Usually if you see a man on a bile its because hes on it for a reason. Most of the ones around here are on drugs, have countless DUIs, mental issues, ect ect so none of them are critical thinkers!

Working for the railroad as a conductor, I've seen a LOT of stupid stuff!! I was on my way to the yard and i took the worse shortcut there,(i stay in Chicago and we are the railroad hub of America,literally) the reason i say that is because even though it's faster,there's a LOT of rail traffic because of a well know junction and popular railfan spot. Anyway, the train stopped for a minute waiting to enter yard limits. The guy had his bike and was so impatient. I had actually warned him not to climb the cars because the train was getting ready to move. As he put his bike on his back and climbed in between two auto rack cars i heard the knuckles stretching. He lost his footing and fell back. His bike fell off of him and fell under the following auto rack car. Long story short, his bike was smashed in two halves and he suffered a broken leg. I'm glad he's alive but it was not worth what he tried to do.
We see people do illegal actions, involving trains, for decades. All these people finally learn the correct actions to take. Some live to tell their friends, and some quietly fade into the roundhouse, forever!

Why howdy there JT ! I've heard and seen of trains hitting all kinds of things but when I was a child in the cub scouts we got tickets to ride a Wabash Caboose from Keokuk IA to Carthage ILL across that bridge you have commented on across the Mississippi River . About 1 mi. from our destination the train ground to a halt just outside of Carthage . The Conductor left for a bit and when he came back informed us we would be there for awhile because a car had run into the engine . We all had quite an afternoon watching all the goings on . The Conductor said he must have hit going about 45 mph because there were no skid marks indicating he tried to stop before he hit . He hit between the trailing truck and the fuel tank and it took a lot a doing to get it out . It happened in the middle of an S-curve right at the west edge of Carthage and the track is straight. It was spring and there was clear visibility for about 1000' in all directions and the Wabash had a 10mph slow order on that section of track . The driver had a serious concussion but recovered and the Conductor said there was an empty Mason jar laying on the driver side floor and the car wreaked of alcohol! He ought to know cause I had seen him pitching bottles out while crossing the bridge coming into town . He weren't no tea-toteler ! There was a lot of that back then ! I think that's what happened to that poor switchman that got cut in half back in the 60's . We lived right up over the hill from where that happened and when my buddy and I heard all the commotion we slipped down over the hill for a look see ! I ain't never seen so much blood . He was PLUM cut in half . His brother was in my cub scout troop and his dad was a switchman also for the CB&Q and damn pround his oldest boy followed in his footsteps . It was a GOD AWFUL MESS ! A RR is a dangerous and unforgiving environment ! They might be cool to watch but when things go wrong they really go wrong in a big way and they don't have to be " haulin freight " for it to happen ! Sometimes it is surreal and in slow motion and you just can't believe it is really happening but when they are " haulin freight " it can get real bad real fast ! What , no comment on the story of the wreck on top of the old Keokuk / Hamilton Bridge ? It really did happen just the way I said . Probably more info than I should have included but it was a lifetime ago and you know what they say " THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE " ! I kid you not , we sat huddled in my CJ-5 in the middle of an accident scene where the vehicles on both sides are totally destroyed , with cops walking right by us for 1- 1/2 hours before several of them from 6 jurisdictions had a little huddle and appointed one brave soul to approach my jeep and get our statements. The look on his face was priceless while I watched him look over my unscathed, untouched jeep ! And when he asked that fateful question , " DID YOU SEE THIS HAPPEN " , FOR GODS SAKE HOW COULD WE NOT ! And when all 3 of us started blithering away about a million miles an hour he doesn't bother with the statement, give us the option to come in tommorrow and do it then walks away SHAKING his head , THAT WAS PRICELESS !!!! THAT WE ALL LIVED TO TELL THE TALE , WELL ! toot toot TOOOOOOOT toot TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT ::::: :::: ::: :: : . . . . ! TOOTERIFEROUS EMANATIONS MAY BE A TRIANWRECK IN OF ITSELF ! When I finally found it and uploaded it back to movies, all the individual pieces , of which there were 50 , were gone and I had lost a load of integrity . It was 1.36gb and came back at 1.48 mb , that is a huge loss of data and picture quality . I had somewhere near 80 hrs of work into that piece and now unless I pull a rabbit out of my hat , it looks like I may have to start over from scratch ! Good GOD ! I think he hates me at times or maybe he thinks I'm Jobe ! PHHHHHHJT !

A train is pull out and this guy in a suit runs down the ramp and jumps on the back end of the coach on this moving train and climbs in the rear door. Now that's not only stupid but insane. Hate to say it, where I worked trains had a habit of blocking our crossing at shift change and many of us crawled over them to get to our vehicles. Just treaded very carefully.

Jaw, you are the ONLY videographer who follows the train and records the rear as it passes you. Great job, nobody filming trains does this!!!

Did you give any thought to interviewing the bike man? Was he a pharmacy deliverer carrying life saving drugs to a desperately ill, down on their luck, incapacitated retired PRR fireman.
That's not the first time the bike person has done it!
With all the impatience I see from people today, especially when RR crossings and vehicles are involved, it's no wonder so many younger people are developing strokes and heart disease at an earlier age. They're doing it to their own selves for no good reason!

What are the cars with the divider in the middle used for?
These cars are called Centerbeams. They are designed for carrying bundled building supplies including lumber, wallboard and fence posts. They are bulkhead flatcars that have been reinforced by a truss down the centre of the car. Along with adding strength, the centre truss helps protect cargo from damage caused by loads moving during transit.

Yes, illegal trespassers paint the graffiti on the cars. Its so bad that it is nearly impossible to see a boxcar without graffiti. When I was little there was very little of it

Switching. They picked up one car and put it at the front and likely dropped off another from the rear.
