I can recommend Rakits, they have pretty clear instructions with lots of pictures that are helpful when starting out. I built a couple of their smaller kits to start with then i built their Drum and Metal synths, before moving onto a Bastl Kastle and then a Microgranny. Now i've gone and built a eurorack case and am waiting on a small shipment of potentiometers so i can start building some modules.

VCV is awesome. I've been playing with it the past few months, and yes. It is a gateway drug. You will find yourself starting to peruse videos on making modules that you can interface with VCV, or do like I did and buy a Microfreak, to give yourself sort of a keyboard that you can play VCV with and also map physical knobs on the Microfreak with knobs in VCV.

VCV Rack is great... yeah it's not the "real thing", no real knobs to touch, no physical constraints forcing that extra amount of creativity out of you... but for someone just getting into modular synths, to play around and learn the ropes, it's awesome. Such a great community, too, the free module library is amazing. It can be a bit intimidating with hundreds of contributors... after playing around for a few days, a few great libs I found are "Bogaudio" (extremly useful, no-nonsense stuff very well done), "Audible Instruments" (they have their own take on everything and do it very smartly), "Vult" (great filters and noisy things), "Sonus Dept" (quantized sequencer), "Amalgamated Harmonics" (chord sequencer and -generators), "Aria Salvatrice" (branching sequencer and sorters), "Bifaco" (the spring reverb rocks), "Nysthi" (loads of stuff but their little tuner is one of the best) and "Blamsoft" (great oscillator, filter, reverb) and "Geodesics" (beutiful modules with a physics vibe)

Congratulations. That's awesome man. I was already kinda into this stuff when I found LMNC. I didn't know he'd take off as a TH-camr. But it's really cool to see him inspiring people to give it try. Now if I could just get him to inspire me. Lol.
I wish I had more time. But to quote the great poet and artist Dolly Parton, "Working 9 to 5... It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it."

My neighborhood has been having bulk collection going on, and I've already found a bunch of good plywood sheets and even some spools of hookup wire. And some speakers too!
I've been finding my old collections of parts recently, so now I'm wondering what kind of synth modules can be made just from 2N2222, as I've got over 2500 of those things! (They were being thrown out at a place I used to work, yes, thrown out!) It seems a lot of projects want PNP as well, so I may have to buy some 2N2907s for them. And a couple each of ADC0804 and ICL8038, it's time to make some noise!

I'm building the diy stripboard kosmo. Got everything besides the cem3340. Ordering this week. So that's vco, filter, eg, distorting vca as well as the mixer. Probably going to build the arduino 8 step sequencer too since I don't have and don't want to spend money on a controller with cv. Shit is expensive here in south africa. For less than the price of a korg volca I have enough components to build 6 of each module lol

Stumbled across your channel and this video inspired me to look up synth and electronic music stuff.
Wanted to buy a rakit APC and baby 8.
Unfortunately they are closed for now and the prices on ebay for kits are HORRENDOUS.
I am comfortable with DYI and have access to necessary parts but I can't seem to find nice guides and part lists :-(
    Any help would be appreciated.

It sounded like you would be at home in self oscillation. See what you did there, maybe?

Hey sam ,how do you even remember the late 70s 80's ?? I always wanted a tamiya buggy as a kid .. The rich kids would talk about them. I ended up modifying old scalextric cars instead..although tamiya I think also made a battery and motor kit (no R/C of course ) mazda rx7 or something that i would treat myself to at xmas eh .. Peace👍
