Because of you and the power horse Sony A7 III, I started my career at Wedding Films. The profile I use for the shots are your profiles, with your configurations. Just by curiosity, I tried 2 days ago changing the profiles to PP7 - SLOG2 - just to see how it could be. There is no comparison! Yours are much higher quality and far more dynamic range friendly. Never knew the a7 III had so much importance in the mix of your story and content strategy, but it was also my first full frame Sony, and still wild how many features Sony packed into that thing for the price point. I launched my wedding videography business using the Canon 200D. It wasn't until two years later when I bought the A7III and learned so much about it from you, my business really took off and I was soon able to leave the 9-5 and work 24/7 but I wouldn't change a thing. The a7III got my photography career going and I watched every one of your videos. The a7IV is leaps ahead, but the a7III was good for it's time. The price, AF and lens selection was hard to beat. If I could go back, I'd have switched to the GH5 for video earlier. For a while I ended up using two systems. I started my channel in 2017, but decided not to take a loan out to get one and i saw loads of channels boom that were using them but not mine alas.... that said, without formula, it would have been lost in the ether either way. I got an A7 III at the tail end of 2022/beginning 2023 (to save money and see if photo/video was for me) and while it's far from the best, and has quite a few limitations when mixing video and photography into a single camera, it's been less about the gear and more about getting out there, experimenting, making mistakes, and learning. Thanks for your content - haven't been watching for too long, but I'll be happily working through the backlog.
This video almost had me tearing up dude! I purchased a Sony A1 as my first camera (yes, lol FIRST!) for my new photo/video business in March of 2022 based on your A1 review and rigging videos. What's funny is that you mentioned in the video is that it was a really impractical camera for most people to own, but the reasoning for your purchase in the video made so much sense to me that it gave me the courage to finally take out a small business loan and get started where I had previously struggled to build up enough courage. It hasn't all been smooth, and I've wanted to give up at several points, but I have gone on to pay off most of that loan, and am now feeling more confident than ever in my creative journey and in my business. Sold my 80D & bought an used A7iii this year with 500 shutter count & warranty a year left. Couldnt be more happier. I use this for event , wedding photography. with prime Sigma 35, 85 & Sony G 20mm 1.8. super happy with it, the transition from DSLR to mirrorless

The A7iii was my first big investment as a content creator. I couldnt really justify the cost at the time, but i said "screw it, i have to take some chances if i want to really commit to doing this". I still remember being blown away by how awesome everything looked when shot with it. Still use an a7iv and a7siii to this day because of that experience.

Yeah but, are you having any fun? I make videos for me 1st, all of you 2nd. I do what I do because I really enjoy it, many of you feel the same about my videos and when that happens, I've totally succeeded. But I could never do this TH-cam thing for a living, I'd just go to bed and wake up hating myself and the job I turned it all into. So to each their own, wish ya all the best. If I ever get big enough to live on this, I'll probably quite or slow down regardless just to eliminate any chance of that feeling were "I have to do a thing" just for the sake of doing a thing. Your videos on the A7 III made me purchase an A7R III with a high level of confidence that it would be a big upgrade from my Nikon D810 at the time, and it was. The increase in efficiency from mirrorless completely changed the course of my life in a positive way.
I recently went back over my photos of two trips to japan in 2019 and 2020. A friend was going through them and said that the pics were ‘postcard worthy’ and ‘like they were out of a travel magazine’. I feel that you just can’t get that kind of feedback with a phone, or even most apsc cameras (esp in low light). So even though I haven’t used my a7iii for nearly a year, I’ll be happily keeping it for my next travel trip. Absolutely love the camera :)

Sony A7 III is pretty important for me too! I Bought it back in 2019, but the decision was made already in 2018, when the camera was released. I had a Panasonic G85 at that time, for trying to get the hang of videography and a bit of photography. But it didn't take long to realize its limits. I was eyeing full-frame cameras, but nothing clicked until the Sony A7 III showed up. That camera was just right for me. I knew then I wanted to switch from Panasonic to full-frame. So, I got super serious about saving. I worked my ass off, doing so much overtime for an entire year. And finally, in late 2019, I didn't just get the A7 III - I went all out and got five top-tier lenses with it. That year, and that journey really taught me to be self-discipline and stick to the goal. It really taught me to put time and effort on saving up money, and of course in doing so, I got a really nice camera! Still rocking that A7 III today, and I couldn't be happier!

I just got an a7III with the FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G lens so I can take photos of my architecture, this was a recommendation from one of my clients who happens to be a Pulitzer winner photographer, so I was lucky to start with the right foot... but it's overwhelming how much you can do with it, so your channel is great. This was also my first mirrorless camera that I've used for an extent period of time, covering stills and videos until the A7SIII and FX3 came out--when I transitioned to mostly video work. To this day, the A7III is still what I use to take photos. I think around the time I decided to purchase the A7III was also when I discovered Gerald. Since then, I've learned so much from this channel and grew so much as a media professional. Cheers to the A7III for uniting us all, and here's to 5 more years with the camera!
I think a lot of new tech can be attributed to your and similar channels who try to find the practical answers to technical questions. For one, I don't think log encoding would be as widely expected and requested in new cameras if it weren't for your testing a few years ago. Now you see cameras like gopro, iphone 15 introducing log encoding into their images with great success. It sets a benchmark for new cameras as well, where if they don't perform well with dynamic range and color reproduction, they won't even be considered by the majority of users. Basically, the average skill of users have gone up so much that manufacturers actually have to deliver advanced features even in their consumer products. I think your channel is one of the most important ones for that paradigm shift.
the real tragedy is the fact that i know of many channels who put in the work for so long and do amazing work but just don't get any numbers at all and remain trapped in the sub 300 or sub 100 engagement. Luckily you were able to adapt and overcome that hurdle but its a valuable lesson in just how challenging it is to pragmatically act on your ambitions

I bought this camera, as a photographer, 4 years ago. It has been incredible. I recently started this youtube channel and I am amazed at the learning transition from photo to video. This camera has been with me from the moments I found out I was having a boy. Beyond thankful for all the moments I have captured and now the new videos I have been creating. Loved your video and can definitely relate.

Sold my 80D & bought an used A7iii this year with 500 shutter count & warranty a year left. Couldnt be more happier. I use this for event , wedding photography. with prime Sigma 35, 85 & Sony G 20mm 1.8. super happy with it, the transition from DSLR to mirrorless

I remember old school Gerald fondly, for me the XT3 review was super important.
I remember I found you through my searches regarding m43 format. You were the clearest and easiest to understand of all. Sometimes, you still are... :) Keep them coming!
The A7iii was my first big investment as a content creator. I couldnt really justify the cost at the time, but i said "screw it, i have to take some chances if i want to really commit to doing this". I still remember being blown away by how awesome everything looked when shot with it. Still use an a7iv and a7siii to this day because of that experience.
Well done Gerald. Humility looks good on you. Bumps in life that knock the starch out of us make us grow and become stronger, smarter, wiser, and more humble, all at the same time.

I started using an a7III at work this year and your videos were super beneficial
I picked up my Alpha 7 IV and FE 35mm f/1.8 a few days ago as a birthday gift for myself and am very happy that I did. Your reviews helped me narrow down what products to consider and what's important to look at depending on what kind of shooter you are.
Yeah but, are you having any fun? I make videos for me 1st, all of you 2nd. I do what I do because I really enjoy it, many of you feel the same about my videos and when that happens, I've totally succeeded. But I could never do this TH-cam thing for a living, I'd just go to bed and wake up hating myself and the job I turned it all into. So to each their own, wish ya all the best. If I ever get big enough to live on this, I'll probably quite or slow down regardless just to eliminate any chance of that feeling were "I have to do a thing" just for the sake of doing a thing.

Your videos on the A7 III made me purchase an A7R III with a high level of confidence that it would be a big upgrade from my Nikon D810 at the time, and it was. The increase in efficiency from mirrorless completely changed the course of my life in a positive way.
I recently went back over my photos of two trips to japan in 2019 and 2020. A friend was going through them and said that the pics were ‘postcard worthy’ and ‘like they were out of a travel magazine’. I feel that you just can’t get that kind of feedback with a phone, or even most apsc cameras (esp in low light).
So even though I haven’t used my a7iii for nearly a year, I’ll be happily keeping it for my next travel trip. Absolutely love the camera :)
Gerald will be never undone as Sony will keep innovating (and hike the price!) ... a7III was indeed a game-changer with regards to autofocus, as a hybrid camera and value for the money ...

Sony A7 III is pretty important for me too!
I Bought it back in 2019, but the decision was made already in 2018, when the camera was released. I had a Panasonic G85 at that time, for trying to get the hang of videography and a bit of photography. But it didn't take long to realize its limits. I was eyeing full-frame cameras, but nothing clicked until the Sony A7 III showed up. That camera was just right for me.
I knew then I wanted to switch from Panasonic to full-frame. So, I got super serious about saving. I worked my ass off, doing so much overtime for an entire year. And finally, in late 2019, I didn't just get the A7 III - I went all out and got five top-tier lenses with it.
That year, and that journey really taught me to be self-discipline and stick to the goal. It really taught me to put time and effort on saving up money, and of course in doing so, I got a really nice camera!
Still rocking that A7 III today, and I couldn't be happier!

I just got an a7III with the FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G lens so I can take photos of my architecture, this was a recommendation from one of my clients who happens to be a Pulitzer winner photographer, so I was lucky to start with the right foot... but it's overwhelming how much you can do with it, so your channel is great. This was also my first mirrorless camera that I've used for an extent period of time, covering stills and videos until the A7SIII and FX3 came out--when I transitioned to mostly video work. To this day, the A7III is still what I use to take photos. I think around the time I decided to purchase the A7III was also when I discovered Gerald. Since then, I've learned so much from this channel and grew so much as a media professional. Cheers to the A7III for uniting us all, and here's to 5 more years with the camera!
I think a lot of new tech can be attributed to your and similar channels who try to find the practical answers to technical questions. For one, I don't think log encoding would be as widely expected and requested in new cameras if it weren't for your testing a few years ago. Now you see cameras like gopro, iphone 15 introducing log encoding into their images with great success. It sets a benchmark for new cameras as well, where if they don't perform well with dynamic range and color reproduction, they won't even be considered by the majority of users. Basically, the average skill of users have gone up so much that manufacturers actually have to deliver advanced features even in their consumer products. I think your channel is one of the most important ones for that paradigm shift.

the real tragedy is the fact that i know of many channels who put in the work for so long and do amazing work but just don't get any numbers at all and remain trapped in the sub 300 or sub 100 engagement. Luckily you were able to adapt and overcome that hurdle but its a valuable lesson in just how challenging it is to pragmatically act on your ambitions

I remember when I started my channel and was searching for good camera. You and JoshYo from M.A.N. pushed me to Sony a7iii and it was best decision I made... Now switched to a7iv and love that camera and possibilities it gives.
