    This is by far the best sounding guitar he has. And Pete has a lot of guitars

      My Destroyer is my favorite Guitar, hands down. Waited six years, to find the one I wanted. Three double humbuckers... all DiMarzio's. Those were stock, from the factory.

    I bought the Rocket Roll Ibanez Flying V around 1978...and I was dumb enough to sell it some years later...I still regret that to this day! Those guitars are pretty valuable nowadays...

      Same thing brother, but I bought the Explorer one like Pete is using here. For some stupid reason I didn't like how it looked at the time so sanded it down etc. I did some dumbass things when I was younger and that was one of them.

    My 75 Ibanez les paul custom is really good. 48 years old and plays like a dream. Solid. Perfect binding, nothing coming unglued. Unlike Gibson.

    That is the best Explorer I have ever heard. Even with dead strings it sounds like THAT. Incredible.

    I’m currently in possession of a’75 Ibanez Rocket Roll V (the sister guitar to this Destroyer), it is everything Pete said about his guitar- beautiful neck, light and resonant ash body, and the stock super 70 pickups are amazing. Unfortunately it’s worth more than I can afford to pay, I just gave it a setup and am helping to sell it for a friend. I’m going to go plug it in right now!

    wt? I did not expect that thing to sound sound so pristine and beefy! Thick but every note just ringing out in those chords! My buddy had a Destroyer and i remember it being muddy but not this one, wow!

    • @curtisboswell2619
      @curtisboswell2619 ปีที่แล้ว

      May not have been the guitar at all though. Sometimes it's the amp, sometimes the pedal and guitar not playing well together, and hell, sometimes it's even a patch cable! Other times, if it IS the guitar, it can be a pickup that needs more signal isolation, or a pot that's "off".... This is where a good guitar tech, is worth his (or her...) weight in gold. They can listen to tone, and many times they can at least get started in the right area, to run down a buzz, or bottom end mud in guitar tone.

      @elevenAD ปีที่แล้ว

      @@curtisboswell2619 we were really just kids then, 24 or 25 with zero tech knowledge, now i would have just dropped in a set of 36anniversaries and called it a day, would have cleared that guitar right up but it was a different time and he unfortunately sold the guitar, that thing was mint!

    I considered buying one when they were in production. I think that they were $400 US in 1977. I still have the little catalog that Ibanez put out for the Destroyer and Rocket Roll Sr. with Cub Coda in it.

    What a great story, a lot of these guitars we grew up with are coming up for sale from original owners, those really belong to the next person who will cherish it for years and not let these stores/companies buy them only to sell for crazy prices

  • @philmarsh4614

    I bought one in the late 70’. It was in a music shop above the front as you walked in. I don’t what made me turn around but it was love at first sight. At the time I didn’t know it was a copy. It turns out it was best and only guitar for me until the bass player knocked it off the table and snapped the neck right off. It was like I lost my best friend. Never played as good again. Still effect’s me to this day. I have a Gibson explore now. Ps the picks were no good. They need good PAF’s in e’m:)

  • @artistx76
    @artistx76 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks to ed i have found my sound and his. super 70s pickups tuned 14 cents flat. Running through an evh combo. Apparently his tech mentioned he used tempered tuning. Or as ed put it tuned to itself. If you listen close his first album is clean. But has alot of sustain which gives the ability to tap. Which ed learned from Jimmy page. And Jimmy page uses a tone bender to allow his telecaster or paul to sustain and ring out. Go watch jimmy on the movie it might get loud demo his pedal and watch how he strums and it just growls and adds his sustain. Which turned his telecaster into a fire breathing dragon. Before he got his les paul and Marshall amps. Also they bought used echoplex or tape echos to add to long ringing notes. Its the sum of all parts. In a studio we all chase. But make the mistake chasing gear they use live and then scratch our heads why it doesn't sound like the album's.

    Best part about living in the land of the rising sun on and off for the last couple decades.... so many guitars not enough time LOL. I think there are better gems looking around the smaller thrift stores in the small cities and towns of Japan rather than in Tokyo. I only have Japanese guitars, some from the 80s (1984 Fernades RST 50, 1984 Yamaha STX01R), some from the early 90s (Fender Japan TL52 Tele ) and some from the late 90s (1999 Burny RLC and a 1999 Epiphone Japan SG70) amongst others. 👍🏻😎

    These are the guitars I started collecting in the 80’s When no one wanted them! If you like the guitar, you may like the bass guitar version of it. Good luck finding one today. But you can google a picture! Ibanez destroyer bass!! This guitar is nice but has incorrect knobs, bridge and as mentioned pickups were replaced😢the nut my be, but doesn’t look original too

    I ask the question,
    Did EVH steal Ace Frehley's Ibanez Destroyer that "disappeared" in the late 70's?
    Did Gene Simmons "give" EVH the guitar when he was trying to sign him around that same time?
    I've been asking the question for years, it's looks like Peter Thorn is on to something...lol
