I hope that you all enjoy this Legends story involving Darth Vader and the Jedi Order 66 survivor Cho’na Bene on the planet Vaklin, as found in the 2012 comic “Star Wars: Purge: The Tyrant’s Fist”. Have a great weekend everyone and thank you for another awesome week here on the channel!
good weekend as well. It is nice to see Vader being a very good leader and considering tactics so well, it really adds depth to the Empire beyond just being a shallow 'evil' entity. Great vid. B)
Exactly, I thought that it was a very interesting point for Vader, as especially in the Dark Times comics (and even in a novel like Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader), Sidious is doing all that he can to get Vader to let go of his obsession with the Jedi. It was nice to come across this one story where Vader actually did that successfully!
Thing about Legends is, there's a lot more of it. It's had decades. Disney's canon has just started. Give it time. Not all of Legends is good either. It's easy to remember the great parts we love and forget the bad parts just because of how content much there is there. So yeah, not really a fair comparison.
I found this comic issue really intriguing when I read it for the first time. It's clever, manipulative, strategic, and oh so impressive. One big thing I took from it is that Palpatine should have continued to think as a ruler, not dominating with fear alone as he advised Vader here. He knew the value of it so well early on, but then the Death Star got closer and closer to completion and he lost it. Also liked Oniye Namada quite a lot, and it would have been great to see more of her in other comics.
I felt exactly the same. I've been making my way through the comics again recently, and issue after issue is Vader hunting the Jedi down, trying to do everything he can to get his revenge (and Sidious trying to get him to do the opposite), so it was nice to see Vader have to actually accept letting one go. Of course, it wouldn't be for long and Cho'na would fall into the trap, but from Vader's point of view, the Jedi "got away" from him and his own lust for vengeance. Just an awesome story! I was disappointed to see that ISB agent Namada wasn't touched on again. To be honest, she is one of those characters that I feel could play an interesting role within the current Canon. I always welcome more ISB agents!
I disagree on that point. It seems to me that Palpatine had always intended to rule through fear, but he knew that that would only work if he had the power to strike back when someone dares to call his bluff. And right now, the new Galactic Empire was still weak, newly emerged from the Clone Wars. That's the Tarkin Doctrine, which Palpatine had always supported. The Imperial military was stripped of all the different colours painted onto the GAR's ships and armor to present the image of a cold, faceless killing machine. The Star Destroyer was favoured because its presence in the sky strikes more fear in the common populace than any number of starfighter squadrons could. The AT-AT was designed to be a towering armored behemoth to send rebel soldiers fleeing, not so much the more practical killing machine that is the AT-TE. It has always been about fear. But the new Empire was not ready for him to rule through fear ALONE. Not yet. That's why he, as he so often puts it, kept the skeleton of the Galactic Republic that is the Senate alive. The Death Star was his final solution. Vader and Thrawn both counselled against diverting too much resources away from the Imperial Navy because they knew the Death Star could only be in one place at any given moment, but Palpatine believed that once the Death Star is ready, the galaxy will not oppose his rule out of the fear of ever seeing the Death Star showing up in the sky - they would fall in line without even needing the Death Star to actually arrive. That was his belief even years before the Empire, when the Geonosians were commissioned by the Sith to design the Death Star. When the Death Star is ready, he could finally do away with the Senate. I think that in this particular scene, what Palpatine really meant by thinking as a ruler is that "the Empire is still too weak to rule through fear alone, so you need to come up with something else until it is strong enough for that, otherwise you'll just do more harm than good to the Sith"
@@JediAcolyte94 could you imagine if they actually continued to add on to Legends with the great minds that Disney chains in their bleak offices. This kind of stuff is why Star Wars Purge is so good. This shows how methodical and sinister the Empire can be. Plus this story also had Vader not only work the stormtroopers but also the ISB to bring a planet's population into the Imperial fold while accomplish a more subtle way of dealing with and eliminating a surviving Jedi.

Just typed the same thing in the comment section, my originality went down the drain lol. This should have The love child between a Protoss and General Grievous.
3:59. Yet another example of why Vader NEVER could have successfully succeeded Palpatine as emperor. Vader never mastered the art of playing the long game. His frequent difficulty in controlling his rage, made it impossible to him to seriously consider the long-term consequences of his actions, before acting on his impulses (hence, why he ended up mortally wounding his own wife). Which is why he always needed Palpatine to do his thinking for him.

I like your channel but you sometimes you seem to be missing crucial pieces of information. The place Vader and Bene fought was a pocket of highly flammable azetal gas, that would ignite if a lightsaber was ignited. Not to take away from the planned death of Bene afterwards but I think this was a big factor of not Vader not killing Bene there.
Don’t bracket things into mercy and merciless. They do whatever is most strategically beneficial for them. For example a treasonous officer who tried to assassinate sidious was going to be spared because he wanted to break his will and force his loyalty but Vader killed him anyway angering him. Sometimes sparing someone is strategical not merciful.
