UPDATE: Since recording this I have played through the entire game play aspect in the pack, and I did have fun! CAS is decent too. This doesn't change the fact that I'm still really disappointed with build mode, but the majority of the world is wonderful. The furniture objects in this pack are...interesting. The windows/doors/build items are AMAZING. Overall, I don't know how to feel. There are definitely some things that could've been better, but I did enjoy a lot of this pack. I might still pass on this one.

Not everyone are builders. I personally am the type of person who prefer to use the original homes on the lot and spent more time on CAS and gameplay. Empty house and and carbon copy house is a sign of laziness. I have no idea why some people keep on defending this kind of bad behavior. She made a realistic complain, that's it.
Yeah, I was disappointed that even though the trailer seemed to suggest the girl with the braids would be a good default protagonist, little about the house she was living in seemed to fit with the Sims they had placed there. It was super expensive and they didn't have jobs and their preexisting skills and traits weren't that helpful. There were only *two* bedrooms for a household of 3 single sims. The first thing I had to do was put in an actual bedroom for a sim which was ridiculous.
Same, I’m turning 13 next year so I can’t get other peoples builds. I’m okay with the interior building, but not in these huge homes. It makes me really sad

exactly, NOBODY’S going to replay the story again and again and again but people ARE going to build houses and use the resources provided by the pack.
I just feel like it doesn't justify hating the whole pack. Sure the builds are bad, and that's kind of shitty. But I can't see many people buying a pack just for the builds.
I miss towns having graveyard with pre sims that used to live in the town. It added history to the town
I miss characters with actual storylines. No sims have relationships, and they don't have any relatives? Makes no sense.

I don't understand how you guys don't get where she's coming from. People aren't paying $20 for a lack of effort. They didn't have to carbon copy the WORST base game house. And she's not bashing the whole pack or the neighbourhood ....just that house. Also she asserted that she only looked at build mode.

I just feel like she overreacted. They just focused more on the story and tbh I personaly couldn't care less if there are any empty pre build houses in the neighbourhood as long as the main feature of the pact runs smoothly.

Valerie Lynch I’m just confused and disappointed with EA recently. Strangerville is probably my favorite looking world. It is absolutely beautiful and the detail is stunning. But ??? Wtf happened. It’s like they had a school project that they worked everyday on and made it beautiful, then got lazy and finished it at the last minute.

Things that could have been better than empty houses:
-Houses with every object in the exact same colour
-Having a painting that is started yet no sims on the lot that could have started it
-Giving each room a different primary colour
-Not using the same kind of window twice
-Having much more bedrooms or bathrooms than necessary
-Having more than one kitchen
-Putting sink in every single room (for sims that can't stand not washing their hands lol)
-Using swimming pools inside of each room
-Unexpected items (e.g a teddy bear in the bathroom)
-Putting teddy bears in every rooms (or any kind of object like that)
-Clocks everywhere!!
-Having a fully black and white house but with ONE coloured object in it
-Hiding a grave somewhere in the house where it's unexpected
-Weird mix of rooms (e.g instead of a kitchen/living room make a living room/bathroom or a kitchen/bedroom in a big mansion)
Feel free to add on the list!! So many things are much more mysterious than lack of furnitures!

I know she sounds really nitpicky here but in her defense, EA does look really lazy. Like she said they want $20 for a pack of basically the same things we've already bought six other times.
20 dollars for the stuff and the world and the cool little story and cas items not the bloody houses you can download them easy! Or build them! Like kids these days getting made about houses like what James on simssupply playing with the dev he even says "we don't make the best houses but other people do like on the Gallery they are way better then us" that's why they like and favourite houses mate

EA are known for ripping off their customers. When you look at sims 3, the difference in attention to detail is crazy. They also sold a star wars game for £50 and then added microtractions...

Idk I used to be happy about buying the Sims 3 expansion packs, but the Sims 4 makes me feel like wasting money
scorpiosimmer I waited when the sims 4 came out & see what others say about it. One of my gal pals bought it & she was livid.i got to experience the game play when we hung out & it was a total waste of money. EA is just not making any effort with the sims. They are just trying to scam ppl now. If they are doing it with the sims 4, you know they will do it with the sims 5. Hands down! I’m sticking w/ my “the sims, TS2 & TS3. The sims 4 is a joke. A waste of money & im so glad I never got it💪🏻❤️💪🏻

I'd love to go back to the Sims 3! It was so much fun, you got so much more from the packs and since I own most I'd love to be on it as much as possible.
Such a shame they made it so that my Mac, which ran it perfectly fine before, can no longer run the game because they didn't want to keep it supported.
I still play sims 3 because it’s objectively better than sims 4 and I still have to stop myself from buying every game pack in sims 3 because I can’t afford them, however sims 4, I don’t want to buy them because I know they’ll be a huge unfinished, overpriced letdown. Sims 4 clearly has no love in it and is nothing more than a money-maker to EA and I refuse to support my favourite franchise be treated as such.

Irongirltoni strangerville has like one path for the gameplay after you finished the mystery you have NOTHING to do, like isn’t ts4 here to make you able to create YOUR storyline ? So why did they did a pre-made storyline? I bought strangerville not for the gameplay but for the town
Conspiracy: They make the houses bad and empty so that they’re cheaper, and it runs better, BUT it also gets people talking and builders renovating
Therefore they have less work to do

Seems like a similar game plan as the modder-dependency in Fallout 76. Why spend the time making a quality game when the community will go and fix it anyways, and for free? SMH.
Yes, i think that’s it and i’ve always thought that it’s empty because not all of us have super computers so it makes it run faster and make people more creative 😂

Exactly! People say it's unnecessary to complain because you can fix it easily, but we shouldn't have to! Why should I have to pay for a game and then go through it and fix all of the errors? That's like buying a shirt that arrives with a rip in it and saying "it's fine I can just sew it up myself". It's absolutely laziness, they're putting out unfinished products and repairing them with updates when they can be bothered. I miss the games being on disks, at least then they had to make sure everything worked before releasing it.

my theory is that EA purposely does nothing to the game because they know modders , builders , and anyone else that wants to add to the game WILL add to the game . meaning less work for them but still getting payed lots because of us 🤷🏽♀️ .

You have every right to be upset. And I applaud you for making these mistakes known. Their builds are always hideously empty, boring, and unplayable! Legit how can you not playtest? How?? You're releasing content that we, the fans, are going to pay 20 DOLLARS FOR, and you don't playtest your builds?? It's just sad. I love you simsie. You are the hope in this community.

@@josmos1182 Well that's why EA houses need to have fewer objects in them than what people on TH-cam build, sure, but that's only 1 out of 3 main issues here. Making starter homes that are not copy pasted from the basegame and playtasting that kitchen wouldn't hurt the game's performance at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay I get having a weak computer bc that's what I'm stuck on. But you can make VERY simple houses look cute. They just are lazy when it comes to the houses interiors. Outsides of all of them are super cool and different but the inside is lacking

GUYS you have to pay $20 for this pack. That is ABSURD. I know a lot of Sims players that personally don’t play many other games but I promise you other games do NOT charge as much as the sims for such little content. Seriously it is an outright scam. In total, for the base game plus ALL expansions, game packs, and stuff packs that’s a $580 game. Think about that. NO other game costs that much to have all the features, EA is known for their ridiculousness when it comes to charging consumers more money than anyone else. Modders make game mods, CAS mods, and build mods for FREE, and if they can do it as quickly and effectively as they do for FREE(I realize some modders get paid for this BUT we get the content for free), then so can the people at EA doing it for money. It’s not just Strangerville that feels lackluster, all of the EA builds are terrible, I don’t know why they don’t have people like deligracy, lilsimsie, or simkim not building the houses that go into the packs. It’s always seemed odd to me that the people that make the game don’t build very good houses compared to things we’ve seen from many youtubers.
My point being, I’m glad Kayla is ranting about this pack especially as a game changer, the other game changers I watch rarely have anything negative to say about packs even though there is plenty wrong with them. The developers need to step it up. We shouldn’t be investing THAT much money into something that feels so poorly made.
Extra note here’s what the actual realistic prices SHOULD be for new content:
Stuff packs: free, seriously it’s like 10-12 build items a few new clothes and maybe a new hair it’s not worth $10 when it took them maybe 2 hours to make
Game packs: $10, something actually semi valuable, they add new clothes a few new build items and occasionally some really good gameplay
Expansion packs: $20 these are the biggest and most impressive packs so they are worth something but certainly NOT $40

You are right. People don't have that much money to spend on a game. Especially get famous. It has a small world. Good gameplay bug what is that small world? All of the packs are super expensive. But the base game hasn't got any good items. The worlds are basic as well.

i agree. I use to play sims 4 on my ps4 until i got a macbook, it’s really upsetting that i couldn’t transfer my game packs and etc to the sims 4 on the mac. So basically I purchase most of the packs again but i’m not satisfied at all luckily until i started working with mods. Sims 4 prices are ridiculous even with their free gameplay or that sims 4 app they have on the phones. At this point they need to hire young creative people to make the sims 4 much better.

Its not Aliens though... Its plants, that makes sense if you had no other pack. I think a lot of people are missing out on the game. Because they are trying to make a little story for some people. If people don't like the pack they don't need to get the pack.
Get Famous came out four months ago. University has been something that has been in the game before. EA is just trying something new while they are probably working on University as well. We all want University, but if we keep rushing EA and pressuring them to release it, it will be a garbage expansion and people will keep complaining.

@@bobturner2312 the houses are absolutely a part of the pack. They have created a new world for the gamers to explore, and that includes the lots they place. I agree with Kayla, that to carbon copy a base game build is not really acceptable. Even just changing the colour scheme and decor would have sufficed, but this is a running theme with the franchise.
I doubt it's the guru's fault directly: it seems a lot of blame is being placed on EA, but as Kayla has proven it takes literally minutes to build a starter home. Especially for people who actually do it for a living.
The non-functioning kitchen I feel like could be a genuine mistake however. We know Sims can prepare food on a corner counter piece. Whoever made the bunker may have assumed (understandably) that the kitchen would have been functioning.
Overall I feel a little disappointed in the pack, but I personally don't care for the story based gameplay so my opinion there is invalid.
Rebecca Wild the houses are not a part of the pack. Most of the houses the Team builds get destroyed and refurnished anyway. The whole world is beautiful and they really improved the CAS that comes w this pack. They added a lot of details and worked super hard making something different. WHY does it matter if the starter home is intricate. It’s a fucking starter home. I swear to god there is no pleasing this community.
@@FlwlssAngel because it's supposed to be a part of a pack.. with new content.. cool new lots (staters included) are definitely looked forward to by many people in the community. it also takes away the immersion and unique feeling of it being a new world.

Strangerville, in general, is DEFINITELY not worth what it costs. The starter-home sucks. The houses are empty, and the mystery of Strangerville SUCKS. I finished the mission of Strangerville in 2 hours. 2 hours of gameplay for 25$! Overall, this pack really sucks and it is not worth its price tag.
the only reason I would buy it is for the millitary and laptop and that’s not worth 20USD so what I’m saying is I’m never gonna get the pack

@@IronSeagull ea has a monopoly on this corner of the gaming industry and HAS left fans of life simulators who don't like eaxis with nothing to do. if fans are angry, there's a reason for that, and it has nothing to do with hating on a game for the sake of it. it's the internet. not all criticism is going to be constructive. saying that the sims 4 has major issues and that there are members of its fanbase that ignore these issues and handwave the criticism that IS constructive from players isn't hating, it's acknowledging something that's actually happening.
Yknow the thing that really makes me mad about the sims is that the things they need to fix are so easy for them to do. Yet they don't.

Simple Simmer but some simple things that barely requires 5 seconds are ignored. Like adding an extra color choice etc
@@ViceCityExtra if they do miss something they add it in a free update like every free update has been things that they either missed or we asked for and they where nice enough to give it to us for free. Like no other game has given so many free updates if you look at sims 3 they didn't do nothing for free so maybe you should do some research
Simple Simmer a lot of games give stuff for free. Many games are just a buy 1 copy pf the game and you get all content and all future content. But EA literally divided their expansion pet pack into an expansion pack and a stuff pack.

Hire little simsie as a builder for the sims 4, she won’t miss toilets and can build basic starter lots in 15 minutes or less!
CoolAaronJL tbh she would probably do it for free for an opportunity to make the game better and more playable
And because shes a natural sim builder and posts her builds, shes used to play testing them before uploads to make sure she doesnt look incompetent.
That would be a cool way to implement great builds into the sims, get the game changers to build lots to place in game and they can be like cool little easter eggs
I feel like ea would have people a lot happier if they brought in different ea "gamechangers" as consultants. Lil simsie for suburban and Victorian homes, Deligracy would have done a great job with Get Famous because she is great at mansions and sim supply has the modern asthetic down.
It would be smart for promotions too if they recorded it to release after the initial trailer.
She honestly beats out their employees who build the houses. Sim supply did a video with a game developer/builder and the guy really wasn’t that great at building. Semaj did most of the work or corrected what the guy did. I’m just embarrassed for the people who make the builds and stuff because they aren’t really that good...
I can see everyone here defending EA because they either don't focus on the builds or they redo them all anyway and I'm here thinking.... So what? That means they can just copy-paste content and be lazy?
Also, there is absolutely no depth left to the game and it's so lazily done in ALL aspects so I'm not exactly sure what y'all mean by defending a billion dollar company that has an "earn the most by doing the least" type of policy and is ruining a great game concept in the process.

THAT'S WHY GEORGE CAHILL IS ALWAYS UNCOMFORTABLE!!! Omg, you have solved the mystery of George Cahill for me. Every time I talked to that dude he was uncomfortable and resisted all attempts to lighten his mood. I moved into the trailer park and would see him often and it just became a running joke that he was ALWAYS uncomfortable, I thought it was the paranoia trait! It's because he was starving, he had to go OUT to get food cause his kitchen didn't function! XD I will be fixing this in my game, tysm.

ummm, strangetown was the same wasn’t it? very empty builds and dull looking buildings, etc. i think this world is meant to look empty and isolated to give off a stranger vibe... like what they did with strangetown :/ kayla obviously didn’t play much of this in sims 2 and probably isn’t the type of sims gamer to play this type of game content too. again, since you’re a pro builder simmer, you have a right to complain about the builds but as a gameplayer, please appreciate the stories and secrets a.k.a the actual purpose of the content of this pack has to offer.

I don't watch her often, if ever because of videos like this.. it just seems whiny for no reason. I get recommended her video's from other Simmers and every time I watch them it's just complaining after complaining. Thought I'd see what it is this time and I think she missed the core point of the world. It's strange and makes no sense LOL.
I'm just saying this as sort of an outsiders POV but I think you missed the point. she was solely focusing on the building aspect of the sims. Try watching some her LPs, they're really good!

Do people not pay attention to things anymore. She literally started, in the video, that she was going to make a separate gameplay video. This video was mainly about the world and a reused house. Not to mention a non functioning kitchen.

I've never cared too much that EA provided lots are largely empty, as I never really move a sim into a house and just expect to start playing. Generally I delete most things anyway and re-furnish to my liking. I get the annoyance over play testing though, that's just frustrating when stuff like that should be working. I've always thought if sims players like yourself or say Deligracy or The Sim Supply are able to get and mess with packs ahead of time, maybe they need to bring you guys in for builds before things are finalized for a drop. That would honestly give them much more unique, creative builds from people that actually play the game on a more frequent basis. Give you guys a time limit, or a simoleon budget limit, and then what we have at the end of that is what goes in game. It would give them time to focus on the actual nitty gritty of creating the pack/expansion. (Amazing you can blast out a house like that in under 15 minutes, as building takes me hours.)

Strangerville probably came out because EA didn’t want to keep remaking packs from previous games, and wanted to try something new to make the game more interesting.

Deli and Kayla are gamechangers. As gamechangers, they have a voice that EA will hear. as far as empty houses go, in the sims 3 there were several houses that were not furnished bc its more realistic to move into an empty ohuse in the real world so I don't mind empty builds. I think thats something the sims 4 kind of lacks that every pre-built lot is also furnished

@@momahl114 it isn't all she does at all. She is overly critical and a bit of a perfectionist, but that's just her personality. Sometimes the things she complains about are trivial and down to opinion, but she always says that that is her opinion.
However, because she is overly critical and fine combs the packs when they are released, she notices things that other simmers don't. Everyone forgets that these guys are after all just consumers like everyone else.
The team do seem to be getting a little bit lazy. I don't know the reason for that, but it's true and you can't come for her for being honest and picking them up on it.
It isn't ok to sell a twenty dollar pack that contains recycled content.
The game play is probably great, but not making a new starter build isn't really acceptable.
ellamations 33 I mean a full-on story in the pack, the world is the same size as an EP world which means they listened to us and it’s a cool, fun, and beautiful world from what I’ve seen. The objects are amazing and the bunker was creative even if they didn’t play test it. There’s a lot of creativity in this pack.

But that's not the issue. The issue here is what seems to be laziness on the team's part. Again I don't know for what reasons, but a base game home takes ten minutes (for someone who does it for a living) to build, and then two minutes to play test. If you are going off wages, they saved probably a 1/4 hour of someone's wage by skipping these two little jobs, which is a small percentage of the amount of profit this pack will make. It isn't ok, and Kayla is completely right in calling them out and addressing it.
"Look at the driveway area"....in a game with no cars. This defines The Sims 4 experience. "Look at this amazing food we prepared...it’s a shame we’re not giving you a mouth."

It's sad to see that so many people in the comments are deciding not to by the Game Pack because she's complained about the house designs. There is so much more that has come with this pack, such as the new career and mystery. I thought that the EA game changers were given the packs in advance so that they can review them?? The pack was only briefly reviewed as she spent half the video complaining about the pre-made houses.
I would much prefer the EA team to create better game play ideas and items than spending all of their time creating lavish houses. I agree sometimes their houses are a bit ridiculous (such as the Get Famous Mansion that had no toilet). However, houses that have loads of stuff in, especially the larger houses can be difficult for players with lower frame rate availability on their computers/laptops. Hence why the Sims team haven't built extravagant pre-made houses, making it available for those who don't have more powerful computers. That's the beauty of having the gallery, you can download thousands of different lots that you can pick and chose from that suit your need.
I would like to have heard her actually review the pack in it's entirety instead of putting loads of people off by making the pack seem rubbish due to her sole focus on the pre-made houses.

Have you SEEN the world. I don't think they just plopped down a flat surface, put a couple of trees on the world, then called it a day. 1) You can bulldoze the lots, and either rebuild or get a house from the gallery. 2) A whole new career 3) A whole entire story line! Just because the houses and lots aren't youtube builder standards, doesn't mean they put barely any effort in. But I do agree with you, the *expansion should be more like $10.
thats more or less my point. EA continues to pop out expansions and in order to buy them all you're essentially spending $300 on one game which is a little insane. And yes they did add a storyline and yes you can add from the gallery but the point is that you shouldn't be paying $20 for a story and expect the community to improve your game with there own builds. if you're spending money then the game should already be somewhat playable without having to edit everything. Plus for people that do play on console or play offline they don't have the luxury of using community builds so it does suck

Okay am i the only one feeling that the gameplay way of collecting evidence, pictures, etc in strangerville about 600 times better than get to work's police job? Like i literally feel like i got robbed as this 20 dollar pack is way worth it than get to work (granted get to work has way more things to do, but this pack literally feels so much smoother gameplay wise on the whole detective thing)
am i the only one feeling the military career should have been in game since sims 4 released, they are giving us a career we have had in ts3 and ts2 when they were each released. they are making us buy cut content. strangerville seems to have inspiration from ts2 strangeetown.
Ryan Brown the devs themselves said that strangeville is based on strangetown and this pack is directed towards long time sims players who remember strangetown and everything that went on in it.
yea, but get to work was released like 9 years ago. the team has clearly improved over time and released better content recently over the first few. get together and get to work are so much worse than every expansion that has come since.

I think the simplicity of the houses was done on purpose. The people that live in Strangerville are weird people! They don't care about having a nicely decorated interior, all the care about is having what's necessary to survive. At least that's my take on it, because it is the entire town that's decorated like this so it seems as if it was done on purpose.
But I do understand your frustration with the creators because it's like if they are now prioritizing quantity over quality, or just trying to milk out the money of Sims players. In the end this pack looks pretty cool, can't wait to play it :)

EA has been trying me since Sims 4 came out. There's all kinds of cut corners and cheap builds and glitches (that have been there for years, and they still haven't fixed it). EA is just about taking your money with as little effort as possible on their side.

I'm 100% sure they literally do not care about building houses or build mode at all. The see that there are people who rebuild houses and most of the players just download those. Y'all builders are technically doing their job for them and they pay you with early access and sims camp. 🤷🏽♀️
That's actually a pretty good observation. Give the builders early access so by the time it actually comes out, they have ready made houses to DL, so the people who do download lots are happy with the houses. EA really did that..such slack.

Strangerville is still one of my favorite pack in The Sims 4. I love the vibe of this town. But you are right. And the laziness you noticed is not just about this pack. For example, often creators come up with amazing stories for sims and relationships with other sims and when you start playing them it turns out that these sims technically don't even have any relationship and many other small issue that you can fixed really quickly but is not your job to fix the game by your own. You pay for that product.
To be quite honest, I don't really care about the builds in new worlds since I tend to replace them with ones from the gallery anyways. I see where you're coming from though.
Also it's really a one time play pack like jungle adventure. I'm not going to pay 20 bucks for bad builds (not the best cas items either but that's my opinion) and a game I can only play once

Jungle Adventure may be a one time play through but I do like to send my sims there to get money. and the rewards for completing the aspirations help you get even more money.
aren't most single player games just ones you play once then move on? this pack is optional which i like but you'd at least have pack-exclusive items to use even after you finish. it's not an excuse for most of these flaws but to me, playing just once isn't a big deal to me. thats just what i think tho :/

I get your complaints. But personally I consider myself a “renovator” I like to take the sims builds and redecorate the whole thing and move some internal walls around. So I have no problem with this style room for my gameplay. But this is straight up lazy. Like who releases a house like that.

Anna G. No I'm going to be paying for the story, gameplay and laptops. You can have a Sim in a whole other world do the story, I don't care about easily replaceable houses I want CAW. It might take take 20 seconds to replace the house, I want a world maker/editer.
You can't just assume everyone or even the majority of people will just get rid of the lots. Everyone plays the game uniquely and it's not a deal-breaker, but it's still not ok to recycle content in such a blatant manner.

Just thought id say, at least in Nevada (so im assuming its common in the desert-y states) the archway between a master bathroom and a master bedroom is actually quite common. I find it in most middle cost range to high cost range houses out there.

I only ever use base game houses when initially trying a new world. So EA built homes get very little use for me. I prefer to fill the worlds with my builds. So as long as all the necessary items are in the house, I'd say it's fine.
