Everything said in this hearing indicates jail is where this guy should be.
lol no prison
Everything? If he is, indeed, suffering from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and hasn't been treated, he's hardly capable of being considered competent to stand trial. If, instead, he's lying to save his butt, then he deserves to live in a hole for the next 25 years.
@@johnp.2267 And jail is where he needs to be so those questions may be answered without the threat of further violence.
@@eggsngritstn Ever since Reagan removed federal funding for mental health facilities, people with serious mental health issues have been shuffled off to jails instead of getting proper treatment. While in jail, people don't get medical or mental health treatment worth a squat, since jails and prisons use for-profit third-party companies to provide said treatment, and are only expected to do the bare minimum. Usually, they do less than that.
There has to be a line drawn somewhere. Hopefully, if more people discuss the issues, we can find that line.
A prison cell is his spirit animal.
When Mr. Smith decided to go against the advice of his council, you could tell EXACTLY what everyone else was thinking about that choice, LMAO!! Normally, people waiting for their cases to be called don’t really pay much attention to the current case being heard, but omg, EVERYONE was tuned in to Mr. Smith’s sh!t show!!!!! Poor Mr. Smith. He is just dumb. Period
Raheem got to me too. He was probably thinking his case would be more favorable after the judge is done with this clown.
PR bond? Seriously? He needs to get his grandfather out of him.
Grandfather must be his cell mate in prison
😂😂
You'd be a fool not to ask tbf
@isaned 😂😂😂😂
I can only assume the magistrate set a $50k bond because they suspected it would be unaffordable I'm just glad that it is now $200k it sends a message to the defendant that he is waist high in deep poo poo.
The magistrate was probably Fink. She's pulled this shit before. She is a criminals judge through and through.
Did I hear him right? Did Judge Simpson say he felt the $50k bond was an abuse of power? Or did I mishear that?
@@Whitey2716He did say similar. I believe he was indicating the cash only was a little high, but he understood why. He set it higher, but allowed for bond. No bondsman should want this guy as a client, so he’ll sit.
@@Whitey2716"Abuse of discretion" was the term he used. Whereas an abuse of power would be (by definition) disallowed, he seems to indicate this was simply disproportionate.
50k is the same as 250k as far as he is concerned anyways so why not go for it, lol
Thank you for increasing your own bond Mr. Smith. Brilliant work.
So a defendant decides to inject themselves into the court proceedings and it actually works out badly? I know I’m shocked!
I get the sense that the poor woman Mr. Smith kicked in the face until her jaw was broken, “didn’t do nuthin’ ‘he’ said,” either. Good thing his attorney is well out of his reach…
I'm not sure how his dialect is relevant.
His dialect is relevant because that's how he speaks and we're talking about him.
Anyway, if I'm his defense lawyer, I'm telling the correctional officers to stand by the door while I speak to him. He can clearly snap at any time.
@@elizabetholiviaclark Always people like you nitpicking the wrong things, hellbent on defending the most violent, vile human beings amongst our society. Ridiculous. Mental health is not an excuse for dangerous and violent behavior. He needs to stay in prison.

@@mandyduffin6200 I disagree when it comes to paranoid schizophrenia. I represented a few people with that illness. Unless you have personal experience with schizophrenia then don't shoot your mouth off. Clinical depression is no where near the worst mentall illnesses you can suffer (I have it.) He was yelling that "his grandfather was inside 'him.' Two of my clients are in nasty mental facilities for life & the other two hung themselves in their cells. It was impossible to have coherent conversation. Cook County jail in Chicago has a huge population of people with mental illnesses. It's not the judicial system's job to house all of these people.
I love this judge! He's serious wen he needs to be n hilarious 😂 sometimes too! He cares alot for ppl. ❤
Judge Simpson is top notch. Probably my 2nd favorite after judge Manning of Fulton Co. GA. He is great at sorting these people out.
The other pending defendants are taking careful note on how NOT to act...
This is what happens when the client cant keep his mouth shut. Poor attorney.
The attorney advised him to be quiet. The defendant ignored the advice he was given. With video evidence of the beating, he is going away regardless of anything his attorney can do.

He doesn’t demonstrate any signs of mental illness. He’s just a violent rageaholic.
Most people suffering from mental illness do not commit violent offenses like this. Now one could argue long drug abuse is a mental illness, but in the context of criminality I do not think it's fair to lump all together.

Some people just can't take advice. In their head they're never wrong or guilty of anything, 🤦🏻♂️🏴
9:49 the judge almost busts out laughing. That had me laughing my ass off.
Prosecutor Hughes's telling of the defendant's record, especially the half dozen felonious assaults, made me immediately question why this guy was ever able to assault anyone else that is not a fellow prisoner or corrections officer for his lifespan.
If his grandfather is telling him to assault a woman so horrifically, let's keep Gramps locked up (a long with the grandson, of course!)
Omm, he said his grandfather was talking through him. He was having delusions because his grandfather is no longer alive. He probably has mental issues and is a danger to the community.
That prosecutor was trying SO hard to emphasize that even she didn't want to see the system dunk so hard on this dude. Theopolis, you need to stoooooooop talllllking.
“I think enough has been said”
That’s the understatement of the year. I feel sorry for the public defenders who have to deal with idiots like this.
Both attorney's did a great job. I love how judge simpson let the defendant bury himself, while giving him every opportunity to stop digging
Reasonable judge calling out a lower judge for abuse of discretion and keeping a violent felon behind bars. Never thought I'd see the day!
Ironically, he did the public a huge favor and took himself out of the game. Locked away is where he needs to be for the duration of his trial.
He was already out of the game lol
Even the prosecuter tried to help him, they forwarned him that they would try and raise his bond, before he spoke. This is nuts.
WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO HAVE HIM OFF THE STREET.....
What he's doing: He's confident in his ability to emotionally manipulate the judge, despite ALL WARNING that it was a fool's move.
He really believes crying about his grandpa will get him off the hook
Ok, let's all give Drukis a complete round of applause for doing his job to defend this absolute piece of garbage. He did his job and the criminal didn't understand what was going on and didn't want to. Well done Drukis trying to protect your client from himself, but that client wanted this and he got it.
Thanks so much OSG, phenomenal video.
I am so glad that the woman survived, and that there were both cameras and a witness. I feel so bad for the defense attorney, this guy is out of control and definitely has a sovereign citizen energy to him. I don’t think he is one, but he has that ‘I am going to do what I want to’ vibe.
If he does have those mental health issues, I hope that he is able to get them under control. However, the majority of people with mental health issues are more of a risk to themselves than they are to other people and the fact that he chose to attack someone and in such a brutal way makes me wonder if there’s much of anything that can be done to prevent future attacks especially with his past.
This dude is something else--despicable. It might be more cute and entertaining if he wasn’t equivalent to a vicious, attacking bobcat. Also I don’t think the court should rush the victim’s recovery just because this guy wants to rush everything. Just a gross and horrible guy. Don’t let him control the court. Good for Judge Simpson!
Drukis deserves an award for holding his expression even as his client asks for a "real lawyer." That's composure! 😆
I imagine he’s just staring down at his phone at this point waiting for his client to finish screwing himself over. It’s out of his hands at that point lmao.
Well, this inmate’s condition & felony is serious; no laughing matter. The police evidence he has already of the woman’s medical condition and there’s more to come, overall the man is dangerous.
AND Drukis responds politely when telling him to shut up!
I feel so bad for the victim :(
He caught a case and he can't deal with it
So glad he is behind bars. He’s so unpredictable and violent. Luckily he couldn’t control himself and showed his true colors.
I googled attorney Edward Drukis. He looked very competent.
He seemed super competent, judge shouldn't have allowed defendant to drive this bus

He’s the only one on screen that thinks he’s getting a PR bond. Everyone knows what’s coming. For heavens sake, THROW AWAY THE KEY.😮
Asking for a PR bond is so outrageous it shocks the conscience. I’m sure the magistrate who set this bond felt it was necessary and unaffordable. I have to wonder what was the relationship between the victim and this man. While I have sympathy for people suffering from mental illness, they can’t allow this man to run free. He is a clear cut danger to the public. I feel badly for Mr. Drukis. I’ve seen him before and he is an EXCELLENT young attorney. He tried very hard not to have this guy shoot himself in the foot.
Why did the judge say that you overstepped your bounds when setting the original bail?
@@dickgenitalia1506he said it was abuse of discretion? I wonder what he meant by that. Did he mean it was too much? I think it was a good amount so he couldn't get out. He's so dangerous, he definitely would've fled

Also, I believe paulsilverstein9168 mistakenly said that he was the magistrate……because he isn’t 😅
@@AD-HVACHe said abuse of discretion. It's at about 13:35 and it fits with the rest of the sentence. He says something about the magistrate going through something at the time that caused him to set a low bond, I'd assume it was an outside factor like the jail was overcrowded since if the magistrate just didn't have the evidence then that Judge Simpson has now it wouldn't be an abuse of discretion to rule based on the evidence available.
@@JimNasium71 I think the judge might have been implying that the magistrate could not set a cash only bond. I’m not sure about that but it’s pretty clear that the only one who wants that defendant on the street is the defendant.
