    When it comes to drawing, you wont gain much benefits using a Kuru Toga mechanical pencil. It's not terrible and certainly you can use it for drawing, but the reason I say this is because, you are going to need a diagonal-sharpened lead when you do shading. Also, the lead doesn't always turn arround itself depending from which angle you do your strokes and lines, meaning the lead doesn't always stay sharp.

    I have owned both the Kuru Toga Advance and DelGuard Standard.
    1. Looks. Here the Kuru Toga Advance wins, because it simply looks more stylish, with its metallic clip, multi-hole eraser cover and reflective white pencil body. The "rotating logo" of the Kuru Toga is also really cool.
    2. Use. (with 4B lead) I must say, if "unbreakable" is important to you, go for the DelGuard. I have used it for pages upon pages of writing, and it only breaks if I use the lead with 3 clicks. With 2 clicks, I have barely had any lead breakage at all! I cannot say the same for the Kuru Toga, as it does NOT prevent lead breakage, and when the lead breaks, multiple pieces of it get stuck in the pencil tip, and I have to open up the tip to remove the debris - NOT a pretty sight if you are midway in a business discussion.
    3. Price. The DelGuard is cheaper in my country, so DelGuard wins.
    Both a great pencils - a much better choice than going back to ink pens, in my humble opinion - and between the Kuru Toga and DelGuard, I would choose... DELGUARD.

    Being a pencil fan, I have a good number of fancy mechanical pencils including some Rotrings, Faber Castells, and indeed Uni Kuru Toga. Although I love the Rotring 600 and 800+, my hand always looks for my ultimate favorite pencil, Zebra Del Guard. It's extremely comfortable to write with. It's an engineering marvel. By the way, as mentioned in the video, Kuru Toga has a weird feeling while writing. Although its idea is great, the feeling is kind of disturbing. Whenever I try to use it, after a while I get uncomfortable with that feeling and grab another pencil.

    • @pengweng6662
      @pengweng6662 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Huh, I’m kind of reversed. I love the Uni Kuru Toga, and I feel more comfortable with it in hand. But perhaps I’m just biased, as my first mechanical pencil given to me as a gift was a Uni Kuru Toga. Also, I can’t say much about the Zebra Del Guard, as mine was stolen about three months after I got it. :(
      However, even during the short time I used the Del Guard, I always somehow found myself with my Kuru Toga in hand. Oh well. I guess we can just agree to disagree, haha.

    • @murat_O7_x
      @murat_O7_x 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      As a matter of fact, most comments agree with you. If I had one Uni Kuru Toga, I would say maybe my Toga is somehow broken but I have two, .5 and .7, I feel the same for both of them. The problem is that when I'm writing, from time to time it gets slightly loose obviously because of the spinning and it also sounds creaky to me... Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys their pencil.

    • @pengweng6662
      @pengweng6662 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Murat Ak Huh. Perhaps you bought it from and illegitimate seller? Mine works perfectly, and has for at least two years now. Maybe that’s just you though. If you bought both of them from the same place, it might really be from their supply. I personally have gotten a knock off Kuru Toga from a store, and now prefer not to buy over-the-counter pencils, without their packaging. But if you’ve bought them separately, it could just be your opinion. Anyway, sorry for being so defensive over Kuru Toga. I’ve just used this pencil for a really long time, and am rather fond of it. Thanks for being really nice and polite about it, unlike some other people I’ve seen on the internet. Then again, I’d assume that people on a video about pencils would be more polite, haha.

      I find the Kuru Toga's with the clear window (standard, pipe slide...) have way more wiggle/movement to them than the roulette. I didn't like the feel of the pipe slide at all, but I love the roulette. If you haven't tried the roulette yet, try it before giving up on Kuru Toga.

    I have both, and I Love the Uni Kuru Toga. I don't often break lead, but I am annoyed by having to frequently turn the pencil around to even the angle of wear on the tip. The Kuru Toga is my go-to pencil when I want to make notes or jot down my thoughts. The DelGuard is a brilliant design, and a good pencil, but having to continually turn it around still annoys me. The only thing that would make the Kuru Toga perfect was if it had a lead advance switch on the shaft where my thumb rests so that I wouldn't have to move my hand at all while writing to advance the lead.

    Lead breakage is not an issue if you up-size the lead. I am heavy handed and have a 0.7 Standard Kuru Toga that I LOVE TO BITS. I've never once broke its lead while writing. I bought it for university, needing a "workhorse" pencil that I can use heavily, and I do use it heavily, even today, having graduated. That's the only thing I would say.

    I have .7mm Kuru Toga & .5mm Delguard.
    Delguard works together with HB lead which is stong enogh. I tried with any generic 2B lead and with 3 clicks the lead broke when xtra side pressure was exercised, so 2 clicks is recommended. I'm not saying Delguard is not good, but HB lead works better in the whole concept. {HB doesn't smear for the long period archive writing too}
    Kuru Toga v1 is good enough even in .7mm to provide even thin line. So i like both of them.
    Slight bigger Kuru Toga diameter sits better in my hand, while smaller Delguard suits for small writing.

    I just bought my first Kuru Toga Advance. I really like the fine consistent line it draws. One huge issue I have is the size of the eraser. I wish one of the companies that makes these state or the art rotating lead pencils would make a model that takes the larger sized Pentel Twist-Erase eraser. I don't see any point to the tiny erasers most mechanical pencils have. Since I started using the Kuru Toga Advance I haven't bothered to use the eraser even once. If I use it, then all to soon it won't be there. (Someone translate this into Japanese and get it to the right people. Domo arigato! )

I prefer the Del guard over the kurutoga because I write in cursive and honestly really like the chisel tip of the lead (I don’t write much with pencil for obvious reasons and the chisel tip is great for line variations between thin and broad for shading), the kurutoga is kinda expensive and hard to find where I live anyways, I’ll wait for the one shop that sells the advanced model to restock and get that one instead.
    I’m getting both because I am a heavy writer and sketcher and I’ll be using the Mono for math (we do lots of graphing and geometry in general where I live) because it has the needle tip.

    kuru toga still the best for both fast writing and drawing. except if you often break pencil leads, zebra delguard suits you better

    I have both and hate each one with a passion. Both companies as a pen company are way better. Uniball has the DX line. Zebra has the Sarasa Clip and Vintage line. The best mechanical pencil company is Tombow.

    "I'm often asked which mechanical pencil I would pick: The Uni Kuru Toga or the Zebra Delguard. Well, the answer is neither: the Pentel P205."
    But more honestly, I've had problems with the Kuru Toga not rotating fast enough and creating a tip that breaks easily. The Delguard is more suited for my heavy writing and breakable no-repro blue leads so it wins in my situation.

    I remember there was this one kid in school who was really into pens and Mechanical pencils and he gave me the kuru toga but at that time I didn’t know it’s features about the spinning lead but man that mechanical pencil was one of my absolute favorite of all time until someone in my class stole it so recently I bought another one and I can’t wait until it arrives

    Tbh, the kuru toga is probably the best when it comes to sketching and drawing. The springiness means you can get great gradation from the lead without needing to switch grades, and its just a workhorse. I've got 2 I've had for about 4 years, not once have they failed me

      Hmm interesting, honestly I would prefer delguard cuz I don't always like my lead sharp due to rotational mechanism of kuru toga, blunt ends help in shading, besides I'm heavy handed with a death grip so Delguard suits me better 😅

      I do write in cursive and have kuru toga v1 only, but can confirm that the writing does stay thin enough after 3-4 lines, where normal 0.5mm ✏️ starts becomming a bit broader in strokes.

    As much as I adore my 0.3 Kuru Toga, the rotating lead does feel awkward when I'm writing. I think I might have to spring for a DelGuard. Also have a bit of a death-grip and heavy hand after surgery for a compound fracture, so hopefully it'll be a good fit!♡

  • @malonecapone2
    @malonecapone2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any Kuru Toga for me. The Roulette and Advance Upgrade are my favourites although the other Kuru Togas are also great. Zebra Delguard and all other pencils don't cut it as the lead doesn't stay sharp when you write.

    If I could add to the KuruToga the graphite is super smooth and doesn’t smug and bcuz of the spring inside it’s like writing from height altitude🔥🔥🔥🔥

    I am super heavy-handed and my Kuru Toga just gave out on me. It cracked around the barrel where my hand goes and finally shattered despite taping and babying it. It did last quite a while, maybe a year and a half with daily use of both writing and drawing. I was pretty disappointed with the Dr. Grip so guess it's a Del Guard for me and my death grip. I'm one of those people who uses a pen in a notebook and you can clearly see what I wrote like 4 pages prior because it is embossed deeply into the sheets. The Graph Gear 500 was good, but it was my first non-CVS like the good ol' Bic or Pentel Champ. Now if only these brands started selling their cuter options in the US. I'd love to more easily find Jinbesan, Gudetama, etc mechanical pencils.

    the video was really useful since you see these pencils on sale in japan but the packaging is all in japanese, so it's hard to know the different features. Even the unique rotation feature of the Kuru Toga is easy to miss if you don't know about it since pencils in Europe and the USA don't have this feature.
