I don't like being on Nintendos side, but your argument is flawed. Just with inflation alone a $40 3DS game is would be around $54 today. Also, just because you played it back then doesn't mean it's now old and worth less. For new players it's a new game and thus worth the price of a new game.

You know the kids in the neighborhood who sell lemonade on the corner? They buy a couple envelopes of Kool-Aid for a dollar and then sell their "lemonade" for $20 a cup. You buy a $20 cup every day on your way home from work, hoping the kids will use all the cash to buy real lemons and make better lemonade. But why would they when people keep buying the Kool-Aid crap for $20 a cup?

I think people forget that these games are aimed not specifically at us but more at the casual gamers who never had a Wii ,never had a 3DS. Who really liked the super Mario movie, and who might like to play games , with the characters from the movie. I think people tend to forget the biggest chunk of the switch audience is the casual market. I'm pretty sure that Luigi and Donkey Kong will probably sell millions of copies, because of the casual market.

Not upset about the price. Never played the original DKCR, so to me, its a brand new game, and the price thus makes sense. Should I pay less now because of the low effort to port, when I didn't pay back then to compensate the high effort to make the game in the first place? Would be nice though, if Nintendo employed a loyalty program, where if you bought a game and it connects that purchase to your nintendo account, you get a huge discount on re-purchasing future re-releases / remasters of that game on newer systems.

I have bought Luigi's mansion HD and plan on buying Donkey Kong Country Returns HD both with digital vouchers, you really don't lose money doing it like that. Its the individuals choice. In my case I had the 3ds titles for these games but because of disability found playing games on my switch easier plus with Donkey Kong HD you get the additional levels from the 3DS version and you get to play two great games on the big screen and on the small screen when you're on the go, so I see the value in paying a little more. These might be old games but they're good

This is silly. You said it yourself. Nintendo DOES NOT have confidence in Metroid (understandably, as it doesn’t sell as well as it should based on the quality). As such, they made the rare decision to offer Prime at a value price. They don’t like to do that, but they had just watched Dread struggle to sell 3 million units.
Other companies, trying to make their money back in the short term, have damaged themselves in the long term, by training their customers to just wait 4-6 months for a sale. Nintendo doesn’t put things on sale because they do poorly. They put them on sale when they meet and exceed expectations. And even then, they are modest 33% off sales, at best. They would rather an individual title fade into obscurity at $59.99 than teach consumers to wait a few months.
Everybody praises Nintendo for defying industry norms, and ADDING employees and giving out raises, when everybody else is slashing their workforce, but then they complain about the aggressive defense of their IP that puts them in a position to do those things.
The other issue, is people our age look at these and say, hey, that’s an OLD game…what gives?
They act like we’re expected to rebuy these games. No, we aren’t. Not everything is about us. Every few years, there’s a whole batch of kids that are old enough to play these games which are NEW to them. It makes sense for Nintendo to devote some time and resources to bringing classic games up to the current platform. Could parents, spend $200 for a used 3DS for their kid? Some of them, sure. But it’s a hell of a lot easier to just have them on Switch. And Nintendo is going to maximize their profits by charging as much as they can get away with charging (see, Tears of the Kingdom).
Personally, I was on the fence about this, as I do, in fact, own it on my 3DS. But I pulled the trigger today. Why, I want something fun to play right now, I never finished the game, and frankly, the 3DS has never fit in my hands comfortably. I have a couple XL and an original version, but both models make my hands cramp. I’d rather just have the shiny new version. And that’s apparently worth $60 to me. Whether I’ll feel that way about DK Returns, I don’t know…
We’ll cross that barrel of bananas when we come to it.
The fact is, it’s about value. I’ve played Metroid Dread for over 300 hours. Which isn’t easier, since the game is only 5 hours long. I’ve got over 300 hours in to Breath of the Wild. Same for Tears. I have over 1300 hours into Animal crossing and recently returned to it. I decided to create a new character and add them to my island. Mostly because I’d run out of storage slots. Prior to that, I’d been logging in once a week or so to do light island maintenance and to remind my villagers I still exist.
Anyway, my point is, Nintendo has provided me more entertainment per dollar spent than literally any other company. I suppose Lego and Disney would be 2nd and 3rd, respectively. But it’s not even close. So if Nintendo wants to charge a bit more than I think they should for a game, I’m still comfortable supporting it. If I don’t get hundreds of hours of fun out of this game, they’ll make it up on the next one.

I’m buying DKCR HD because the price is justified in my eyes. I want to play the game without the gimmicky motion controls of the Wii original with HD visuals, and this game will give me just that. And yeah the 3DS port was $40, but that version was a visual downgrade from the Wii original and was priced accordingly to that. I don’t mind that you personally don’t think it’s worth buying at $60, but it’s also scummy on your part to discourage others from buying it to “stick it to Nintendo”. And since this channel wouldn’t exist without Nintendo and the Switch itself, you’re kinda biting the hand that feeds you with your trash take.

I can see Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. But some games use bigger carts to store the games. Upscaling DKCR and adding the 3D edition levels and even reprograming any controls from 3DS and Wii. I hate the idea all the games are stuck on Gimmick systems using two screens one a touch screen and motion controls. Plus look at Wolfenstein 2 and the Mega Man Collections would rather pay 60 than have a game that has to download half the game than 40 for half a physical game. I got a PS4 found out physical puts the whole game on the hardrive. Got GTA V it filled almost 500 GB and that was the hardrive I had. I sold my PS4 and am getting a PS4 Pro and an 8tb. I'm sick of cheaper quality for cheaper games. NES World Championship is a bunch of challenge games that are from the NES not the actual games which I'd rather buy a cart with all the full games for 60 than a little bit challenge game for 30 and have to keep an online thing that I renew every year or lose my progress in those games because something comes up I don't have the 20 dollar renew fee because an emergency. I mis the days of Midway Arcade Treasures, Mega Man Anniversary Collection which was all on disc, the Zelda Collectors disc. I'd be more mad at Nintendo Online and Virtual Console. Which you had to pay so much for one game each when you use to buy one disc usually a bulk price of 30 to 40 or even a free preorder bonus and had upwards to 50 or more arcade perfect ports.

Yes, we understand inflation, but this is asking full price for something they already made a lot of money on in the first release. Re-releases don't have the same production costs as new games and thus should be offered at a lower price point. It's fair. We already bought it once, they're just double dipping by charging full price. This is more of an upgrade scenario.

Look, the reality of the matter is, the huge bulk of gamers especially Nintendo ppl are like me: we’re casuals. We’re not ppl who buy all the games. We’re going to buy a game or two here and there because we don’t got time to be playing everything and owning everything on every platform in history. $60 once in awhile is totally doable. You need to keep your perspective aligned with reality cuz it’s not check for this situation.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO is stop telling adults how and what to spend their money on. People have the ability to think for themselves and determine what’s worth it for them based on their money management ways. STOP BELITTLING OTHERS.

Your reasoning as to why no one is talking about those games is flawed. They're not talking about it due to these people having already played Luigi's Mansion 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns and its 3DS port. And since there's nothing new added of course they're skipping it since again it's something they already played so there's no point in buying it when they could boot up their Wii or 3DS to play those games. Essentially what I'm trying to say is that the target audience for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD isn't you. The target audience is people who never played those games. You have to remember that Luigi Mansion 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns as well as the 3DS port of Donkey Kong Country Returns were released almost a decade ago on Consoles that are no longer being supported. With that time there will be a good chunk of people who've never played these games so Nintendo is capitalizing on that fact with these remasters. Would it be nice if they did add new content? Of course but they didn't and that was not a big deal for me since I already played these games so I have no need to buy them again.

Of course but I can’t justify those games being full priced because less work went into them. To me a game built from the ground up has more value then a game that is considered a remaster or slightly makes the visuals better or adds a bit of extra content on top of the base game. To me a game like links awakening is worth more then a game like Metroid prime remastered because links awakening; even though it was a remake, a lot of work went into rebuilding it from the ground up with new assets where as Metroid prime remastered is bassically a remaster with not alot of work going into it since all they are doing is making the visuals better but they arn’t really remaking Metroid prime 1 so it’s not really being made with new assets from the ground up since it is still using the original game as a base. To me links awakening required them to create new assets from the ground up. A remaster only slightly alters the visuals.

@@Merciless_Zero Oh of course I completely understand your point. I'm not trying to say that a game like the Links Awakening remake or the recent Thousand Year Door remake has equal value to the Luigi Mansion 2 port or the Donkey Kong Country Returns port. Because that's what they are to me. Straight ports with updated visuals. I don't even count DK Returns since the new content isn't new it just was on the 3DS port of the game. In my opinion, both old players and potential new players deserve better than what's being given. It's not fair that neither gets a good thing. Old players don't get any new content that warrants the 60-dollar price tag and new players basically get the same game that the old players got when those original games were released just with slight overhalls in graphics. Hopefully, Nintendo doesn't continue with this trend but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. It just would suck for both parties in my opinion.

It would bother me if the Switch wasn't the obvious foundation that Nintendo will be building upon moving forward. If they were putting these games at $60 on a platform that was going to be irrelevant in one year's time, that would be cause for outrage. As it stands, any game that gets ported to the Switch is going to be made playable on Nintendo platforms for the foreseeable future, and on a cartridge, no less. That has value that people aren't talking about enough, and while I'd rather pay $40 than $60, depending on the game and how badly I want convenient access to it, $60 is perfectly reasonable.
Of course, digital is another matter entirely...

I’m getting Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, mostly because I haven’t played it before and I would like to play it legally. It was Luigi’s Mansion 3 that finally got me to come into the story and now I want to experience the rest. In order to do that, I’d either need to rebuy a 3DS model of some kind or I’d need to get the Switch version. Or I need to hope that Switch 2 and NSO is coming with 3DS and GameCube emulation to experience the first two games legally.
The Donkey Kong Country game though. Yeah, if I get it, it’ll be when there’s a sale.

And technically, when Donkey was ported to the 3DS, not only did it get extra levels, it also got a type of graphical upgrade/overhaul. They had to work the graphics to be 3D capable. Not sure what the cost on that is; but, STILL, it did have to cost extra. And the game went DOWN in price. Not all games could go 3D. None of the DS games could, because the graphics and chip were not designed for it and there actually were 3DS launched games that were not 3D capable. It's all a numbers game. More people bought a Switch than a 3DS and many players were not alive or old enough to have played it on the Wii. So, for these players it is their first time buying it and that is where the rub lies. Those people are going to pay it and it will be a "NEW" game to them; so, they will buy it and not the feel the same sting as those of us that have already bought a game like Donkey Kong twice.

Even if they did add bonus things i don't ont agree with the pricing. To me paying full price for and old already made game just makes no sence. It's not like they have to come up with new game play and a whole new storyline they got the storyline and game play there with slightly beter/updated graphics. It's not even like with links akwakening where they completely redid the art/graphics from the ground up and made it new again most of these HD's are a scam especially when it comes to the switch wich is already underpowered, how much better can they make it. Luigi's mansion 2 is an old game, it does not even look as good as 3, so why do they think it's ok to charge so much. I already put it out my head and decided not purchase it and the same goe with donkey kong. You have to know where to draw the line. For a port of a port? 60 bucks? No thanks, I will pass. Should’ve been a new game or a DK64 remake. The price the wait till January 2025 would’ve made sense, and been a more adequate way of celebrating 30 years of DK. the way I see it, it’s strange this is the game they want to use to generate hype for the park, you’d figure they’d want to reach the max amount of people as possible, so why put up a deterrent like charging 60 bucks for a port that a good chunk of your fan base has already played. The other way I see it that the labor of making this port happen is not even on Retro, but it’s on Forever Entertainment, and they’re very likely working with the code from the 3DS version. I don’t see how uprezzing the graphics, rebasing the controls, and polishing performance justifies that price or the wait if they are not adding new content. we have been starving for 10 years for something new and exciting for DK. Nintendo I’m sure has their ear to internet discourse and they know we want that for DK as well, but this is how we get repaid for being fans? In my eyes egregious and shameless. No one should be justifying paying 60 bucks when history alone shows it’s been sold for HALF of that cost for the same amount of content. Even if it is a new game for you, why pay 60 when the only thing that’s different between the 3DS version and this is simply uprezzed graphics and polished performance? is it really that worth it? 40 bucks maybe, but double the price? nope, I’ll pass. Give me a better reason to pay that price for DK than this Nintendo.

I'm not sure if you've already played Luigi's Mansion 2 or both versions of Donkey Kong Country Returns but if you have then yeah it makes sense you'll skip it since there is no reason to play it You can go and play them on your Wii or 3DS. But it's still gonna sell since these games are a decade old meaning that there is a group of people who haven't played these games so to those new people these are new games so they're gonna buy them. Honestly I feel like that's Nintendo's strategy going forward with some ports. They'll port games that are old enough that there will be people who've never played those games and then release them at full price with either little new content or none at all. So it completely screws over people who've already played these games but I guess in Nintendo's eyes the old players are not the target demographic for those remakes? I don't know but I'm trying to figure out a logical reason as to why they chose to do this.

@@basilbasil431 sure, it’ll still sell, like anything else there will be someone who’s there to buy it, but what about the rest of the fan base who has played the titles? I just find myself asking why would Nintendo put on the blinders like that and not consider the entirety of their fan base when these ports get made. Why not bring in something new to it that’ll incentivize the maximum amount of people to purchase your game? To justify the 60 dollar price point to everyone, not just those who are basically considering this a new game? I get it’s a numbers game for them and they’ll always maximize profits before all else, but these kinds of moves make an impact on an intangible value, and that’s reputation. A lot of Nintendo’s reputation comes from all the innovations in gaming it has brought and all the IP it has, but a move like this in my eyes is an act of bad faith and reputation tarnishing because it’s clear Nintendo is willing to overlook the fans who did play those games in order to fill its pockets via charging a price only people who’ve never played or owned DKCR games on prior versions could justify.

I really hope they don't go down that path that they'll make low-effort ports and use the excuse that there will be people who haven't played those games to justify a full 60 dollars without any new content. People who played these games deserve better and new players deserve to play the game with new content that could make the game even more memorable for them. Like I said I'm hoping they don't go down this route but honestly anything can happen.
