  • True Cost of Living In Spain _ steve and Wendy calculate the costs of living in Spain for 30 days in their motorhome. It’s really cheap !!
    Having stayed in one place at Castillo de Baños for 30 nights we were amazed at how low cost it can be to live in Spain. The camping pitch was just €8.90 a night plus any electricity used which worked out at about €1.40 a day plus the LPG we used is turned out that our daily living costs were €10.66 plus food and drinks.
    Is Spain cheaper than the UK for living in a Motorohme or Caravan. You bet ya! That €11.66 worked out at less than £10 a day and I know there are not many places in the UK that we would park our motorhome for 30 days or more for that very low rate. Plus if you decide to stay for an extended period of 6 months then the camping pitch rate can be as low as €6 a night plus electric. Amazingly low cost of living in such a lovely place with great people around too.

    You have been lucky with the weather this past couple of months as its been nice and warm. The cost of living can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it depends on your lifestyle here in Spain.

      We are with comfort insurance on a Fulltime policy. Normal holiday cover is a lot less money but may allow less time in Europe - we pay £1200 a year

    The motor home cost you.
    Diesel, insurance, electric, water, parking, gas also cost.
    All before you put a bite of food into your mouth.
    €8.90 per night for a site.(a home is more than a site as you know)
    €270 per 30 day month. Not bad. I've rented cheaper, but not in Europe.
    No long term perspect in that though.

      Over the years we have found that living in a motorhome and especially in Spain is far less expensive than in the UK or in deed the rest of Europe.
      Our recent 2024 experience in Spain tells us that prices in Spain have increased but still far less expensive than the UK

    So you didn't feel the need to use heating at all since December?
    Interesting. This is consistent with the statistics I have seen...
    That's important to me since I plan on spending the next winter moto camping in the south of Spain...

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the southern part of Spain (Costa Tropical) is a reasonable temperature during the day but VERY cold over night. Had to close the windows at night on some occasions LOL. No heating needed though.

      @@TheHappyTravellers try a winter in Normandy... In an apartment with little to no heating... Then I'd bet your "very cold" will feel warm 😂 🤣 some days I have under 8°C *indoors* when I get up in the morning.

    • @donlaight5943
      @donlaight5943 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Costa del Sol winters are similar to Costa tropical. It's not so much the cold but the variance in temperature. For example a beautiful sunny 23-25 in daytime down to 9-10 at night. As a rule in uk it could be a lucky 13 in the daytime but 4-5 at night except up north of course where the real cold is. And don't I know I spent a few years near Arbroath

    • @DeuxRouesUneTente
      @DeuxRouesUneTente 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donlaight5943 that's precisely what I am expecting... The gear I have is designed to feel comfortable around 10°C at night 😀
      I am leaving in less than a month now so I'll soon test it out in real conditions 😉

    we retire at the end of this year and are planning to do something similar to this, just not sure whether to get a motorhome or caravan. I drive an LWB Renault Master as part of my work and have never towed anything so a M-home seems a natural choice but having a car will give us the independence to explore more whilst on site. any thoughts or was the M-home always your preference?

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We started off in a Caravan. What we found was that we did not use the car as much as we expected. Thinking about touring around France and Spain we considered that the availability of Aires (for motorhomes only) would be far more useful to us than a car that we might need on occasion. We switched to a motorhome in July 2017 and really have not missed the car at all. Of course the convenience of the Motorhome for us is excellent and we do have Electric Bikes which are really great but again we don’t use them that often. We have thought, and do think on occasion, that we might buy a Smart Car and Trailer but the chance of that right now is about 80/20 against :)

    My wife and I are finally taking the plunge and are looking to buy a motorhome and travel to Spain, we love the Salobrina/Motril area so Castillo de banos would be ideal as a starting point...Is there any advice you could give us to help us start our journey? we were thinking of getting the ferry from Plymouth - Santander and then driving south.

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First I’d say that you should get the All The Aires book for Spain and Portugal from Vicarious Media. Get the search for sites app on your phone. Those two things will have You sorted out for places to stay. We stayed in free aires all the way from UK through France and into Spain. We booked into rallies through MCC and the Camping and Caravan Club which makes longer term stays quite cheap.
      If you are OK to stay Off Grid (no EHU) I would invest in a sterling power dc battery to battery charger. This charges your leisure batteries while you drive from place to place.
      If you just HAVE to have UK food stuff like Tea Bags, Marmite, baked beans etc, stock up for you whole journey. You can get them in Spain but at something like 3 X the UK price.
      Driving in Spain is very easy. Note the speed limits are lower for Motorhomes than for cars. I usually cruise along at 50mph or 76kph
      One of the good things is that the toll roads in Spain are being converted to free / no charge.
      Remember to stay on the gutter side of the road (drive on the right). I found left hand turns to be a little confusing, especially when turning onto a dual carriage way.
      When are you getting your MotorHome? And when are you travelling to Spain?

    • @steviehunt
      @steviehunt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheHappyTravellers Thanks for that..Hopefully, around June/July..we have just got back from Almunecar and that made our minds up. Driving is not a problem, ( lived in Spain for a few months and always have a car when we are out there) I have just ordered the Spain and Portugal aires book and the ACSI CampingCard..will look at joining the CCC..Will also look at adding extra leisure battery and a sterling power dc battery to battery charger along with a foldaway solar system. Still not sure how Brexit will affect any plans but will cross that bridge when it comes. Great and very informative channel, keep up the good work..and hope to bump into you guys in the near future.
