I woke up this morning the day after my 18th birthday and it was literally the first thought I had when I woke up. I wanna be a bartender. For the longest time I’ve felt like there’s nothing for me in the world. I genuinely think I’ve just found it. Every reason you just described to be a bartender is exactly what I want my life to be. Cap Cap Man, hush. Even if that was true, men make more than women in the grand scheme of things, and you’re telling someone not to bother with bartending because it’s a female-dominated field? Are women just supposed to not bother because most fields are male-dominated? Get over it.
@@capcap7456 actually studies show male bartenders/severs make more money than their female counterparts. It has also my personal experience has shown this to be true.
I'm considering going back to bar tending. I quit when I graduated and got what I considered an "adult" job. This job is soul crushing and doesn't even make me more money than bar tending.
Idk why I am even watching this since I’m only 15 but one day I woke up and was like „omg I wanna be a bartender, I like to throw stuff around and catch it“ that was almost 2-3 months ago and now I started making some mocktails for my family for 2 weeks and it’s amazing. Everyday I come home from school I make myself a mocktail. It’s the first time i actually thought about the future and I really thought about a job. When someone asked me what I wanted to do in life I always answered „something with computers“ because I love to code and stuff but when i thought about bartending it just hit me. I got a job in my local rough pub through a regular I know who knows the owner, the kind of place where by day it’s a basic local’s bar but by night becomes an absolute madness, working there was unbelievably fun, it felt like I was always a part of the party every night without drinking a drop of alcohol myself.
I was honestly waiting for another nine. Tbh I know I shouldn’t have but I’ve been bartending for my friends since four years of high school. And the drama that would come out the parties like I’m just sitting there watching it unfold. It’s hilarious especially now that I’m 21 and I see those fights were pointless just like SOME of the bar fights I’ve seen recently.

Good point Jonathon. More accurately, you can get time off for vacay as long as you get your shifts covered, but you don't get paid during that time, so you just have to save up.
Hey B.T., great question. I might be coming out with a video on this soon, as I've had this question pop up quite a bit. The answer is, in the bartending profession you do most commonly see people from the age of 21 - 40 working those jobs, but you'd be surprised by the number of older bartenders. There's simply so many different types of bars to work at. Their advantage is that they've probably been doing it awhile, but as long as you have a good background in working with people and provide good service, and you follow a plan and don't stop following up until you get your foot in the door, you'll reach your goal and from there you simply work your way up to better tipping bars. To not go after something because of age, color, looks, etc. is a limiting belief that strangles a lot of dreams. I would suggest not letting it strangle your ambitions either, B.T. Best of luck. as much as i love your other videos and I am learning a lot, "kick-ass" reasons to pick any job so you can get laid and live like a morally corrupt rock start is not sound advice. In fact, it should sound as a warning to the other good-minded bartenders that there will be temptations to cheat, take drugs, do something illegal, etc .... but nothing feels better than going home after your shift with a healthy mind and a clear conscience.

Had a really good laugh thinking all the things ive seen working in bars 🤣 i would definetly buy your memoir!! My family almost thinks im a liair when I explain what the barmaid/man lifestyle is like (in great establishements). Sound too fun, too good, to extravagant to be true for regular office people. They also don't understand the hardships of it all. Being tired but putting on a mask and acting. Tolerating discriminating jokes and as I like to say "prostituting my personnality for money". Not to long ago started watching your videos , but bartender course was actually one of my fears wasn’t really sure to take it or not why because I was afraid but then I finally decided to take it and went to class and all tbh it was pretty fun and felt good about myself and now I got my certificate !!!!! Plenty of part time bartenders out there Tyler. In fact, I would say there are a lot more part timers than full timers. Bars need to hire for all sorts of schedules and hours so you'd probably fit right in. Best of luck.
Many places I've looked at have a requirement that you have to be a server first. Is there a way to work around that or should I just focus on places that let you start bartending immediately? Thanks for any advice!
I just became a bartender at my restaurant (Bahama breeze) about two months ago and my path to bartender was being a server first for about a year and 5 months. It’s not required but it will def help your overall knowledge. Makes the transition easier. But if you are given an opportunity you bartend without experience you should 100% do it and become the man. Learn all you can. Either way you should make it happen if that’s your goal
Hey Mr. No One, right off the bat I see what looks like an English pound sign next to that 10, and I am certaily not an expert on how much bartenders make anywhere outside the US. late to the party but as a veteran british bartender, the money is really not there right now outside of the more high end venues in london etc. Pay is getting better but since only US bartenders are the ones getting tips etc the pay doesnt really compute

Question: I look up on google and it says there are no qualifications for bartending but bartending school is recommended. Is bartending school a waste of time? Also in case it matters, I live in Australia
Hey Adrian, no school or course is a waste of time as long as it gets you where you want to go. In my opinion, bartending schools do a good job (for the most part) teaching the skills, but they are incompetent at helping you actually get the job, which is the most important part, because you can learn on the job better than any school can teach you.
All the things you say only apply in the states, the only things I agree is the social skills, everything else is completely false 1 terrible money, 2 the people you meet don't care about you, hook ups don't happen really, it's a myth that the bartender gets laid it doesn't, becoming more attractive is short lived people are nice to you cause they want free drinks, jobs everywhere around the world not really unless you speak the language of the country you are going to but even if you do it's really hard to find jobs and the money it's really shit, here in Europe a bartender even with a lot of experience makes 1500 euro's a month if he is lucky, not a desk job, why would a desk job be bad, if you work 9 to 5 you get better life balance and better sleep, as far as friendship goes you can make friends anywhere, but maybe in a bar you meet more people so it gives the impression that you are making friends, I have worked in bars for over 15 years and I have not made 1 single friend, and don't have a penny on the side, given the chance to go back in time I would'n do it, So to all the young people out there DON'T DO IT, unless you are doing it to pay your school. You are correct, this video was made based on my experience of bartending and working with bartenders in the U.S. I have no experience bartending outside the U.S. so I'll have to take your word for it, despite the fact that it was all a bit "Debbie-Downer-ish". i think the video is definitely true in the US, I'm just doing it to pay off school, but the thing is, maybe half of my coworkers have degrees, some from prestigious universities, and still choose to bartend over getting a job that they educated themselves for.
I totally agreed of every single word from Mr. Francesco , only us and some European country has might be these benefits but man take a look around the world of different country Bartender's situation, it's terrible i bet you don't know about it, might be you haven't seen the condition of Bartender of Asian countries like India, Dubai ,Indonesia , filipino, etc. The worst and the guests from this country are extra extra rude you can't imagine that we have experienced, however i would like to extend my words on your points the true picture of this industry 1 money , guest they usually left from the bar n restaurant without pay n happening like normal ,and who is gonna pay of course us the debits from our salary which is already low . 2 friends with guests ok fine but they're still your guests , with coworkers yeah but on temporary basis once they move to another company then abandoned 3 i don't know why people are thinking bad about 9-5 , you know in my country you got lucky if you have 9-5 seriously , they are giving bribes for this desks jobs and seriously guys life should be balance not like this industry you always end up with abused and depressed 4 - hooks up ,ok you have to stand and stay focused around the drunken guests until they finish their drink and ask for repeat or next order hell fuck you are not personal servent for these fucking guests they do think they are fucking king 5 some guests are really nice but you can't only rely on them you have to go another table as well I am flair bartender sir , nobody cares about your flairing ,how hard work you do , the shit you're dealing with , even i am in the world leading brand HILTON ,of course you would know about the brand . Guests come and if are not happy they complain to your manager ,Gm and next day you will get bamboo ,warning letter , threatening because they know owner and G.M of your company doesn't matter even if you're doing great . Grass always look greener on another side Maybe you watch the bartenders in Tom cruze movie or where else but it's not just the same , it's fantasy believe me it's not cool , you have to pay heavy cost for this job, but i have seen even experienced another profession they don't do this shit and flexible and balanced life they meet on weekends and go to parties or whatever after duty beacuse they fixed duty hours but here you're like an owl and servant , which is obviously not worth , Now i know some people will say how negative you are but to be honest it's true I have seen my coworker's conditions and even on good position they all are want to switch their job but can't and if you want to come in this industry i would like to say just try it like take vocational training of month or few weeks take analyse then decide to spend money on instituional courses , And sorry about this Mr. I respect your video i know how hard you worked to find these all contents , but appreciated

Hey Mr. No One, right off the bat I see what looks like an English pound sign next to that 10, and I am certaily not an expert on how much bartenders make anywhere outside the US. late to the party but as a veteran british bartender, the money is really not there right now outside of the more high end venues in london etc. Pay is getting better but since only US bartenders are the ones getting tips etc the pay doesnt really compute

Question: I look up on google and it says there are no qualifications for bartending but bartending school is recommended. Is bartending school a waste of time? Also in case it matters, I live in Australia
Hey Adrian, no school or course is a waste of time as long as it gets you where you want to go. In my opinion, bartending schools do a good job (for the most part) teaching the skills, but they are incompetent at helping you actually get the job, which is the most important part, because you can learn on the job better than any school can teach you.

All the things you say only apply in the states,
the only things I agree is the social skills, everything else is completely false
1 terrible money, 2 the people you meet don't care about you, hook ups don't happen really, it's a myth that the bartender gets laid it doesn't, becoming more attractive is short lived people are nice to you cause they want free drinks, jobs everywhere around the world not really unless you speak the language of the country you are going to but even if you do it's really hard to find jobs and the money it's really shit, here in Europe a bartender even with a lot of experience makes 1500 euro's a month if he is lucky, not a desk job, why would a desk job be bad, if you work 9 to 5 you get better life balance and better sleep, as far as friendship goes you can make friends anywhere, but maybe in a bar you meet more people so it gives the impression that you are making friends, I have worked in bars for over 15 years and I have not made 1 single friend, and don't have a penny on the side, given the chance to go back in time I would'n do it,
So to all the young people out there DON'T DO IT, unless you are doing it to pay your school.

Thanks for the feedback Francesco. You are correct, this video was made based on my experience of bartending and working with bartenders in the U.S. I have no experience bartending outside the U.S. so I'll have to take your word for it, despite the fact that it was all a bit "Debbie-Downer-ish".

i think the video is definitely true in the US, I'm just doing it to pay off school, but the thing is, maybe half of my coworkers have degrees, some from prestigious universities, and still choose to bartend over getting a job that they educated themselves for.
I totally agreed of every single word from Mr. Francesco , only us and some European country has might be these benefits but man take a look around the world of different country Bartender's situation, it's terrible i bet you don't know about it, might be you haven't seen the condition of Bartender of Asian countries like India, Dubai ,Indonesia , filipino, etc. The worst and the guests from this country are extra extra rude you can't imagine that we have experienced, however i would like to extend my words on your points the true picture of this industry
1 money , guest they usually left from the bar n restaurant without pay n happening like normal ,and who is gonna pay of course us the debits from our salary which is already low .
2 friends with guests ok fine but they're still your guests , with coworkers yeah but on temporary basis once they move to another company then abandoned
3 i don't know why people are thinking bad about 9-5 , you know in my country you got lucky if you have 9-5 seriously , they are giving bribes for this desks jobs and seriously guys life should be balance not like this industry you always end up with abused and depressed
4 - hooks up ,ok you have to stand and stay focused around the drunken guests until they finish their drink and ask for repeat or next order hell fuck you are not personal servent for these fucking guests they do think they are fucking king
5 some guests are really nice but you can't only rely on them you have to go another table as well
I am flair bartender sir , nobody cares about your flairing ,how hard work you do , the shit you're dealing with , even i am in the world leading brand HILTON ,of course you would know about the brand .
Guests come and if are not happy they complain to your manager ,Gm and next day you will get bamboo ,warning letter , threatening because they know owner and G.M of your company doesn't matter even if you're doing great .

Maybe you watch the bartenders in Tom cruze movie or where else but it's not just the same , it's fantasy believe me it's not cool , you have to pay heavy cost for this job, but i have seen even experienced another profession they don't do this shit and flexible and balanced life they meet on weekends and go to parties or whatever after duty beacuse they fixed duty hours but here you're like an owl and servant , which is obviously not worth ,

I have seen my coworker's conditions and even on good position they all are want to switch their job but can't and if you want to come in this industry i would like to say just try it like take vocational training of month or few weeks take analyse then decide to spend money on instituional courses ,

Right. I was just sitting enjoying this video, taking it all in and agreeing with all the reasons. But then at 5:26 I started questioning everything. That stock footage of the guy typing... That's the second worst attempt at pretending to use a keyboard I've ever seen. I mean for a start the monitor isn't even on. He keeps tapping some bogus keys that wouldn't mean anything like "lklllpo" with only two fingers and without looking. He's touch typing bogus. AND THEN... HE PRETENDS TO USE A TRACK PAD! A PRETEND TRACK PAD THAT ISN'T EVEN THERE! LIKE AT LEAST WHEN HE WAS PRETENDING TO TYPE HE HAD A REAL KEYBOARD! THIS GUY IS SLIDING HIS FINGER ALL ABOUT THE DESK! D: I'm so triggered.
