Thank you so much for all of the Phaedrus-related videos! I am working on a PhD in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. Coming from afar field, I did not have to take any Rhetoric undergraduate courses. Consequently, I never studied Phaedrus. I really appreciate your videos.

Funny, back when I did my PhD in Rhetoric & Tech Comm I had never really studied rhetoric in my undergrad either other than in passing reference or in a writing center context. George Kennedy's "A New History of Classical Rhetoric" is a great read just to get sort of caught up. I teach an Intro to Rhetoric course and use a James Williams textbook which does a good job covering ancient Greek and Roman rhetoricians with lots of primary texts. Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.

@@DrDanLawrence Wow! That is funny :D . You have made me feel better. I am a non-traditional student who, after two (almost three) decades out of school, decided to go back (online to Texas Tech University) for my Masters and then PhD...back to back. In my courses with the younger students, I always felt out of place and like I had not learned nearly as much as they did. Imposter Syndrome on steroids :D ! I feel better hearing from you that you did it and did not study rhetoric initially, too :D . Thanks so much for the book info (I am going to find it asap), and, yes, I will keep you posted.

@@dangeloandthangs How are things going with your doctoral degree? Just wanted to check in and see if you're hanging in there. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or need some guidance. I know it was a tough time for me and I'm happy to help.

@@DrDanLawrence Hi, Dr. Lawrence! Thank you so much for checking in on me. I just now tried to reply to this, but I don't know if I accidentally Cancelled it or not :D . I was saying that, as of March 24, I successfully defended! I will be graduating in May :D . If TH-cam will allow, I will share a link to my recorded defense here. I will also share a link to a blog in which Dr. Andrea Lunsford mentions my work. She was not on my committee but has become a trusted mentor and colleague.
My committee edited my dissertation so that the information I gleaned from your video was not included in my final draft :( . However, I will be using it to write an article :D . Again, thank you so much!

@@dangeloandthangs Hot dog and congrats on the succesful defense! I used higheredjobs.com to find my tenure track job but there are better resources out there like the rhet/comp job wikis. Either way it sounds like you've built an absolutely elite support network and you're headed toward great things in the field. Nice work all around. No need to ever cite me, I've always been a sideline/rogue scholar. I have a new book out from Broadview Press if you're ever interested in digital rhetoric: broadviewpress.com/product/digital-writing and a new book on rhetoric and disinformation coming out this summer from Urano World publishers. Best of luck and keep in touch! Post the link to your defense if you can, will be interested to see!

writing is awesome, but in defense of plato, would u rather read all his books, or have a 30 min conversartion with him in person? i think that's a good example of the power of a dialogue, great video btw 👍👍

Cool question! Glad you liked the video. Plato's written works have been so instrumental to the development of Western thought that I would rather keep the books, I have to say. Not for me, but for the rest of the world. But if I were just thinking of myself, I would probably say "Yeah, I'll take the 30 minutes of talking to Plato even if I can't read him for the rest of my life." Granted I'd have to brush up on my ancient Greek language!
