For anyone watching who has had this surgery recommended, but is nervous about doing it. Don't worry, just go for it. The results are immediate and you will get your life back. Obviously make sure you go to a good hospital and speak to an experienced surgeon, but as the video demonstrates, it's not actually a complex operation. It can be frightening because of the location, but it's a fairly quick operation and you can usually go home the same day or the following day. In my case my recovery involved absolute rest for 2 weeks, followed by daily 1 hour physio sessions for 2 weeks, then exercises at home for a month. After that, I was basically back to normal.

My is in L4-L5 and its been its been 3months plus now the sciatic pain pain is still around 8.5 that I had the accident slipping and causing the herniation have been to the hospital three times maybe more have taken many anti inflammatories, pain meds and cortisone, on top of that I have done physio. pain is still there and hasn't gotten better. one neuro-surgeon recommended I did a ct guided discoplasty with rf and another neuro surgeon said I need to have a micro-discectomy. I don't know what to do as now my next appointment will only be in a month plus to see another neuro-surgeon in Crete, Greece. Another doctor mentioned that after this time that has past there is a high chance of the extrusion becoming calsified. What can you advice me and how do I move forward.

I have a bulging disc and the exercising routine is crucial: I am doing yoga, planks, dead bugs, otherwise doing Deadlifts and Squats with light weights, so my core is strong. On the second place death hangs, swimming and back hyperextensions(on a gym machine) are also great! I feel actually no pain and can live like a normal person. Eating enough protein, Collagen and other micro elements is very important too

Hello. I am sharing my experience here.
I have herniated disc at L5-S1 and L4-L5. I had pain since 2 months almost. At the beginning I had pain and stiffness in back when i woke up in the morning. After a month i went to the doc and was diagnosed with disc herniation. I got an epidural steroid shot, but it did not work. After few days the pain started to radiate to left leg, till last monday it became so severe that i couldn't even sit or walk upright. Main pain points were back of thigh and calves. So I went again and got micro-discectomy last thursday. The moment i woke up after surgery the pain was gone. I felt relieved. I have been advised be rest for 6 weeks or so.
So far so good. I'll update future events

It's great - 6* video - well presented, easy to understand, helpful to patients etc. It shows how to remove the leaked gel that press the nerve that cause the pain. I just wonder if there is any similar video for the cervical spine and the leaked gel does not press the nerve but press the spine cord. I think it may be more difficult to take the leaked gel out because it is deeper inside; and it more dangerous because it is right behind the spine cord . . . So how is this done? Many many thanks for all this and many other videos, Tony

I just found out I have a L5 s1 disc bulge to the left. I have back pain when I sit but no leg pain. Do u have a disc bulge/ back pain or only leg pain. Also I only hurt when I sit not when I'm trying to sleep. Did you heal up completely? If so how long did it take and what did u do to heal ? Please help 😊🙃 also my back used to get tight when I lay down for bed but since I started back exercises 4 weeks ago. It doesn't get tight when I lay down only when I drive or sit. Are u 100% healed or do u still have back pain? Did u get surgery? Are you having any complications after surgery? Also b4 your first surgery was your back hurting or your legs or both

@@AtlanticSpineCenter So I'm on my 4th day after this exact Surgery. I was up and walking unaided as soon as the anesthesia wore of.
When I first came to, I wanted the nurse to shoot me in post op lol. She turned me around onto my good side and I fell in love with her lol.
Anyhoo. I got released the next day because of my age, and condition.
See I knew this op was a 50/50 chance of actually happening so I joined a Gym and lost 6 stone over 10 months and reshaped my body into muscle. Hence my speedy recovery. I was actually dehydrated preop....🥶🥶🥶
The pain WAS exhausting and scary at times, because I live alone. Overall I feel my quality of life improving as we speak
I'll post back in a few days after my weekly checkup in my GPs. I would accept this operation again without haste.

After watching these videos I’m no longer terrified of the possibility of surgery, although I believe the way Biokinetics are working so well, I will most probably not require surgery. I’m a medical doctor (though not a spinal specialist), but my sister has similar problems, with her spinal degeneration much more advanced than mine. I’ve been on prescription pain meds, but that only helps for a while. And steroid injections relieves pain for a few days, not weeks. It’s hard to explain to loved one and friends the pain I ‘m experiencing and maybe this video will help them understand. I hate it when people respond with, “Oh, I have back pain, too.” I’m 53, and after failed back surgery, pain rules my life. Even before Covid19, My mobility was limited, so I’ve been in self-isolation for almost four years. It’s depressing to know I will never live another day without pain.

Conservative treatment is always the first line of treatment and with several different approaches-and for several months. Unfortunately for some, those treatments fail. Most time the patient chooses the surgery because the patient has run out of non-surgical options and cannot bear to live with the pain any longer. Although there may be some flattening of the disc, the benefit of reaching relief from months of agonizing back pain outweighs this possible risk factor for these patients.

    • @AtlanticSpineCenter
      @AtlanticSpineCenter  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Discs can bulge again. Prevention is key. Follow your doctor’s or physical therapy recommendations on the best care for the discs in your back to reduce pressure and strain. If you like to work out at the gym, first learn techniques that strengthen the muscles that support the back including back muscles, shoulder muscles and core abdominal muscles and be very aware of your posture when you work-out at all times. Consult with a certified trainer at the gym before returning to your work out and explain your injury or back problem to them. Going back to the gym after a procedure depends on your doctor’s recommendations, which procedure you have had and in what location. An endoscopic (minimally invasive) procedure, such as in this video, will not take as long to return to your normal routine as an open procedure would. A good comfort level to start back to exercising on your own is around 6 weeks, but physical therapy guided exercises should come first and a Physical Therapist can usually get you started as early as 2-4 weeks.

If the herniated disc fluid is removed is there the potential for additional fluid remaining to cause another herniation or is the disc resealed after extraction?
Does the removal of the nucleus material result in a reduced range of motion as the vertebrae no longer possess a potentially significant portion of the “ball bearing” material?

They’ll tell you basically 100% on removing the herniation, but as far as everything else that’s a contributing factor like the persons weight or breast size or age or what you do for work. So many things play a factor that it’s more about the guarantee of a better quality of life or reversing the damage and be how you were prior to your situation.

Good luck! I know that each person’s bulging or desiccated disc(s) pain is subjective, but I was on that road to addiction of opioids pushed on me by my doctors before I wisened up. I stopped the opioids, lost all my fat (50 lbs) via Keto diet/lifestyle which allowed me to quit other meds I was on. I still have lower back pain and some neuralgia in my feet/legs but far less that before as well as the problems related to cervical disc problems. I deal with my pain with ice packs, ibuprofen, aspercream (sp) and the occasional Lidocaine patch, stretching, walking…I am far better off without my doctors than I was with them.

@@kingloz36 I have had three over the years. L-4/L-5 in 2001, L-5/S-1 in 2012, (those both laid me out and one hospitalized me.) Most recently, January 2023, a cervical disc bulged towards and is pressing against the central spinal canal. That one was the least severe but still caused much pain, reduced arm and hand strength, reduced sensation, and numbness, as well as reduced range of motion of head and arms.
I finally got approved for P.T. In May and finished my last session today. I do exercises for my lumbar pain 2 to 3 times a week. I also do exercises for my neck twice a week, as well as rowing and swimming. Continuing to reduce my weight has helped. Hot showers, Ice packs, lidocaine patches, medicated creams, ibuprofen (sometimes and only 2) and stretching. I stay busy doing ALL the house work, shopping, cooking, yard work, car maintenance…as my wife still works full time. These chores keep me busy and divert much attention away from my pain/discomfort. But, hey, I’m alive! Something some of my old Air Force buddies can’t say.

I am having this in 8 days time, Friday 3rd September 2021. He said he is also removing a small piece of bone to create a bit more space for the nerve. A preventative method to reduce damage to the nerve if the disc ruptures again in the future. My surgeon is keeping me in and plans on discharging on Sunday. So if the inner core gel leaked out, does it refill and does the disc heal and seal the point where it leaked?

No caso, as nádegas doem e as pernas ficam adormecidas e formigando. Meu médico nunca me indicou cirurgia.
