I purchased my Sony A7III camera on June 17th, 2018 - not only is this the exact day I welcomed my beautiful daughter into the world, but it also happened to be Father's Day! 📷👶💙 It's amazing how certain dates become so significant in our lives. Now, every time I pick up my camera, it's a reminder of that incredible day filled with love and joy. Cheers to capturing precious moments and making memories that last a lifetime
Moral of the story: It’s not Canon vs Sony, it’s your approach, your capacity to adjust, your overall creativity and your level of nerdiness.

It is Canon vs. Sony. Sony forced Canon and Nikon to switch to Mirrorless or get left behind.

Your Sony A7III review 5 years ago is what initially inspired me to pull the trigger on buying my first camera (coming from almost only using a smartphone or rented school camera), which jumpstarted my own photography career. Thanks for all of your effort and passion on TH-cam, you've earned/deserve all the success!
The a7III got my photography career going and I watched every one of your videos. The a7IV is leaps ahead, but the a7III was good for it's time. The price, AF and lens selection was hard to beat. If I could go back, I'd have switched to the GH5 for video earlier. For a while I ended up using two systems. I'm very happy now that Sony has brought s-log3 10-bit to the mirrorless line... and for your reviews/tutorials over the years.
It was your A7iii picture profile video that was perhaps the most important TH-cam video I watched because it really got me thinking about the deeper workings of cameras and videography. I owe so much of my current knowledge to you. Thank you for keeping so many of us curious, thinking, and informed.

Because of you and the power horse Sony A7 III, I started my career at Wedding Films. The profile I use for the shots are your profiles, with your configurations. Just by curiosity, I tried 2 days ago changing the profiles to PP7 - SLOG2 - just to see how it could be. There is no comparison! Yours are much higher quality and far more dynamic range friendly. It's a differential that rendered to no bride ever complaining about colors, skin tone or quality. 5/5 Stars rating every time. Thanks, Gerald!

I launched my wedding videography business using the Canon 200D. It wasn't until two years later when I bought the A7III and learned so much about it from you, my business really took off and I was soon able to leave the 9-5 and work 24/7 but I wouldn't change a thing. A lot of that success is attributed to you, Gerald. Thank you. The A7III will always be an important camera to me, even though now it has become my B cam.

It was the a7S III review - which is a masterclass in camera reviews itself - that initially put your channel into my recommendations. Never knew the a7 III had so much importance in the mix of your story and content strategy, but it was also my first full frame Sony, and still wild how many features Sony packed into that thing for the price point. Glad that it led you to where you are now!

I love watching your videos. It helps me make sense of things and decide what is or is not important. Proud to have a Canadian TH-camr to watch. There are only a handful of them and you are the top one I watch. Keep smashing the videos out. I am still trying to decide between the A7IV and Pani S5II/X for my entry back into photography and eventually learn video as well.
I remember I found you through my searches regarding m43 format. You were the clearest and easiest to understand of all. Sometimes, you still are... :) Keep them coming!
I appreciate all your technical videos and look forward to each one. This one was different, and it was pretty awesome to hear you put things in perspective. Hope you do these things semiannually or at the end of each year. Maybe one as a personal reflection and another as a “state of the camera union “ address lol.

When I started my TH-cam adventure, your recommendations on cameras and other photography equipment enabled me to find the right camera and lenses. The camera I went with is a A7SIII and even though it was a bit more than what I will be using it for at first, I can grow with this camera and make amazing quality videos for each situation. I then used your other videos to properly set my camera to give the best output for my audience, as my standard is quality over quantity. Dude, it's been a thrill to watch what has happened to you over the years. For me, your nerdiness was welcomed. I was exhausted of the random regurgitation of people repeating company specs and things they've heard about dynamic range, etc. etc.

This video almost had me tearing up dude! I purchased a Sony A1 as my first camera (yes, lol FIRST!) for my new photo/video business in March of 2022 based on your A1 review and rigging videos. What's funny is that you mentioned in the video is that it was a really impractical camera for most people to own, but the reasoning for your purchase in the video made so much sense to me that it gave me the courage to finally take out a small business loan and get started where I had previously struggled to build up enough courage. It hasn't all been smooth, and I've wanted to give up at several points, but I have gone on to pay off most of that loan, and am now feeling more confident than ever in my creative journey and in my business. Still rocking the A1 and now an FX3 as well. Thank you for doing what you do, Gerald!

I picked up my Alpha 7 IV and FE 35mm f/1.8 a few days ago as a birthday gift for myself and am very happy that I did. Your reviews helped me narrow down what products to consider and what's important to look at depending on what kind of shooter you are.
I discovered your channel after I bought the a7 III but it also catapulted my photography to a new level. Now no more Sony user, I still have the camera close to me with a defect Sensor, and still feel thankful and nostalgic somehow.

I remember the time very well, sony a7iii was the talk of the town. Well done mate on getting on board the train. I started my channel in 2017, but decided not to take a loan out to get one and i saw loads of channels boom that were using them but not mine alas.... that said, without formula, it would have been lost in the ether either way.
