Nick: “could it have been PBS?” Tim: “No.” Fact check: Barney 100% did air on PBS in the 90’s 😂. Gotta love Tim’s commitment to his answers despite repeatedly mentioning he has a bad memory lolol
2nd grade teacher here! The change from 2nd to 3rd is big and a lot of people don't understand why. Like you said Nick a lot of emotional experiences happen but also the content shifts from learning to read to reading to learn. So happy Luke is standing up for himself and he has such a great support system. Thanks Nick and Tim for always keeping it honest with your feelings and your lives ♥
REMEMBER, your child doesn’t need to participate in the state testing. We opted-out of state testing when we lived in Colorado. Teaching to the statte testing is morally WRONG!
Some iconic movies from my childhood... Problem Child, Drop Dead Fred, The Mighty Ducks, Ninja Turtles, Homeward Bound, Free Willy, The Witches, Three Men and a Baby, Look Who's Talking, My girl, Little Monsters.
Yes Nick! As a parent of a 3rd grader who is almost done with the school year, there was a huge jump from 2nd to 3rd grade in so many different ways! The school work was harder, more responsibility was put on the students, first time really having homework, first time for standardized testing in our state, started maturing in different ways, emotions being experienced in new and different ways, etc. So many things!!
I’m around the same age as Tim and I can’t think of kids movie either from our childhood. I remember the ninja turtles movies being a big deal to see in theaters. The sandlot was one of my favorite growing up. I agree with Nick we watched a lot of things as kids that were probably for older people.
Mom of 5 kids here and I have had two so far that have leveled up past 3rd grade and there is a HUGE shift in their childhood from 2nd to 3rd grade. They still feel like a little kid in second grade. They level up in many ways from 2nd to 3rd. They start reading to learn instead of learning to read. They have a lot of growth spurts and their emotional mind grows a lot that year, they feel things in a more grown up way than they did before. I understand what you are saying. I also have a 2nd grader going to 3rd grade this summer and it is a bittersweet moment in time. ❤
40:18 The movie talk should become a regular topic. Tim and Nick should draw up a list for each other of movies, and each week they should (attempt to find time) find time to watch one and give a brief review and share thoughts. It’s always funny to hear “how have you never seen ### before” (or words to that effect).
“Yo, get your kid under control” is the realest sentence ever 😂😂❤❤❤❤ Seriously , sucks the little guy has to deal with bullying already 🤦🏼♀️Great thing mama bear works there 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes Nick you’re right. I worked elementary school for many years and it is a large jump from second to third grade. What a great dad Luke and Ethan have. 19:59
Nick - huge jump from second to third grade. My son is finishing up third grade in SC and this was the first year he's had "real" letter grades. They also start GT classes (gifted and talented, which I really wish was called something different) which has added a whole different homework and studying element. The journey of emotions this year was on another level (and super different than it was for my daughter). Third grade has also been when he's found a really tight group of best buddies within his class, which has been so fun to experience. Hope y'all have a relaxing summer!
Comment for Nick about 3rd grade: I’ve taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Third grade is a big difference from K-2. Second is a relatively easy year. First was my favorite to teach, but also the year of the most “new’ things that are learned to be able to learn everything else. Both 1st and 3rd are years of big changes. And middle of 3rd is a time of the switch from primary grades into intermediate grades. He’ll do fine with supportive parents and a good teacher. Especially if you are aware going into the school year. Enjoy the rest of the summer.
I’m a year or 2 younger than Tim and I kind of feel like the kids movies were a little more adult. We had movies like Home Alone but I grew up in the Video store era and remember just renting a ton of comedies and action films because my parents didn’t really care what I watched. I remember seeing major blockbusters in the theaters a lot as a kid in the 90s like Twister, Independence Day, Men in Black, Jurassic Park…
There were definitely leaves that fell during the Barney Show! The pop up effect at the beginning of the show was so cool too. I have a slo mo video of it, and it makes me happy.
We def watched stuff that was more adult themed. I remember watching all the old school Batman’s, Pretty Woman, Milk Money, Blank Check, and the Mghty Ducks.
My youngest is about to finish 3rd grade and it’s such a shift! She’s so much more independent and her confidence has soared!!!! It’s like they are little teenagers trapped in kid bodies ❤
Omg no literally 2nd to 3rd was soooo memorable for me! It was my first real connection to a teacher who ended up coming to a birthday party for me with her family ♥️ and then for 4th grade I ended up getting her cousin!!! Two of the most memorable/best teachers I’ve ever had. They taught me so much as a young growing kid. These really are the moments that shape you as a kid! LOOOOVE the podcast guys!
I have 3 older kids and all 3 have had bullies - and all 3 ended up friends, or at least positive acquaintances with those (previous) bullies. I, on the other hand, still have a hard time letting go of that. I am glad they are great at forgiving and I'm really glad those kids have grown and changed. But hurting my kids is hard for me to recover from.
This may already be in the comments, but, for Tim, Gremlins was a kids’ movie. It was only rated PG, which has always blown my mind because Gremlins 2 was PG-13. The first Gremlins always scared me worse (I was born in 1981), while the second one was funny. The part at the end when he tells you to check under your bed always freaked me out. 😂
Nick’s face during Tim’s description of HHN houses. Nick, I feel you guy. I am not a horror slasher movie person at all. You don’t have to go to HHN. I will not judge you at all.
La lechuza is actually a lullaby for babies to get babies to sleep and quiet down. The song says “la lechuza hace shhhh, hace shhhhh” also lechuza is owl in Spanish. So the owls says shhhhhh. Lol
I felt a big difference between kindergarten and 1st grade. Kindergarten felt little and still the very beginning. I also have a 3rd grader now and an eighth grader and that feels so crazy!
Former auto insurance specialist... 100,000/300,000 is bodily injury... If you ran over someone in the golf cart... The injuries they suffered from that is 100,000 max per person or 300,000 max for the whole incident (if it happened to be say 4 people... They would split 300,000 max for hospital bills etc). It's probably cheap because golf carts probably couldn't injure someone for that amount of money unless you were being outrageously reckless. Property damage is one amount (ex: 50,000) and it's for damage caused by the golf cart to someone else's property. I definitely think Disney just wants to be sure THEY aren't liable for injuries you caused in the golf cart on their property (though I don't think it would stop someone from suing anyone and everyone if they were injured)
The Atari ET story is one that many people get wrong. The game isn't that rare or that valuable. An estimated 2 million were sold and not returned. You can easily find it for cheap. (I'm pretty sure I have a copy. I do recall playing it.) And it wasn't just ET games that were buried but an assortment of unsold games. This is also not the first time unsold merchandise from a company was dumped and buried, although most usually gets sold off to clearance houses. They weren't pulled from the store shelves but returns to the company. Also of note is that a CD collection of Atari 2600 games, including ET, were released as a cereal box prize. (I do know I have one of those around somewhere.) It may have only been in Canada though.
I fully support Nick in not going to HHN if he doesn’t want to - it’s not for everyone and that’s okay. I could only imagine my anxiety levels if I had to go 😬
I have a second grader going into third and the teachers have warned that third grade is a huge shift. No longer learning to read but reading to learn. We are all in this together. It's a crazy experience I cannot believe how fast it happens.
I’m a year or two older than Tim - some of my favorite live action movies as a kid were Coming to America and The Three Amigos (shout out to Steve Martin & Martin Short - it comes full circle with OMITB 😅). On the other hand, I wasn’t into a lot of movies as a general rule… like Nick, I’ve never seen Airplane. And I just watched The Princess Bride for the first time a couple months ago…
@Nick. On the houses, I'm not one at all for being scared. A few years ago was my first time since my wife was wanting to go. Have to say after the first house I came out and was feeling like I had the time of my life. It was just so much fun. Was it scary? Really not nearly what I pictured in my head it would be. At times a small jump here and there, but nothing nearly as what I was dreading. Overall I left that night enjoying that we went and how we got to walk through and appreciate the dedication to how Universal themes these houses and scare areas, it is truly incredible. But it was really fun, we went again last year. Some of the houses I walked out laughing because some where just funny. Others like the Halloween house a few years ago was cheesy since every room had Michael in it. I'm like okay already. lol. But we're going again this year and cannot wait! It was truly a lot of fun. It's not so scary! :) Oh hey Tim!
Blank Check, TMNT, The Wizard, Return to Oz, Richie Rich, Hook, Mighty Ducks, Angels in the Outfield, The Sandlot, Rookie of the Year, just to name a few :)
It's not "pie dad", it's "pee eh dad", "mercy" in Spanish. "Ten cuidado..." is "Beware these monsters, you will be begging for mercy." "La Lechuza", literally "The Owl" is a kind of witch, actually called La Chorca, from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. "La Muerte" is just as Death. "El Silbón" (The Whistler) is a folk monster from Colombia and Venezuela. Tlahuelpuchi is a Mexican vampire / witch that transforms into animals, like a vulture.
You guys are hilarious! The 10years or so difference in your ages makes for a lot of entertaining banter! Enjoy all the minor & major moments of your children’s lives…they grow up quicker than you can imagine. Have fun week of experiences!
What time can you begin to select attractions? I’m staying at Swan in a few weeks, and I want to make sure I’m on top of booking as soon as we hit the seven day mark. Thanks 🏰
Nick- one idea is to go to camp with your children. I’ve been going to our church camp as a sponsor with my four kids for the past 12 years. So from day camp with kindergarteners, to high school week. What a great joy it’s been- and I’ve learned and grown probably more than they have along the way. bonus: I have become very close with their friends over the years because of our shared experiences. Now many campers are young adult who are amazing friends to me.
I was a late 70’s 80’s kid… we had great movies. Both freaky Friday and parent trap had remakes. I can relate to all the shows. I can remember the shows Nick says cause that was my kids. i could never do HHN. I dont do the scary and gross stuff.
It's weird, we walked by Disney Springs Sprinkles a couple of Fridays ago (around noon) and it was closed. Gideon's line was long/didn't have a virtual queue and we decided not to wait in the line because it was getting really humid for our baby. We live in PA and our baby is definitely not a fan the heat at all. Thought about a sprinkles cupcake but that was all locked up. We ended up going to Amorette's instead. We were happy with the choice
1:35 I’m 58 years old and still peel the chocolate from around the LD’s Swiss Roll’s, and in fact, believe those that don’t are monsters and should be shunned from all polite society! Also, if you can say no to a lil’ Debbie’s Star Crunch, you are no friend of mine! 😁
Omgosh totally get how you feel about your child going to 3rd...my daughter just finished 3rd! I think for me, it was knowing she's halfway through elementary school...then its middle school! Im having a hard time accepting my son going into high school this fall. Also, I agree with Nick about slaughter cinema I would never be able to do that one. I'm from CO where we had that bad slaughter thing happen in the movie theater and ever since I can't watch movies in theaters.
Memeorial Day started after the Civil War. A group of black veterans wanted to honor the fallen, so in Charleston, SC, they decided to celebrate their sacrifice's made.
Little Debbies may not be good for you, but I always have them in the house because when my grandma was alive she always had them, so eating them is a nostalgia thing for me. Also, we used to always have tacos and nachos on Sunday nights and we would watch The Wonderful World of Disney on ABC. I went to camp as a kid that was a sleepaway camp. But it was cool cause they divided you by age and did different things for those different ages. The first year was just 3 days and 2 nights (dropped off Monday, picked up Friday), but after that it was 5 days and 4 nights (Monday thru Friday). I think it was easier for my parents with me because I'm the youngest and my older brothers had already done this camp for years. I would always get homesick (even through high school) but after the first night I was okay. Kids adapt pretty well and counselors are trained to take care of kids that miss home.
35:10 Happy to hear Nick has the same appreciation for Rugrats in Paris as I do! I still have my VHS tape. Also, nothing beats cheetos stuffed into a pb&j sandwich!
Does Jackson go to a Charter school? Our daughter went to a Charter school and we removed her in 2nd grade. She was behind all the other kids in public school and had to repeat 2nd grade.
Little Debbie’s were my guilty pleasure. Swiss rolls and Christmas tree cakes are the best. A few years ago little Debbie stopped production and distribution in Canada and it’s so depressing. Hostess is NOT superior. The funny part is we didn’t have hostess cakes in Canada for years and suddenly all hostess and no Debbie. 😢
Now I’m just commenting as I watch but Canada has Remembrance Day in November which is the equivalent of Memorial Day but kind of concentrates on the first two world wars (if I remember correctly. We always play in Flanders fields and businesses and schools hold a moment of silence at 11:00 am). But it actually is a somber occasion and we wear poppies. Many people won’t do anything Christmas related until Remembrance Day has passed in order to give the correct tribute to veterans and those that passed and not “celebrate” Christmas. I think the problem in Canada, or at least in the school system in my area is that there isn’t enough teaching or expansion on war and death to the new generation so trench warfare can be a very vague concept (especially when elementary school children have to sit at an assembly without knowing about war too much). Could be reworked to be more impactful -OR- could be turned into a celebration of freedom and life (minus the consumerism)
Nick: “could it have been PBS?”

Came to say the same thing. It’s a very pivotal year in education!
Yes this exactly! My oldest just finished 3rd grade and on top of what you said, state testing comes into play for real.
@@allytebow yes state testing is a big change! A lot of expectations are put on 3rd graders.
@@tonyacourtney3816 very much so! But honestly such a great age to teach
REMEMBER, your child doesn’t need to participate in the state testing. We opted-out of state testing when we lived in Colorado. Teaching to the statte testing is morally WRONG!
TIM: Land Before Time, The Never Ending Story, Labyrinth… classic our generation kid movies!!!! Plus all the Disney ones.
Pork chops and apple sauce reminds me of The Brady Bunch haha
Some iconic movies from my childhood... Problem Child, Drop Dead Fred, The Mighty Ducks, Ninja Turtles, Homeward Bound, Free Willy, The Witches, Three Men and a Baby, Look Who's Talking, My girl, Little Monsters.
When Tim looked at Nick and took a deep breath, I felt that 😅😂
I’m 44 and can feel Tim’s pain time and time again…no Airplane or Naked Gun Nick??? 😂🤯
Tim, you really need to do a classic movie weekend with Nick! I can't believe he hasn't seen Beetlejuice!!!😮
With live reactions. But I want to see Tim watch Nick's movies too, bc I feel like that would be hilarious.
Pulling off all the chocolate layers of the Swiss rolls before eating, brings back so many childhood memories+
32:06 The irony of Tim saying Jurassic Park came out in '92 when it literally says on his top 1993 😂😂
Yes Nick! As a parent of a 3rd grader who is almost done with the school year, there was a huge jump from 2nd to 3rd grade in so many different ways! 80s / 90s kids movies: Land before time, Honey I shrunk the kids, An American Tail, Karate Kid, The Little Mermaid. My Girl, Mrs Doubtfire

The most entertaining and fun podcast! ❤🎉
I was an extra in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, can’t wait for it to come out. Was an awesome experience. I hope I can spot myself!
Nick you have so many movies to watch!!! 😂❤❤
I am so glad that Nick is on board. I would never go to Halloween Horror nights as I am too scared, but I love to hear about it.
You two talking about camp rock and all the various actors and actresses brought the BIGGEST dad energy 😂

Nick- I hope the ring bologna you were referring to was Koegels!!😊
I was born in the 70's and grew up in the 80's and we had THE BEST movies and music throughout the 80's 😎
I was a parent at the Barney Show at Universal with our son and there were definitely LEAVES :)
I’m a year or 2 younger than Tim and I kind of feel like the kids movies were a little more adult. Nick!! I always put chips on my sandwiches or fries. Whichever is available but I agree, I love the extra crunch
Same!!! 🤤
Nick, I’m with you. I will never want to go to any of the haunted houses. Lol
There were definitely leaves that fell during the Barney Show! The pop up effect at the beginning of the show was so cool too. I have a slo mo video of it, and it makes me happy.

The Sandlot, came out in 1993. I'm an '89 baby and I've seen everything that both of you talk about. Except for any scary stuff lol.
Nick I feel the exact same way about HHN too =]
I am old, to me Freaky Friday was one of my fave kid movies -with Jodie foster (1976)!

Nick, leaves did fall down in the Barney show at Universal! I only saw it once 27 years ago, but I remember it clearly!
I’ve seen the remakes of Parent Trap and Freaky Friday, but the originals were part of my childhood because I’m older than both of you! 😂
It's not "pie dad", it's "pee eh dad", "mercy" in Spanish. "Ten cuidado..." is "Beware these monsters, you will be begging for mercy."

yes, leaves did fall during Barney. we kept one!!!
Speaking of the ET Atari game, I had a minor role on an online crime/comedy series where the McGuffin was copies of that game.
1:10:07 what is that from i recall it but cant remember help a girl out! Its driving me crazyyy 😂 x
Bonanza was the name of the show. The Ponderosa was the name of the ranch that the Cartwrights lived on

Zuul was the ghost that possessed Dana (Sigourney Weaver).
Gozer is the demon they faced at the end of the movie
Nothing wrong with your body Tim!!!!
Popcorn with cheese is the best!!!
I loved swiss rolls growing up 🎉
Michigan - pickled bologna!!
Ohh how about never ending story?
Nick, can you talk about the DAS Pass again now that the new system is active? Any updates?

1:35 I’m 58 years old and still peel the chocolate from around the LD’s Swiss Roll’s, and in fact, believe those that don’t are monsters and should be shunned from all polite society! Also, if you can say no to a lil’ Debbie’s Star Crunch, you are no friend of mine! 😁
A day late, but good morning everyone. Hope everyone is enjoying the day.
Hope you guys pay tribute/talk about the Richard Sherman from the Famous Duo: The Sherman Brothers on next week's podcast or talk about them.
Memeorial Day started after the Civil War. A group of black veterans wanted to honor the fallen, so in Charleston, SC, they decided to celebrate their sacrifice's made.
I also scrape the icing off cupcakes

“Piedad” is mercy in Spanish 😊
FYI, all of the monsters in the Monstruos house have been in episodes of Grimm. ( I'm sure Nick has never watched it, but I bet Tim has!)
35:10 Happy to hear Nick has the same appreciation for Rugrats in Paris as I do! I still have my VHS tape. Also, nothing beats cheetos stuffed into a pb&j sandwich!
I love a zebra cake❤
Does Jackson go to a Charter school? Our daughter went to a Charter school and we removed her in 2nd grade. She was behind all the other kids in public school and had to repeat 2nd grade.
The only way to eat cupcakes is by twisting and putting the bottom on the top 😊
I’ve been doing this for well over 20years
No children freaky Friday is from my childhood with Jodie Foster

Can you go to the park during the months they do Halloween Horror but not be part of the horror?
Track math lol 😂
July 19th is national hot dog day 😊
Little Debbie’s were my guilty pleasure.
Never heard of ring bologna with popcorn though and I am a Michigan gal!
