Thanks for the video Chris. Just r&r'd the door latch mechanism on my 71 SB Vert which required removing the window and rear window guide. That bolt at the bottom of the vent window guide (about 7:45 in your vid) and rear guide is removable (assuming you can unscrew it) while still in the door. They're slotted on the end so you can adjust the in/out angle of the windows. If you can remove it on the vent guide you don't need to twist the guide around and risk damaging paint or chrome.
Awesome! Thank you for the tip on how to align the top of the window with the top of the vent. I've been wondering how fix this on my convertible for some time.
I do not I think, but it is just the two bolts to unscrew on the B Pillar door jam, then take the door panel off and undo the bolts that hold the window mech in place, slide the slider out from the lift channel on the glass, and the window should come out.
Great video. Where do you buy the aftermarket inner and outer window scrapers. The outers I ordered don’t have the slot to fit over that lip on the convertible doors. 1965
My window including the vent window shake back and forth (inside to outside) and after checking the mechanism I can only find that the blocks on the track are 1. Only on the top track and the other I found in the bottom of the door. However, the window goes up and down fine. I am wondering if the play in the two side of the door could be due to the accident that was on that side of the car. When the window is all the way down the vent window is stable but not if it is partially up or all the way up and it is of course worse with the top down.
What's up, Chris, my 71 super beetle convertible driver's door install rubber around Chrome. Which way is the window in Stamp? Facing top or side or bottom to get the glass in the right direction.
Do you have a video to install seal to glass to mount bracket for vent window. I can’t find the seal anywhere. Currently working on a 68 VW Bug convertible.
Hi Chris, thanks for the detailed video. I’m having an issue with my all original 1971 Super Beetle Convertible that I hope you can shed some light on. It’s an original everything 29,000 miles car. I am the second owner. I want to start updating the weatherstripping as it’s 51 years old and very tired. Before I do I want to correct an issue on the passenger vent window. It’s leaning inwards about 3/8-1/2 of an inch and has worn through the upright rubber and touches the windshield hardware bracket for the convertible top. I’m apprehensive about pulling the original door cards which are perfect and I don’t want to damage them. Do you think it needs to be adjusted inside the door or could it just be bent potentially from someone grabbing it to pull themselves up? That lower nut in the door seems like it would allow for some in and out tilt adjustment but I figured I would see what your experience is with it before breaking down the door to try and remedy the situation. Thanks in advance! I enjoy your videos.
@@classicvwbugs After reading extensively on the issue I decided that it was probably tweaked inward from someone grabbing at the vent window frame as I noticed a couple passengers doing the exact same thing. It was like this when I bought the vehicle from the original owners representative. I pulled the frame gently outward with my hands and it now appears like it should be. I’m going to order replacement rubber for the windows and doors. I’ll buy German rubber when available as I want it to look totally stock as it’s a survivor with 51 year old rubber. I’d like to hold onto my factory chrome trim and just change the rubber but the rivets that hold it all together look like they were ground down at the factory which may be tough to replicate. Thanks again for the reply!
Check the mechanism on the door when you open the door from the outside and make sure the little tongue clears. If it does not you may have to take the door handle off and modify the unit inside the door.
Great video. Hello Chris. I have a 68 vw bug vert. New top upholstered and has all new rubber on the frame. The door is having trouble closing on both sides when the top is latched on. The vent windows hit and get pushed out. Tried adjusting the vents but will only go so low due to the metal tab that the vent screw into from the top when the vent window is open. Any tricks on how to bring the vent windows down more so I can close the doors without having to unlatch the top? Thank you.
Chris Vallone. No new frame. I’m gonna try lowering the window vent a little. If not I’m gonna have to cut the tab that sits below the vent that the one vertical screw goes in to bring the window down a half an inch. What you think? Thanks
I wish you would have talked about how to remove the door glass. I can't find any videos on TH-cam that show how to do it on a convertible. What do I loosen to get the glass out?
@@classicvwbugs Yeah the door glass. I pulled on it a little bit before but it was pretty tight so I stopped. I thought maybe I had to loosen something first. Thanks for replying!
@@dybo79 Still trying to get the glass out of the door? All it is, the vertical part of the frame is on a slider inside the door, you just have to look down into the door and maneuver the frame free so it comes up and out from the top.

Thanks Chris. Got to do the seals on my daughters 78 vert soon. This helps out a lot.

Can you show how to take the glass and the vent out on a super beetle convertible. Cant find a video anywhere?
Its the same process

My ‘58 has single glass and I need the seals/rubbers but not sure what to look up to order
Where is the segment on how to get the inside sweep to hook around the bottom ? It is a J track kinda deal with a sheet metal lip to hook around.

Perhaps vent window is the correct name for wind wing
i have a problem with my door opening when i hit a bump on the road, any suggestions on what i should be looking at? cause everything seems normal.
Why does the wind wing glass come out of the rubble when opening the wind wing window on the 69 convertible?
Not sure what rubble means.

What will cause the window to tilt when rolling up or down
There is an adjustment on the mechanism by the glass on the lift channel that can be loosened and re-positioned.
How do you replace the rubber and reinstall the vent window on a 1966 convertible?
I need help on why my door won’t open from the outside but it does open from the inside on my passenger side. It’s a 58 beetle sedan
Check the mechanism on the door when you open the door from the outside and make sure the little tongue clears. If it does not you may have to take the door handle off and modify the unit inside the door.
Is it the same on a 72 convertible??
When opening the winning the glass comes away from the rubber. Why?
the rubber may be all dried out and cannot hold the glass anymore.

did you try and loosen up the top hooks that hook into the windshield?

is the frame bent in anyway?

Gotta be careful, the vent window frame needs to be in align with the windows. You do not want that lower than them.
