I personally still prefer the chaotic machine but still on perfect timing that Morgan Simpson is. Charlie Wayne have a complete other style, he seems kinda influenced by Moe Tucker from the velvet underground.
Both are great drummers, i just wish that the drums weren't so loud in the mix of Snowglobes. If it was a little lower would be perfect.
The drums lack ‘feel’ - compare to someone like Jim White/ dirty three to see what I mean

I love the drums in this. They completely drown out the vocals, you keep anticipating it to join in with the guitars but they never do except for a few hits here and there, and then they just stop. It makes it sound like what Isaac is saying is just being obscured more and more even when he raises his voice, like there’s no chance for him to be heard. I absolutely love this song, possibly the best single yet. So excited for this album.
Reading this made me realiz the drums totally feel like a snowstorm to me, dunno if that’s intentional but I think it’s cool
I think their producer recorded drums with just a small amount of mics which made it sound more open.

@@cellopaddy “different for the sake of it” can’t be applicable when there is literally thematic and artistic reasoning behind the decisions being made here. Plus I think it sounds good and think the drums elevate the song emotionally, but it’s understandable if you aren’t as big a fan of it 🤷♂️

1. going into a new single completely hyped because i believe that every bcnr song is a masterpiece
2. being initially disappointed, because it's not what i expected
3. manically listening it again and again and again
4. having emotional reactions to the song that no other band could archieve
5. thinking the song is a masterpiece

every single new song has been a grower for me too, except this one. This is one instantly hit. I first heard it in the black midi, new road concert they did in december 2020.
Yep pretty much. I found this track in particular quite underwhelming when i first heard it because of how it sounded more like standard post rock than the other singles but eventually the more i listened to it, the more it slowly crept up on me and now i love it. God, this album is going to be so good.

I preordered this album on vinyl as soon as chaos space marine released, I had faith that they were going to release one of the greatest albums ever made and it looks like they’re going to do it. God I cannot wait to see them live

Bands like BC,NR are really making it a beautiful time to be a rock music fan. So sad about Isaac’s departure, truly a voice of a generation. Hopefully he finds his peace. If he comes back to the band it would be lovely. But if he doesn’t I hope he does what he needs to do to come back to himself.
Currently the best band on the planet. I totally respect Isaac leaving the band, leaving us with two masterpieces to listen to. All the best fella

This is the first new band/artist that is truly excited me. I’m still new on my musical adventure so I’m still listening to a lot of classics right now but I am going to drop everything when this album is released

Despite how amazing bands like black midi, Squid, Yard Act are sounding right now, I can’t help but feel the most excited for Black Country, New Road. I’ve never had a genuine excitement and giddiness before an album release like with Ants From Up There, hopefully I can see them perform this album live
@@aesthetic4829 Yeah, Ants From Up There is the one that I'm really, really looking forward to right now. I purchased it back when it was just made available to preorder, having not listened to any of the new songs, just trusting in BCNR to make an amazing record, and it looks like that's exactly what they'll do.
I love The Overload by Yard Act, and new albums by black midi, Dry Cleaning, Squid, etc., would be absolutely great, but so far Ants is the one that I just know I'll love the most.
FTFT kind of defined my 2021 musically, and hopefully AFUT will do the same with my 2022 :-)

@@orgasmicorange1471 I absolutely love it. I've played it multiple times every day since its release and it never gets boring; there's not a single song that makes me want to skip it. The four singles were amazing, but I wasn't prepared for (most of) the non-singles to be even better. I could write a lot about it, but basically it's a 10/10 for me too and it'll be tough to beat as the 2022 AOTY. I'm glad you like it so much as well!
I don't think I've ever heard a post rock song with drums like this. Really adds to the emotion of the track in a really unique way. They're really about to top my AOTY list two years in a row huh?

Yeah, incredibly mediocre mashup of arcade fire and post-rock, and musicians sound like they have been playing for one year only or so and have barely any knowledge of composition, can't believe the hype about this

I love how the drums come in as distant thunder and lightning, taking over the sound scape with chaos; only to give it up to arpeggios and a calm return to the beginning. Conceptual, yet beautiful.
As an old guy, I perfectly understand your reference to Peter Gabriel era Genesis. Another good reference point is 154 era Wire, especially the epic "A Touching Display." Like "Snow Globes" you don't mind the very long intros because the payoff is splendidly worth it.
