Patrick Ewing's Clutch Game 7 Tip-Dunk (Leads to Reggie Miller Airball & Weak Flagrant)

- June 5, 1994 - Check out this Game 7, Finals-clinching box score:
24 points
22 rebounds
7 assists
5 blocks
1 steal
Those numbers belong to Patrick Ewing, who helped push the New York Knicks to their first NBA Finals appearance since the early 70's.
In contrast, it was a less-than-ideal end of the road for Indiana's Reggie Miller. Two games after his famous 25-point fourth quarter at MSG, Miller finished 7-of-17 from the field in Game 7. His airball and questionable flagrant foul in the clutch all but closed the door on his team's Finals aspirations.

Ewing hugging that fan court-side was tremendous. 🏀
I remember seeing that live
Dude was gesturing for a classic chest bump and Patrick went full bear hug! Love it!!
ikr that was awesome! 😂
Ain't no NBA arena or fanbase that is more electric and intense than the Knicks @ the garden when they're good. Let's go NYKNICKS!!
I loved when Marv said - "And Larry Brown is very upset!"
I remember watching that game live! Nothing like those early to mid 90s Knicks teams!
yup i loved it when the Pacers beat the 95 Knicks team...that was the best!
Loved Reggie as a Knicks fan, he made the rivalry. Ewing was always a number one if you’re a Knicks fan. Miss this nba
Unlike the Bulls-Knicks rivalry, this rivalry was more evenly matched
Whos here after we will see Knicks vs Pacers in the 2nd round???
Msg must have been rocking omg I was too young to get tickets but sure watched it on TV. Man Marv Albert makes it feel theatrical so intense
NBA on NBC was the best network to broadcast the playoffs. What memories! More than a quarter of a century has passed by since this game was played at MSG.😢
Biggest shot of his career, terrible flagrant.
TO ALL SISTERS OF MERCY WHINING FOR THE FLAGRANT CALL: Early in the 4th qtr McKey hit a 3-pointer which was counted while it shouldn't, because when the 24-sec clock expired the ball was still in his hands. So the Pacers should have been minus 3 points at the end anyway.
doesnt' matter...Miller's push on starks at the end was not a flagrant foul...horrible call!
@@aces12279 doesnt' matter... McKey's 3-pt shot earlier should not have counted... horrible call!
@InfraaVerdaggens but it did count
Early in the fourth? Come on. You can't possibly know that everything would play out in exactly the same way if McKey's three wasn't counted.
Ball don't lie.. Go knicks!! 💖🏀
Refs made a good call on the dunk by Ewing (it was not offensive basket interference - replays showed it was clearly well off the rim when he grabbed it) but that flagrant call was hideous. I can't think of another situation in any basketball game, NBA or NCAA, where refs called a flagrant in an obvious foul situation at the end of a game like that. Since Starks made 1 of 2 at the line, it should have been Pacers ball at midcourt with 3.2 remaining down 90-92.
And Miller probably hits a 3 to win the game 93-92
Funny how history turns out. It was the Knicks year to go to the Finals
Die hard pacer fan don't even get me started...
Terrible call on the flagrant. And Starks missed the FT too. Who knows what would've happened from there. Reggie Miller was a class act going up to Ewing at the end there.
I think ‘95 you got your payback with that Reggie push off against Greg Anthony for that 3…
NO whining...took that L...
I was only 5 in 94 what was the atmosphere like for game 6
@@AnthonyWilliams-vx8ulevery playoff game in New York was like this in the 90s. I miss it
Marv saying "Reggie Miller with the airball" never gets old
That flagrant foul by Miller was a payback for his theatrics last season which he got Starks ejected.
Wow!!! That's not even a flagrant foul in today's game
unless it's on the self proclaimed king Leflop 🤣🤣
You sure don't know what physical means smooth brain
EW heart of a Champion! Dont care what the books shows
30 years later 2024 watching this during 1st round hoping rivalry renews
Its happening folks in the 2nd round
Knicks beat sixers in 6
Pacers best the injured bucks in 6
Raivalry renews
New chapter is here
Some idiots only remember the missed finger roll🤦🏾♂️😂😂😂Look at that last line 24 22 5 7!!!!!!!! Alltime great💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Leflop definitely studied Starks performance selling the foul 😂
That was never a flagrant 😅 Atmosphere was electric though! 😎
2:02 both of reggie's miller's hands on John Stark's chest not close to ball........you keep smoking that reefer my friend
Even though I was a Reggie Miller fan at the time, I did (and still do) agree with the call. Any time you go into a shoving motion at or near the head area, you are running the risk of a flagrant foul. I can see why some people disagreed with the call, but I also can certainly see why a flagrant foul was called. At the end of the day, the Pacers had their chance to close the series out in Indiana in Game 6 and not even let this Game 7 happen ... but they couldn't get it done. This was a great series and a well-deserved win for the Knicks. Even though it hurts all over again re-watching it 30 years later, the Knicks held their nerve better down the stretch in Games 6 and 7 - IMO, the better team won this series, as much as I hate to admit it, lol!!
Was there anything better than 90's basketball? Hell, the 90's in general?
yes, the 80's
I jumped out my my seat when that moment happened.
Get rid of the semicolon.
Whole pacers team should have exploded onto the court and refused the refs any exit from the court
Whoever he hugged
I wish he could have done it again in 95.
Offensive goaltending no question about it.
Reggie was heated!!! 😂😂
Reggie Miller was one of the original floppers but great job flopping by John Starks here.
Illegal basket interference, lol. Refs just wanted to make sure they got out alive that day.
Nope it was off cylinder
Ewing was so clutch.
Miller CHOKED! Air ball!
i recall in game 1 in 95 that the knicks choked after being up 105-99 with around 18 seconds left. Miller saved the day!
the best nba teams that had patrick ewing were the #1 1993 knicks #2 1994 knicks #3 1999 knicks and #4 2000 knicks and the best individual playoff years were #1 1993 #2 1992 #3 1990 and #4 1994 for superstar patrick ewing
I think the 1992 Knicks that took the 67-15 Bulls to Game 7, was better than 1999 Knicks..Ewing on that team was 3 times the better player than 1999 Ewing. If the Knicks somehow ended up beating the Bulls in game 7, they might have won the Championship ( beating Cavs and Blazers). There was no contest on the Spurs beating the 1999 KNicks in 5 games even if Ewing was playing.
@@VMakNYC you make sense and please tell me did you know the spurs won game four over the knicks 96-89 and then won game five 78-77
Reggie miller been through a lot smh pacers rockets would of been interesting
Msg baby
I was at this game. Now do the finger roll.... 😉
Give me the ball and if we lose let me lose it. So selfish no wonder he never won a championship.
Rigged
Knicks fans are harsh! Ewing's put back dunk was clutch and sent them to the finals to play for a championship against the Rockets. But instead of praising him for this everyone always dogs him and brings up his missed layup game against the Pacers in game 7 of the Semifinals the following year. I'm glad the Knicks haven't had success since the Ewing years. #karma
