    In this video I review the beautiful work of art of a pencil, the Faber-Castell Tk-Fine Vario L mechanical pencil.
    I swear I feel like a king when I write with this beautifully crafted work of art. This is the first pencil I've owned that is actually longer than my Pentel GraphGear 1000 and also to be completely honest this is the nicest pencil that I have ever owned. That being said, it's not the best. This pencil has a lovely, ribbed-chrome grip that tapers in towards the tip and then flares out at the bottom. Now that may look nice but when it comes to functionality, it's ergonomically incorrect, or to be more accurate, ergonomically unacceptable. Many critics will probably agree that the sleek untextured grip on the Tk-Fine Vario L is one of the worst, if not the worst. Now having said that, I don't regret buying this pencil. I would do it all over again. Now why do I say that, well what I look for in a mechanical pencil is aesthetics, it won't break on me, and well that's about it. Fortunately, ergonomics doesn't make my list when it comes to buying a mechanical pencil. The pencil has a hexagon-shaped barrel which is classic Faber-Castell dark green in color and is made of plastic. The chrome metal grip is round. We also have a very attractive stiff chrome metal clip. Now since this pencil has a mostly metal front build and mostly plastic back build, it is front heavy. The front heavy design should somewhat help its untextured sleek grip. Costing about $25, some may not like its fixed lead sleeve and non full metal build; and the cartridge that holds the eraser looks cheap and doesn't match the beautiful glossy high quality plastic of the barrel. However, it does have a lead grade indicator and a crazy long twist-style drafting size eraser. In closing, if you fancy its classy look, but just can't stand its grip and you don't mind sacrificing a little class, the Tk-Fine Executive may be a better choice for you, but not me.

    Interesting Fact, i have excatly the same model, and depending on the mm version you buy, the degree indicator will come on a color. for example, yours is brown, mine that is 0.7 is color blue, the one that is 1.0 is orange, so you can play on selecting the color and mm

    I just wish the sleeve was retractable on this one. I really dig the looks. That grip section is awesome

      Yes, I really love the looks of it too. It's a beautiful pencil. Wish mine didn't have to break. I still might buy another one though.

    I have this pencil and quite frankly I'm amazed how it works. Can someone explain how it's possible with one 0,5mm lead having different softness and hardness of the pencil? Actually, I've tried it and you can tell difference, but how? :-)

    I would prefer
    Faber Castell TK Fine Executive prior to Vario
    Reason:
    1 Retractable
    2 Plastic Grip for long draft writing
    I have no idea why it went off market.
    Any feedback.

    is it senstive ? i want to 0.7 cause i usually broke my leads. i m writing hard and i wanna write just writing not drawing. Should i buy this u think ?

    • @PhantomDrawing
      @PhantomDrawing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Emre taşkın The general consensus is usually if you are an artist go with a 0.5 and if you are a writer go with a 0.7. However, there are stronger leads out there like Pentel Ain Stein and Uni NanoDia which you can find on Amazon or JetPens and they happen to be available in a heap of lead sizes.

    Does turning the lead selector/indicator thing do anything?

    • @PhantomDrawing
      @PhantomDrawing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ogoregen It's basically there if you decide to put a different lead type other than the standard HB that comes in the pencil. This feature is most useful if you have multiple pencils with a different lead type in each.

    what the soft/hard with arrows mean

    • @PhantomDrawing
      @PhantomDrawing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +KickInTheAss It's basically a feature for setting the writing experience. The hard setting allows less play in the lead sleeve. While the soft setting allows more play and slight springiness so I'm told. I honestly can't tell the difference between the two. I think an avid heavy handed writer would be able to recognize the difference between the two modes.

  • @musaduman8248

    nice review but im not into this pen anymore first of all "never drop it" cuz when it drops its nib is bent and u cant take any leads cuz of bent and believe me its quite hard to find balance
    2nd is it slips from ur hand if ur hand get sweaty
    3rd thing is its not good for writing more than 10 minutes ur hand hurts,
    4th thing is after longer usage that shiny metal part for grip gets darker,
    5th thing is that lead indicator behind of nib doesnt turn cuz of dirt and after a while it drops and well, u lost it )
    6th thing is u cant turn around the pencil cuz its mass center is on the grip part because that part is metal and other parts excluding mechanism is plastic so its quite hard to play with it
    nevertheless i use this pencil for 3 years without any mechanism problems and im about to promote new rotring "the legend" 600 chrome for less than 20$ )))
