You are one hell of a smart man! I looked into a basic paint job just for my 38' Coachmen, I was quoted $6000.-$7500 just for all white. Now I will be able to afford the custom "skin" that I want so, so badly! The skin is roughly $4000. and is guaranteed for 10 yrs. My baby is a 1995 (nearly a classic) and I am redoing the entire thing. You have saved me thousands................ thousands. I just cannot thank you enough. I will be watching you for everything that you do...................... and music does help to maintain the pace! Lonesome Dove, Sylvia Grein, US Army, Retired/Disabled
Good for you, glad the video was able to help in saving you money and getting the paint job you want, also thank you for your Service I too am a U.S. Army Retired Warrior, even though after 4 years the paint still looked great, we decided to do a full body paint job, see our other channel under Max1Chase1 with 7 videos and see the new paintjob we did.
Max1Chase1 Thanks.....that mixture seems so thin.... 1/4 paint and 3/4 thinner ? I'm no painter so I will trust on this. I just have to wait for the weather to get warmer.
You can mix even a small amount, so get a measuring cup and use the centimeters gauge and divide a whole centimeter part into 4 parts and use the 1/4 paint and 3/4 thinner and do a small are and let it dry and if you are satisfied do some more and if not adjust more paint as you feel that suits you, but the thinner acts as a leveling mixture to have that smooth look and more coats are needed as you see fit, don't be scared I have faith in your abilities.
No, but I do a good cleaning with sImple green and did a good rinsing, but I do recommend wet sanding with a 500 grid to rough it up some. thx for watching.
GSVMomry, Whatever container you use with measurement marks, Break it into quarters, ie 1/4 paint 3/4 mineral spirits and Gaspar Yes you can get the paint at Lowes, Homedepot get the Rustoleum oil based gloss paint, Thank you both for watching and saving money for RVing.
Thanks for the info Freepeachrulez, every technique is worth trying, as others read the various techniques they will find and use their own path, again thanks for watching and the paint job on my RV still looks great and beads water.
A hair dryer blowing on cold or hot will pop any air bubbles, and also I usually mix enough mineral spirits and use a metal spoon till I get 3 drips per second off the spoon. so 1-2-3 = 1 second.. 1-2-3 = 2 seconds.. almost the consistancy of milk, this is for a air sprayer, for a roller it is 1 drip per second I found using a foam roller.
Go to any home warehouse and just look for Rustoelum gloss paint in the quart can, Get 1 can of 100% thinner and a mixing cup from Lowes Home Depot etc, Mix 1/4 paint and 3/4 thinner test your mixture on similar material and add or lessen the paint or thinner, Too much paint it will not flatten as needed and will look clumpy, the mineral spirits mix with the enamel which gives the perfect thinning effect, wish everyone luck and remember to take your time and remove the bubbles as much as you can, Thx for watching and save that money :)
good job on the RV. A little tip for future paint jobs. Go to tractor supply or rural king and get their Majic brand truck and tractor paint. It's the same price as rustoleum but has a lot more UV protection and will weather longer. Also use their Majic brand catalyst hardner to make it set up quicker and dry with a harder finish. I like to add a capful of Penetrol to my paint paint so it will level the paint for a smoother finish. You can get that at Lowes.
I painted over the decals since the pattern is already there, I haven't did the top section yet we have been doing a bit of traveling, Again I would just go over the decals to save time as well, Thx for watching let us know how things go so take your time on it.
it all depends on your material to be painted, I went 1/4 paint and 3/4 mineral spirits, adjust with more paint to fit the use, make sure to stir very good and do a small area at a time and have another roller to help remove air bubbles as I did.
I really appreciate this video. My husband and I are new owners and have a lot to learn! I realize this was a lot of work, but you made it seem so easy and doable. Do you wax it after it's all dried and set?
It was still holding up great, and since then I have repainted it again but this time with an HVLP air gun which uses the same mix ratio and is a lot quicker, you just have to tape everything, Thanks for watching.
If this is your first time trying this, which was my first time as well, You need to practice on a simular material to get the feel for it and test your mixture right, good luck and take your time and thanks for watching.
Don't buy a Gallon, with the mineral spirits for thinning a quart at a time will do, Thanks for watching, a year has passed and the paint still shines, wash after wash.
I watched your videos on painting your camper and was wondering if your camper has the gel coat sides. Mine is gel coat. It is faded and i would like to paint it to get that shine back. I had a body shop give me a price of 8 to 10 thousand. How is it holding up ? Do you have to do anything with it since you've painted it?
Kevin thanks for watching, try the Zepp polish since you have a gel coat it will bring back the luster for a entire year, see the video on it on You Tube, Thx for watching, let me know how it turn out.
Hello, what an amazing job. You have me hope! Can you please give us some more details as to how to clean and prep before painting? Exactly which rustoleum pain you used? Is the one they sell in the major home improvement stores? Is the paint a specific type, enamel, oil based, ? Thank you for all you help. Great videos!!
My husband and I own an older model Motor Home, and the paint has faded terribly. We have opted to try your method to renew the paint and look. Our accent strips are made up of a multitude of thin decals which we want to paint over and turn into another shade of the basic bottom color, did you find that the decals were visible and left a line of demarcation once it had been painted. Our ultimate goal is to use a dark shade of green on the bottom, covering some decals, a lighter shade in the middle, again covering decals, and the top will be an even lighter shade. We hadn't planned to paint the top half because the cream is in pretty good condition and hasn't lost it's gloss. What suggestions do you have for us? By the way your fifth wheel looks amazing.
Thanks for watching Claudia, to even out the stripping lines wet sand with 500 grit sand paper wet and follow up again with 1000 grit wet, use Dawn dish soap in a bucket as a lubricate while wet sanding, I also have a video on that as well. If the top is still good try the product called Zepp which is in LOWES for about $24 a gallon jug, also see a video on You Tube on that as well, Take your time and I wish you a great job.
MAX I am going to use your technique. Did you paint over your decals and create your own laying them out with blue tape or did you preserve the decals with blue tape and add new design to top panel. I prefer to paint over the decals on mine for obvious time saving. Did you do this or should I remove them.
I have read on another one of your posts that its 3/4 paint and 1/4 mineral spirits. Which works better. The rv I'm painting is very similar to your rig. Also what would happen if I used too much paint and not enough mineral spirits? Thanks and awesome work btw
If the paint is too thick the enamel and mineral spirits will not be able to do the self flattening action and it will be thick looking and you will get a thick texture, again practice on a simular mayerial until you are satisfied with the texture.
Thanks for watching, but this method is praised by those who have personally seen it or the videos, and on top of that this method has saved me over $7000.00, I will take those odds any day with satisfying results. Again thanks for watching.

I keep watching your video .... I am so impressed !
Great video....you have inspired me to paint my 1974 travel trailer......loved the music also....
Thanks for watching Mary and go do your thing, and take your time, remember the mixture ratio

Max1Chase1 thank you for your reply. I've got my nerve up now just waiting for the weather to improve....blessings
Awesome background music!
Thanks for watching, and You Tube claim I am violating copyright claims when it is just a CD playing in the background. Again Thanks for watching
Thanks and keeping it old school, and Thanks for watching.
No, but I do a good cleaning with sImple green and did a good rinsing, but I do recommend wet sanding with a 500 grid to rough it up some. thx for watching.
Great taste in music, I listen to 60's while I'm working. Great stuff.
you are painting in sun light

freespeachrulez What's ur recommendation for the ratio.. Rustoleum oil based & mineral spirits.. using a roller.. gonna do a snowplow

James Brown!!!! Love the music!!!
Bob S Thanks for watching
Do not get me wrong..
The music is great... I would rather be listening to you.
I really appreciate this video. My husband and I are new owners and have a lot to learn! I realize this was a lot of work, but you made it seem so easy and doable. Do you wax it after it's all dried and set?
You are very patient, I hollered my work truck years ago using a nine inch for the most part. How is holding up?
It was still holding up great, and since then I have repainted it again but this time with an HVLP air gun which uses the same mix ratio and is a lot quicker, you just have to tape everything, Thanks for watching.
Great music too!!!

I'm going to do a 10'x8' pop up camper. Any tips? Rustoleum white thinned by 1/4?
4 years later do you still have the RV and if so how is the paint holding up?
Also what is the weather like where you live?
Thanks.
I have read on another one of your posts that its 3/4 paint and 1/4 mineral spirits. Which works better. The rv I'm painting is very similar to your rig. Also what would happen if I used too much paint and not enough mineral spirits? Thanks and awesome work btw

How much mineral spirits did you add to a quart? Thanks! :)
Regular Rustoleum in the quart can, see other posts on the mixture for great results, thx for watching
You said you used a 2" roller. Why so small? It seems like it would take forever to do a 30" 5th Wheel with a 2" roller.
30" 5th wheel with a 2"roller I wouldn't be worried about time but now a 30' 5th wheel is a raise for concern, lol
Awesome! This is just rustoleum in a gallon can? Looks nice! Great tips!
Sorry,
but the background (noise) music was too
loud making it hard to hear and understand you...
I love your RV... Beautiful
Thats how i's be 'paintin a House? not a camper?///.. Looks good any-wayz
You are absolutely ruining any rv with this method
