I have a '73, which is when they got rid of a bunch of the wood components and changed a few other things, but all and all, I don't think I would've had as easy a time installing my top if it wasn't for your video. I loved your video full of great information as I am attempting to replace the top on my 68 VW Beetle in the coming months. One thing I'd like to point out is that in your final shot it looks like your top is down wrong. Yes, wrong! I've owned my car since 1972 ... one day way back then I was looking through the owners manual and noticed a picture of a hook I had not noticed before. That particular page showed the owner how to properly lower and lock the top down. Here goes: Once the top is released from the windshield header, fold it back but stop when the top is straight up. At this point reach your hand and sometimes arm into the middle fold and push all of that material rearward, the top is about to smash all of that material by the scissor action of the frame on its way down. Go around to the other side and do the same thing. Once all that material is pushed rearward (the top, the padding and the headliner) the top will lay much flatter and the boot will fit so perfectly that you can actually snap all 6 snaps on the boot easily. The big plus is that you can now see out of your rearview mirror. It also improves the lines of the car. Give it a try. I have changed owner lives by showing them this factory method of lowering their top. The smiles on their faces are unbelievable. Thanks for the great and informative video! Oh yeah, that hook ..(seen on your video at 6:30) if it's still there after all these years, once your top is properly lowered this hook, on both sides of the frame meet up with its companion hook and allows you to hook the now flatter top in place.
I just noticed that decklid is from (what I think is) a 1971 convertible (7 louver slats in each set of the decklid). Is that true? I had heard that those decklids were a one-year-only part for '71 convertibles...very hard to find.
Hello! I'm working on a 77.5 super convertible and I cannot get the rear glass with a new seal in. I've gone through your list of video posts and none seem to show a rear glass install, although you mention in this video that there's many. Could you give me the title of a video that shows how you've installed convertible rear glass? Thanks!
That's the most important thing? not attaching the headliner, cutting, stapling materials, wood bows, etc? I have videos on installing windows in a bug, it is the same process from a sedan.

I was wrong... apparently that deck lid was a '70 and '71 year part for the convertibles. :)
