I would like to make 1 edit to what you said in the video the 1980s Game Crash only happened in the US and Canada. The European companies like Ocean continued going strong into the 90s and the only reason Sinclair stopped making Spectrum's was because they were bought out by IBM, who then used the Spectrum to create the 486 processor.

I’m a Xbox gamer and they practically killed themselves by not making quality games hell 343 could have had a quality hell divers version of Halo ODST but decided to can it. They are falling apart. And as a person who grew to love Xbox it’s a shame in a year from now I’m switching to pc and going full steam. As for PlayStation fuck PlayStation with their hell divers 2 bs by asking for players in countries without access to PSN to make a PSN Account despite being unable to and essentially cutting those countries off from playing hell divers 2 I can’t honestly wait for Sony and Xbox to either fix themselves or go broke. And at this rate PS will keep shooting itself in the foot inevitably due towards their Exclusivity just like Xbox
The only way Games Workshop is going to win the community back is by mass layoffs of everyone from the CEOs to the workers who were diversity hires and have all this other woke bulshit, and then multiple years of commitments to lowering prices as well as endorsing and paying those who do fan animations

Another problem that heavily damaged Square’s profits was the fallout from their dumbass CEO burning piles of money chasing industry trends like live service narrative games, battle royals, and NFT projects. That company would’ve gone bankrupt in the last few years if they couldn’t heavily lean on CBU3’s FFXIV and XVI
They also released like a zillion smaller games that did awful. FF7 and 16 are their lifelines.
Theyre probably the two best action games I’ve played in like a decade to be fair. I PRAY they can keep pumping out quality like this. 16 is hype as hell and Rebirth is BRUTALLY hard on hard. Some bosses take like 15 minutes to beat and can party wipe you in like 2 hits.
So damn fun!! Glad more people will be able to play.

FF16 is still a net loss for them that was heavily subsidized by Sony. They don't expect for it to be profitable until the end of this fiscal year.
SE has the problem that they converted the FF franchise to be more marketable to the West while leaving the DQ franchise for Japan. And it's backfiring spectacularly.

Good on it for what? It had already been doing multiplatform releases for the majority of its games. The company's woes are not due to exclusivity but because it puts out so many terrible products that tank and which 16 and 7 rebirth couldn't possibly perform well enough to compensate for. Flopspoken was a day 1 PC release. How did it do? Simple thinkers reduce it all to console exclusivity. It has its own DEI hires in the form of its CMs and localisation staff which it has yet to get rid of.
Nintendo meanwhile is watching the whole industry fall apart knowing that video game crash is on horizon

the whole reason I don't play more square enix games is they are usually sony exclusives. that being said, the few new releases they do have on steam are priced outrageously to me. I'm sorry, I'm not paying $60 for Octopath Traveler.
Seriously, this. The only thing stopping me from buying more of their games is how horribly, weirdly uncompetitive their pricing has become. I get wanting more money, but the higher prices haven't caused me to pay more for their games, it's just caused me to stop playing their games entirely and thus get none of my money.
If they priced their games more like Capcom, for example, Squeenix totally would have gotten more of my money by now. Instead, their interesting games sit eternally unbought on my Steam wishlist, with every sale just reminding me the prices still haven't gone down enough. Launch prices are one thing, but their multi-year-old games should really be more marked down by now.

Yeah. From personal experience, unionizing doesn't solve a lot. If anything, it creates more bureaucratic barriers, but that's just my experience in my country. Somewhere else it could work
GW overcharging and greedily raising prices is something that they've always been known for. Back in the early 2000s I had a couple friends that worked in a GW store. They got a huge employee discount but apparently GW *still* made a profit off of the things their employees bought. They told me that whenever anyone was getting ready to quit they would buy as much merchandise as they possibly could while they still had their discount because once it was gone they'd never be buying anything from GW again.
Back then GW could get away with it because of how much they dominated the tabletop war game scene. These days, thogh, GW can't even pretend to be the only game in town anymore since plenty of other tabletop miniature games have cropped up. That's also the reason they can't justify their high prices by claiming high production costs or that their products are just super high quality, since there are plenty of competitors that sell quality miniature box sets at half the price of what GW would charge. To be honest, the only thing keeping a lot of people loyal to GW is the setting and lore of 40k, so if GW throws all that away I can't really see them surviving as a company.
They overhire then have to have layoffs but now they're full of protected classes so of course they're gonna start shedding the competent in favor of quota hires.
The CPA’ification of gaming has pushed the industry off the cliff. The industry used to be run by private companies whose leadership were gamers themselves who cared about the games and made games they themselves wanted to play. Now the industry is run by CEOs/CFOs and accountants who don’t play games, their only focus is to maximize shareholder value. Once these gaming companies started goin public or selling to mega corporations, the people in charge were no longer people playing the games, they didn’t care about the product, the only focus was on money. This is why quality dipped, live service purple dragon was being chased by everyone; and the everyday customer suffered.
I agree. Gaming was always a business, but it lost its heart and soul when it quit being run by people who wanted to make games for a living in favor of people who couldn't care less about anything but profits.
Really, I'd say this is essentially the problem with capitalism as a whole. It only works right when profits are part of the motive rather than the one and only concern.

I have always been a Sony fanboy until recent years when I saw everything went woke. But nothing made me abandon Sony like Stellar blade censorship. That rubbed me the wrong way. I'm a Playstation 5 player. I also have the OLED switch and Xbox one S. I happy that square Enix is going to make their future games multi platform. I love playing helldivers 2 on my PS5 but I wish it would be available on xbox so my Halo friends can play with me, I have made some pc helldivers 2 friends.

The thing that Square Enix doesn't get is that these games can BE SMALLER. There is SO. MUCH. BLOAT. in these new FF7 games.
People really play them for the story. I bet you that 50% of players don't participate in the extra little mini games at ALL if they don't have to. Square's stories are already perfectly fine. If they would just make LESS in the game and make the game faster, they'd perform better.
I didn't mind *SOME* of the Remake side content, specifically what helps build and flesh out the world of Gaia and the city of Midgar, but yeah, it didn't need to be nearly so big.
Could have definitely done without Andrea and the gay dance sequence.
Mini games are pretty cool though, I enjoyed most of them. Chocobo Racing could’ve been its own game, and there’s some INSANE soundtracks.

I'm not for making the games smaller in general. Not at all. But I do agree that they could cut out the minigames and in that one specific case, less would be more. And that's simply because side minigames, more often than not, kinda suck in basically all jRPGs ever. Hooray for content I say unless it's bad, and minigames are usually bad content. Sometimes they're okay at best, but they're never the highlight of any game ever.

GW would need to wipe out the whole female custodes thing alltogether, make the custodes viable in the game (refresh their rules and improve their stats etc), as well as keep this woke shit OUT OF THEIR GAME. Ff16 was more like a DMC clone than a FF game. If you blur the line between jrpg rpg and action games you will have mixed results. And of course if you limit the games on Ps4-5 only you adress a 30 to 40 % of total gamers.

@@silasreef5926 Look into the fan-game "Chapter Master". It had a lot of players when it released (half-baked, filled with bugs) and it was abandoned by its dev. But if it was made for real, it would be a huge hit. Its game design even today, doesn't exist today (no victory condition, just lasting the furthest in the grim dark future)
Gamers want a beginning, middle and end to each game - It's simple. You start an adventure, defeat the boss and move to the next game. DLC works sometimes, but an endless sea of DLC is garbage (Most games). Developers and publishers have destroyed that concept, therefore destroyed interest in AAA title games. Endless, irritating updates, endless micro transactions and most abhorrently, launching unfinished titles and "patching later." All three of these acts obliterated the nostalgia, enjoyment and value of the media. The icing on the cake is the absence of collectability - The tactile, physical-media-connection made at the store, gone. The "I can't wait to play this" replaced by instant gratification with the digital copy absolutely cheapens the experience. Making board games, digitized "isn't the same" and digital copies of video games, that you can't ever really own forever, (since the threat of "no longer supporting this title" looms with every purchase) isn't the same. Why buy something and invest time and emotion (let's face it) into it and have it "no longer supported?" They changed it, they broke it and now the Lefty Lunatics are injecting their garbage values into every story, every character...Most people are sick of it all. The industry is a dumpster fire.

Most of the job cuts were studios bough up and then cut when times got hard(i.e. CEO didn't want a pay cut because of their failures). On the GW stuff that would include a few PC games and then the when/how of the Amazon deal factors in could be making a difference as well.
GW are growing the market for 3D printers out there, and killing their own product.

Personally I hate how obsessed with graphics video games are instead of aesthetics. There's a reason other than nostalgia for simpler looking games to be successful. They usually look good. Not "oh my god this looks like the latest bullshit movie Marvel put out" but just good. Clean, easy to look at, easy to understand and functional. Pushing graphics too far is just useless bling and bloat. Nintendo often wins on this one.
FF16 and the FF7 ongoing collection are cool but I do think a lot of it looks busy and overdesigned with way too many particles. They look better than Forespoken but they follow the same trend of putting a bunch of junk effects on the screen at fast rates.
I much prefer the more focused look that the PS2 era gave us with games like God of War, FF12 and Silent Hill 3. They looked good and the hardware limitations forced them to look cleaner.
If FF7 Rebirth was on PS4 and other less powerful plataforms it would have done better and wouldn't sacrifice much of the looks anyway, even though I would prefer it to look cleaner.

I advocate for an audit of triple a spending, because we've been constantly told that video game development is expensive, but we're never time what that money is being spent on. At this point i fail to see how video game development wouldn't be money laundering. Audit triple a gaming.

I got NO SYMPATHY for square enix. They brought this onto themselves with the entire FF7 remake debacle. They put out their most beloved IP in a remastered fashion and then broke up the story and experience with mandatory console purchases. I even bought a ps4 for the release…..We won’t be getting the last part of final fantasy 7 remake until the PS6 comes out….
This was THE very first jrpg I ever played and LOVED IT! Loved it…

The reality is, this generation, I haven't seen many exclusives that really grabbed me outside of Nintendo Switch, and that's kind of sad. I have other consoles too, barely play them other than the Switch and the PC.
I bought and read every Horus Heresy book, and instantly dropped Warhammer 40K when they showed that aren’t protective of their IP & its lore, it’s meaningless to them & they only want money.
So fuck Warhammer 40K going forward, I’ll stick to the old stuff they have and never give them a cent moving forward.

i think you underestimate how hard whales will go for Warhammer stuff unfortunately, it feels like thats the main market for GW, the whales and people getting in to the hobby before burning them out. Just my thoughts on it
Another big problem with the decline in video game sales is that the price for Games is only going up. I remember my first preorder for a game being $50 US back in 2008 now its $70-80. The Value of Money is also on a steady decline, so people are making less to spend more. Which results in people having to choose which games they want to spend money on. Used to be me and my brother-in-law would make a list of games we both wanted, we share our consoles, me being the Xbox guy, him the PlayStation, since 2014 the lists have gotten smaller because we had to budget money for more important things than gaming and we couldn't afford to spend $500 on video games a year
I wonder how much of square's problem is due to their newer games costing $70. I rarely buy games at $60 cause of back log, and now even if I wait for a 50% off sale the price is still 35. I end up waiting for 60% or higher sales for games that are $70 😂
I remember when you said Xbox's competition was important. When Sony has no natural threat in the AAA-capable console game, they'll treat their players even worse. The players can't keep them in check alone. We need companies to one-up each other.

The way the gaming space SHOULD work is all games should release on all platforms, the incentive should be what the platform has to offer! As a consumer I should be able to buy game x on any platform, but the thing that brings me to that platform should be "which one of these systems is easiest for me to operate/ has the most bells and whistles for my buck?"
Exclusivity does nothing but cut off entertainment from people who either chose wrong I. The eyes of the corporation or who can't afford multiple devices
Games these days are more expensive with worse gameplay, story and often even have worse graphics all the while being far more expensive.
Why? DEI hiring practices which resulted in not only overstaffing but a deluge of incompetence. Reap what you sow.

I remember back in the early 1980s and the good old days of the ZX Spectrum. Full price games, effectively the equivalent of a AAA game, were GBP 9.99 with budget games selling at 5.99. Now you're paying around GBP 50 plus for games, very few of which are actually worth the money.
