      It's funny that we don't think about this- but computers have actually been out since the late 60s. The first public internet may be associated with He early 80s, first public actual "connect with the world" type of thing in the 90s with dial up, first "smart phone" in the late 90s to early 2000s (flip phones), then 2007 with the iPhone, and then here we are today.

      Hard to believe that considering social media came out in the early 2000s and actually traces back to the 90s lol! I imagine people will be more likely to think of early 2000s as the "social media age" (with Twitter, TH-cam, Facebook, etc) and the 90s as "not the social media age" though social media *technically* came out in the 90s.
      I've traced social forums all the way back to 95 as the earliest most common foruming age... there was one time though I even found something from December 30th 1989 O_O

      Right up to the early/mid-'70s, employees at each McDonald's sat there peeling and slicing potatoes for the fries. (A friend of mine did that as teenager.) It was in the late-'70s that I first saw someone tear open a bag of pre-cut frozen French fries and dump them into the fry-o-later basket. "What is this world coming to?", I wondered, as I adjusted my Peter Frampton belt buckle.

      @european-one 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ultradude it is, I worked at McDonald's during my time at uni which wasn't all that long ago.
      they weren't flipping the burgers just lifting them off after so many minutes. You can see that he is just waiting there.
      only difference now is the top of the grill closes to squeeze the meat and cook it faster, and comes up after the set time.
      also they don't have separate people for cooking the meat and dressing the buns because screw the staff, they can work twice as hard and McDonald's can pay out half as much.
      the entire set I saw here is how they do it at McDonald's.
      that's not the say the quality wont have changed, I would expect the ingredients such as meat are worse now since beef is more expensive nowadays.

    You kids have no idea how awesome McDonalds was in the 80’s. Old people shook their heads at us young people that ate at McDonalds ‘cause they ate at diner style places for hamburgers and McDonalds was the hip place to be for kids and young adults (though I was more crazy about Taco Bell). In the 80’s being in McDonalds was like being in an Apple store, LOL!
    I remember some goofy 80’s movie with a young Kevin Costner about cycling and they were healthy athletic cyclists and in the “racing their way to the top” montage they kept showing their race team going into McDonalds, pretty funny today...

      I think it's about 50/50. The twenty-first century we now live in is much more health conscious in terms of caloric intake and eliminating trans fats in using alternate oils. The 1970s did not list the caloric amounts on their menu; cooking oil was a one brand fits all kind of brand, probably more fat and worse on the arteries.

    • @eclecticreader961
      @eclecticreader961 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Negative. More fat, more issues. Healthy eating hasn't been officially engrained in people since the era of the great depression. The irony of the worst of those days is that people ate more vegetables and less meat, thus creating a better body and expanding their lifespan.
      The problem with 21st century eating is that people are fixated on the word protein. Protein is important, but it really doesn't have to be consumed in every meal and certainly not multiple days in a week. Continuous protein consumption leads to weight gain; weight gain then leads to high blood pressure. It also overworks the kidneys.

      Yes, food was less processed back then. What Eclectic Reader failed to address is how there are so many more unnatural preservatives and chemicals in the food nowadays that automatically makes it less healthy. Regardless if people were health conscious or not, healthy food was always available everywhere back then--healthy as in wholesome food with better nutrition and less preservatives. Nowadays, people have to look for healthy food via farmer's market or grow/farm their own food for the best benefits. Quality in everything has declined.
