Did you notice that the Renegades of the Old Castle is a direct throwback to set 6081 King's Mountain Fortress from 1990? I think the designer did an amazing job capturing the spirit of the original set. Bravo.
Usually not a fan of the whole post modern take on castles with animal faces...but that wolf castle 🏯🏰 is Epic. Hats off to that designer tremendous work. Still I think that one series 5 entry 4000 piece castle with the tower spire and rounded towers at the gate was one of the lego best castles I've ever seen. So much going on. It's really tough to "beat" that with that piece limit...but...I'm prolly gonna try.
I agree I don't usually care for the "hats" and animal faces on buildings. Just imagine how crazy this would get if there wasn't a part limit. I know they had to have struggled to bring it down to 4k pieces.
I get where you are coming from where my castle looks small, I consider it more compact. it's roughly about the same size as the Lion Knight's Castle which is a pretty sizable castle as it is.
@@clubjed6276 I had trouble making sure it wouldn't go over 4,000. There were things I had to cut like a large chandelier trap that would fall down and hit someone.
Great review! I personally love the Wizard Tower, the Outlaw Forest Den, Wolf of the Swamp, and Bandit Lord's Hideout (Yes, I too would love a Wolfpack stronghold set and a few of these fit that). I also love the Red Rose Castle and while it may be similar to the Adventures in Transylvania, I could see that being a strength as the two sets could look well next to each other on display. I watched your Medieval video as well. A few that I didn't see mentioned that I personally liked (and maybe they are covered in another video I have not watched yet) are: Woodland Hallow - I love the colors and the magical feel to it all. I could see this easily going into a fantasy medieval display where magic and fairies may reside and call home. Forest Merchant - By the same designer of Riverside Scholars in series 4, this would be a great companion piece to that (a set I will definitely be getting). This would start really fleshing out a full town that had this beautiful color scheme, a town that differentiates itself from your usual medieval looks, which to me could give a large display more of a sense of diffrerent regions. Fantasy Alpine Expedition - This one also looked unique to me in architecture and color. Again, it seems like something that could be a fantasy medieval scene or a regal home sitting above a town square. Elven Haven - This was likely done by the same person who did the Elven Palace last time, and I just love the colors and the setup. I REALLY want an elves stronghold or palace or castle to have that as another faction in a fantasy medieval display. This looks like something that elves would live in. It has a Rivendell feel, but still uniquely it's own thing. The ability to use it with a LotR display I think adds value to it. Just some of my favorites I didn't hear mentioned yet, but that I really liked a lot. I wish that I could get instructions to build some of the ones not selected as sets so I could buy the pieces and build them anyways, even if there was an instructions cost to get them.
The Red Rose and Watchtower are my top 2! I lean towards anything that I can display in either my Halloween or Christmas display. It's the only time of the year I can have a large display out with my wife's approval. 😂
Agreed. Really like buildings with a more natural look and wood inclusion, like the Witch tower. Not everything in medieval times was build in perfect smooth stone work! Now lego bring back wolf and Dragon themed Knights! (Cinder the dragon needs a master 😁)
@@Stud-Lord that would be the best outcome, well said. I was thinking also like the GWP size sets, £20-50 style ones. But maybe I’m in the minority there as I know it’s hard to beat an epic castle!
I really hope that Lion's keep, Black knight's castle, Outlaw Forest Den or Bandit lord hideout make it to the top, absolutely would buy any of those 4.
@@legobrickhammer yeah as a big castle fan I really want them. Just bought Forest Stronghold from 3rd edition. Any of those mentioned before would look brilliant side by side with stronghold.
brick knights castle is maybe the only castle set from BL that tempt me. I think the numbers they produce are too low so its not fun to try to stress over trying to get these, but that one is done particularly well.
Thank you so much, my friend for the review and your kind of your word. Really appreciate all the video and I see a lot of interesting and beautiful design. :)
Thanks for the review, I must say, I really love these sets, except of one or two. The designers are very creative. I already preordered one from the series three and I also voted for a lot of sets in the series 6. There are a ton of very nice sets. I'm very curious which one will be chosen. Love of your videos. I'm already watching the next one. Keep up the great work. Greetings from Austria
The "Abandoned Castle", has fallen into the Lego Texture Trap. It is very easy with Lego to make nice neat looking builds using few pieces, there are large bricks and panels that create big neat walls etc. Unfortunately, doing the opposite, making run down and giving texture just drains pieces, its all smaller pieces and plates and suddenly the piece count starts rising and rocketing upwards leaving you wondering where those 4000 pieces you bought have all gone to when you thought 4000 pieces would last you a lifetime, and a week later they all gone...and now you need to order another 6000.
I tried using big pieces if I could. The rocky base uses 4 MURPs and 7 rock panels. But of course I had to make them look nice, no one likes plain BURPs/MURPs.
I really like this submission phase. I see a lot of people are at least putting in 1-2-3 Wolfpack guys in their sets, even if they are not wolfpack centered sets. That's what LEGO should do if they release anything themselves. Just add Wolfpack guy or 2 like seasoning in there. The sets you showed are all really good, however I do wonder why some designers are stingy with using the great variety of minifig pieces in their lineup. The second lion knight castle - it could have used at least one of the queen's torso, and at least 2 civilian bar maids. I wonder if there is something that would make it cheaper to produce with 10 of the same minifig parts instead of 10 varied minifigs ? Or why would they opt for the least diverse option? Renegade Castle is just a good paint job of that lion knights mountain fortress (LEGO should really get on to making those remakes - and put out "rebranding" toolkints - banners, shields, specific weapons and items for each faction so you an transform all the castles to what faction you want them to be ... ) After some definitions, just a tower is a castle. Has most if not all the necessary elements. Onto my personal favorite (I do hope this one wins! ) - Wolf Swamp - it's different (There are so many castles you can put side by side without it looking tacky), it has wolfpack, and most importantly it's 2000 ish pieces. While I like some of the other castles as well, this just stands out as being a smaller set that we dearly need for castle fans who can't really afford an arm and a leg. Hope this does well. Wolfpack cathedral on lava is nice as well
Seeing many of these, it makes me want to skip BDP S3 altogether. People have really upped their game, and design-wise a lot of these are way more interesting than the Forest Stronghold IMHO.
Trust me, many including myself, feel the same way. But crowd funding morning for BL fans is like Christmas morning. No one wants to walk away empty handed so we convince ourselves to buy something. But I agree 100%. The designs of S6 has advanced a long way from that of S3
The gothic castle may be redundant but it is the standout of the full size castles IMO. Most of these are pretty lack luster compared the ones in Series 5. I do like both towers though and that wolf head just screams Medieval Legion of Doom. Those 4 are the best IMO.
I still don't understand the reason why this program exists. It are mocs, so why instead of buying these, make your own?? Less expensive and more time spend (for less money indeed). Not saying these are bad, they are very beautiful. But build something yourself people... It doesn't have to be this big or this difficult. I aint close to this level, but you get more satisfaction with your own mocs.
Don't member vikings using stone much, and certainly not for castles. Accuracy fails with vikings.. there is an opportunity to add some details and printed Norse art/Runes.
