD for ONE company. There are literally 500 more American corporations like this making huge amount of profit in China.
    Instead of blessing competition, we have now shy away from it with more restrictions. This type of ideology is why we are in decline.
