Great tips, I would recommend that you also close up the large gapping hole at the bottom of the door where that a/c unit condensation hose is run through, you will or have already had rats, snakes and other critters that are looking for food and comfort from the heat or cold!
So living in SoCal high desert the antelope valley I am really liking the insulation of the garage door thought about but glad to see another SoCal resident do it and show how and that it works

Except now your discharing all that moisture into your garage, in the cold winter....where soon as it hits the cold walls and surfaces, will condense. Wood walls and surfaces i might add. So say hello to rot and mold.
I know what they weigh, I put it in my comment, I was a professional garage door installer for over 25 years it doesn't matter if they weigh 2 pounds or 12 pounds it's still changes your springs. It doesn't matter. That's what I'm trying to see people think it's okay but they don't get it you can't just add weight to a garage door
Hopefully the rope doesn't break. But easy enough to install a pulley system with a electric switch that can open and close. Once again great video. I may have to try it with my work shop/ freezer/ sauna.
Cool tip fact: if people have their garage from the outside painted white their inside garage will stay 11 to 17°C/20 to 30°F cooler automatically compared to a darker colour garage because white is a great reflector of the sunlight that reflects 80 to 90% of sunlight meanwhile darker colours absorb more heat radiating it everywhere making it hotter and that something they are not going to want in hot climates so they need to go with white garages instead. On the other hand if they are in colder climates where they get mostly winter, then a darker colour or black coloured garage would be more acceptable because it absorbs a lot more heat to keep their garage warmer but if they get both summer and winter which basically most of us do then they all should get a colour garage that is between a lighter and darker colour to even out the temperature for all four seasons 👍. Great video by the way 😊

You need to also cover the door to your roof vent for the winter. The crack around that door will suck out you heat in a flash. It’s like leaving your door open.
I see these insulation kits on Amazon for the garage. Are they safe? I hear they add extra weight on the door and may put stress on the motors, but then if that’s so, wouldn’t it have bad reviews?
Yeah ik a lot of people have it worse but during the winter I just can’t workout. I live in Mississippi and 30 degrees is way too cold for me to workout in, I can handle 90 hot tho

What do you recommend for someone who's renting and looking to make a garage a hangout space I live in FL so a swamp cooler isn't really an option unfortunately 😕
I don't think there is a solution. In FL as well (unfortunately). Even if you tried running a portable a/c, as soon as you open the garage door, all that air escapes and will take a long time to re-cool. Plus, it would have to be really insulated.
It's been a while, so I don't remember how many it took. It was a fair amount cheaper getting them from Amazon than from the Depot when I bought them. I'd price them out to confirm though.
I have a game room and gym in my 3 car garage. iam wondering if I should get just one of this heaters or a window ac/heater for my fully insulated 3 car garage? If I get just a heater then I have to worry about getting something to cool it in the summer. I just don't know which way will be the way to go, two separate units one for the summer and one for winter or just find a unit that has both in it ac and heating? Garage is about 660sq ft and 8ft ceiling night, fullybinsulated even garage doors. Live in Clovis ca with a climate zone of 9b.
If you were moving would you be able to take this insulation things off your garage door? As you can see I am just learning these things based on my question :)
A swamp cooler like an A/C unit cool the air drawn through it. If your swamp cooler is drawing from outside it will need a place to discharge the extra air now in your home, however a standalone swamp cooler draws air from & discharges within the same room therefore no external venting is needed (better cooling but maybe more humidity.) A/C units discharge the heat through the refrigerant lines to the condenser where a standalone unit will need to vent outside because the condenser is inside. A window unit has the condenser sitting outside the window. I hope this helps.
I know I sound really stupid here, but my garage is freezing and I want to insulate the door, but I don't have any of those channels like on your door. It is a metal roll up door, and it is flat on the inside. Would I just glue insulation on? You are able to tuck it behind those metal channels to help it stay on.
It sounds like your door has a cover on the back side of it, look doe screws on each panel and see if they come off. I’d they do you can put the foam inside the panels of the door.
You really need those portable air conditioners to exhaust upwards, not downwards because the hot air. Considering it's a garage I doubt that portable a/c cools very well. I think you would be better suited installing a split a/c even though it's more than double but they work much better. I do like that exhaust fan and door you constructed though
I definitely agree, a split unit is in our future, but what I’m running right now I picked up at a garage sale cheap so it’ll have to do in the meantime.
I have a question about the pool, I just put the algaecide into the pool and do I need to vacuum it after 24 hours and if so, do I vacuum on waste on just filter?
I think my garage doors are already insulated in the middle, I wonder if adding insulated board like that would increase the value? I live in the northeast and am more concerned with keeping it warmer in there but as it sits it never gets colder than 35° being an attached garage. Would insulated board improve that temp enough to make it warmer so I can work in there during the winter? Say 40° plus?
I can't say for sure, but something also to check is the seals. Go in your garage in the day time with the lights off and see if you can see light getting through. Garage doors tend to leak a LOT.
My understanding is that type of air conditioner, where it’s one unit and the evaporator and the condenser are not split, is not the best idea. Because the unit draws air from inside the room, that creates low pressure that is filled by air from the outside through gaps and cracks, which is not conditioned. A mini-split would be more appropriate for this application, but likely even more expensive as well. May be good for your dry climate, but in the south, it’s not good and chews up electricity.
3.29: ".... keeps all the hot inside and allows none of it to escape." No you have gaps you can SEE daylight. You have no issulation. So NONE OF IT? Try to seal the gaps and add insulation.
so another video about insulating and running a heater and/or an air conditioner, thanks for the brilliant ideas, I bet nobody else ever thought of this.
well im screwed, first off im in texas, like the north county of houston located in a real national forest,im surrounded by huge tree's its deep deep woods,so there is not even a breeze at all,and if there were from the south in the summer my garage door is facing east,it reaches over a hundred here but,,,ok the humidity here can be up to 90 something percent all year long, making summers so hot you melt just sitting in the shade, your shirt is soaking wet,i can take it off and literally ring it out,im not lying guys,so my yard and garage is a sauna.in the winter it gets super cold again because of the humidity.if i had a air conditioner/heater in my garage i would have to tear down a wall to build a door to walk in & out so my air wont escape and a hole in the wall for a window and window unit.so this is pretty much out of the question.because if i dont add a door then every time you need to walk outside i would have to open the big door letting all my cool air out.its sept 3rd and its so hot and humid omg, were actually cutting back alot of small tree's to try and get a breeze in the yard but im soaking wet sweating in the process.
That reflective insulation is called ducted wrap and it’s a fucking pain to make compared to the regular stuff I really hope you appreciate the blood sweat people spend making the stuff
That barrier above will cause condensation ast cause issues later. You especially dont want to do it if you have a living space over the top of your garage. Will not do anything to keep cool or warm. Not up to code either.
Radiant barrier is installed in millions of warehouses across the country. It absolutely works and If installed correctly you will not have condensation issue.
I dunno how you have all the little gaps and places around your doors and windows n such and dont have a problem with mice or bugs n stuff.. hell i have damn near the whole thing air tight and still have all kinds of spiders (the big kind that like to go to where the noise is happening) and beetles .. all kinds of em.. yesterday i smashed 6 little black ground beetles and 4 big ole spiders and one little one.. today i had ants come in trying to eat the ones i smashed yesterday... if i dont keep it sprayed every season it gets worse..
A ton of these videos have been showing up on my YT feed and I'll say it AGAIN. Insulating your garage door is cool, but anytime you add weight to a garage door. ANY GARAGE DOOR, OR ANY AMOUNT OF WEIGHT, it changes your spring calculation. Which means you make your garage door significantly heavier and it screws up the entire balance of the door. Your door becomes heavier, and it now will fall down to ground like a rock. And if you have an opener, plan on purchasing a new one as well because you most likely just destroyed it. What your supposed to do is call a pro and have the springs changed to the next size up. Because your existing springs can't handle that added weight. Nor can the opener. I was a pro 25 years.
Thanks, 4☆ info , Yes Rite Some Of Our Appartment Niegbors Didn't Get Auto Openers RecentLy@ New Door, & They/it SLam s.... To Ground Became VERY Annoying. So Ya i`~Understand What Your Saying, Thanks Peace✌.
From your silver insulation installed in trusses, I can say , you are not a roofer. Think about condensation , moisture building on bottom of plywood and life of your roof shingles
I can tell you aren't either if your calling radiant barrier "silver insulation". When installing this stuff you vent it at the top and bottom to combat moisture. This stiff is very common.
Great tips, I would recommend that you also close up the large gapping hole at the bottom of the door where that a/c unit condensation hose is run through, you will or have already had rats, snakes and other critters that are looking for food and comfort from the heat or cold!

Adding foam to the door is a great idea
But there are things you need to consider when doing so
You do add weight to the door
And if you don’t have the right door springs for that added weight
The additional load will be put on your door opener
And either the springs fail or the door lift
Ask me how I know
The fuck kinda foam you put in your door?

Foam board is general 4-5 per inch.

Dont have to worry about a Pilot or venting. Def more expensive from a utility bill perspective though
I’ve got solar on the roof, and already had the laying around. A gas one would definitely be more efficient though.
Would it be horrible if I ran air condition and don’t vent it?

It shouldn’t be an issue, you can actually get film, kind of like a tent, that will help insulate the glass

Welcome!!!
I thought that the ceiling insulation had to be installed with reflective side facing outside.
Both sides are reflective.
I live in Louisiana. I'll trade you some wet air, for some of that dry air...
Haha, I’ll trade you your housing prices for ours 😂
3.29: ".... keeps all the hot inside and allows none of it to escape." No you have gaps you can SEE daylight. You have no issulation. So NONE OF IT? Try to seal the gaps and add insulation.
so another video about insulating and running a heater and/or an air conditioner, thanks for the brilliant ideas, I bet nobody else ever thought of this.
the dryer is your best "free" heat during the winter
But watch out for CO if it’s a gas dryer.
That reflecting stuff do not work, insulation is the best solution and a swamp cooler with a solar panel and you are all set
well im screwed, first off im in texas, like the north county of houston located in a real national forest,im surrounded by huge tree's its deep deep woods,so there is not even a breeze at all,and if there were from the south in the summer my garage door is facing east,it reaches over a hundred here but,,,ok the humidity here can be up to 90 something percent all year long, making summers so hot you melt just sitting in the shade, your shirt is soaking wet,i can take it off and literally ring it out,im not lying guys,so my yard and garage is a sauna.in the winter it gets super cold again because of the humidity.if i had a air conditioner/heater in my garage i would have to tear down a wall to build a door to walk in & out so my air wont escape and a hole in the wall for a window and window unit.so this is pretty much out of the question.because if i dont add a door then every time you need to walk outside i would have to open the big door letting all my cool air out.its sept 3rd and its so hot and humid omg, were actually cutting back alot of small tree's to try and get a breeze in the yard but im soaking wet sweating in the process.
🤔
pro tip. FILL the hopper with ice, then water.
That reflective insulation is called ducted wrap and it’s a fucking pain to make compared to the regular stuff I really hope you appreciate the blood sweat people spend making the stuff
On the garage door, tape strips of reflectix over the metal joints and verticals. Lots of heat and cold radiation from metal!
In between your "bay?"

You keep saying WE You meant YOU? LOL
There’s more than one person that lives at this house.
Get the dual hose AC. Single hose is horrible.
I would agree, but this one was $50 on Craigslist....
@@DoItYourselfDad nice.
We keep our CARS in our garage...
So do we, want a trophy?

Coffee will fix that
A ton of these videos have been showing up on my YT feed and I'll say it AGAIN.
These boards weight 4 lbs for a total weight gain of 8lbs....
@DoItYourselfDad lol that's what I was thinking..
@@DoItYourselfDadThanks! Interesting ideas.

Swamp coolers appear to be bacteria havens
Not if you maintain them properly.
Did he say Supra!!!????
.......maaaaaaaaybe
@@DoItYourselfDadYou know that's made by BMW?
Nice ride just expensive to fix.
How about buying a door that is made up of insulated foam filled sections?? It is the easiest way!!
Replacing an entire door is easier? Maybe if you pay someone else to do it, but that’s not the point of this channel.
