@@dariowiter3078 Good point. Boy, I'd sure love to go back to a time before cell phones and especially anti-social media. I got my first computer around 1983 or 1984.
They all looked a lot classier then. One downside was the cigarette smoke as everyone smoked while eating, with the aluminum or orange glass ash trays at EVERY TABLE.
I remember this from my McDonald's days 30 years ago... I saw the thumbnail and immediately thought, in a panicked voice, "courtesy cup? Courtesy cup!!" Love them all, now to find one called "credibility gap..."
Step 4, Present food to customer. Step 5 , Take the money. 3:58 I remember those days. Today it's Step 1, Take the money. Step 2, Ignore the customer. Step 3, toss cold food towards customer and don't make eye contact. 😂
Ha! I worked retail in the 1980s and seeing the folks now who don't make eye-contact or cop an attitude if you ask for help , would send my old manager to the fainting couch.
They should train their employes like this today and i think they should bring back the hot dispenser where they have the sandwiches ready in advance so the service is faster.
The production bin could only hold food for 10 minutes whereas now they can hold disassembled products in the kitchen for much longer so I cannot see it returning anytime soon. The new system also gives the impression it's made freshly for each order - when it isn't.
$3.59 in 1974 is equal to $22.40 today. I don’t go to mcdoodles but I would bet at today’s inflated prices a shake, coke, coffee, Big Mac, quarter pounder, regular burger, two regular fries and a pie will cost way more than $22.40.
I was a store manager in 1982 remember all this. Store mangers had to do 6 weeks as a worker. I mis the quality and cleanliness. Todays stores are half what they used to be. Seriously.. if you opened up an old style store and techniques it would be packed. I long for a hot quater pounder not a luke warm peice of rubber.
I think the guy who played the role of the McDonald's manager (at 6:42) was Arthur Howard, one of the many ensemble players, on the PBS show Square One Television.
It's sad that no McDonald's looks like this today. McDonald's is always set on modernizing the stores that they lose their sense of style. I wish that McDonald's would think about modernizing stores while retaining the store's character. Nowadays, like the store I work at, my store feels dead inside because of the bland decor that was installed last year.
The reason this would never work today is because sadly these types of attitudes begin in the home. Most of today’s parents today couldn’t even begin to train their kids to behave like this. Instead most are raising their kids to only care about themselves and no one else. Very sad, but I believe that in most part it is true.
VCR’s didn’t come out until 1978..so I’m wondering how this was viewed. In 1972, people primarily watched videos by tuning into television broadcasts, as home video recording technology was still in its very early stages, with only a few expensive, bulky systems like the "Cartrivision" VCR available to a limited audience, which meant most people would watch pre-recorded content on TV at scheduled times; there was no widespread ability to "watch videos on demand" at home like we have today. Key points about video watching in 1972: TV viewing: The primary way to watch videos was by watching scheduled programs on television. Early VCRs: A few very early consumer video cassette recorders (VCRs) like the Cartrivision existed, but they were expensive and not widely accessible. No home video rentals: The concept of renting movies from a store on videotape was not yet common. Film for home movies: If people wanted to watch their own videos, they would typically use film projectors to view home movies shot on film reels (like Super 8 or 16mm).
Look at all the people working there. Now you have 1 person doing what 5 people were doing back then. All that extra work and stress for significantly less pay when adjusted for inflation/spending power.
Surprised the employees want to hangout after their shift is over and eat the McDonald's food. Gosh, if I were to visit a restaurant I once worked at back in the 90s on my day off, my employer would expect me to clock in and help
maybe because looking back 50 years and seeing people that look like they belong in the present is mind-bending. Those girls look better than girls now. They are better.
I noticed a few times they prepared the order before the customer paid. That certainly isn't how it's done today. I don't have McDonald's experience but did my tour of duty at Taco Bell. Prices were different back then. If an order was over $10, that was considered a really big ordered. Customers got two extra tacos for free for exceeding $10 (it was an unwritten policy). With credit and debit cards, and mobile and kiosk orders, things have changed. Less interaction with customers.
I know that old “customer” is probably long gone but I’m curious if anyone in this video knows it exists and what they think about their old selves…lol..
