I have been having better luck using the O2/Fish tank tubing. Has virtually eliminated scaring/marring. I sometimes use both guy wiring and wrapping when I need to bend/twist a branch into the shape I am looking toward. Another informative video. Thank you.
@@GrowingBonsai we are having very hot weather at the moment in the UK watering my plants twice a day I was wondering about feeding my trees ,should I feed everything I water in growing season .I use general plant food called Miracle grow what do you recommend..
@@natrjack965 normally when it is hot trees go in survival mode. I do not fertilize trees in hot weather, also because it adds to water stress for the plant (salts reduce available water and i crease risk of reverse osmosis)
That is indeed a really nice nebari for a typical garden center tree. Good find! Using plastic pots during early development is great advice. As novices, we tend to want to put our trees into nice ceramic pots long before they really deserve it, but with plastic pots you can more carefully control initial form by employing guy wiring and regular wiring simultaneously. Also, I've found that drip irrigation distribution tubing works great as cheap, long-lasting guy wire padding.

So for a tree in development, it is detrimental to put them in one! I am sure you have seen my video last week on guy wires? I use oxygen tubing for aquaria, but the same thinking applies!

Unfortunately shin deshojo is not available anywhere near me) which I will plant in my parents yard next week. Next year I will start with 2-3 airlayers per tree (which you already made a video about :). Suggestion for a video: aftercare for successful airlayers Since this is about refinement I will come back to this video when the time comes. On your tree i noticed the bottom cut is a bit of a lump, do you plan on cutting it again? Update on the cuttings we talked about on the cutting video: Only 1 maple cutting made it unfortunately, had more success with chinese elm cuttings. Next year I will definetely try your substrate for cuttings. Happy Sunday!

Another good video. I used automotive vacuum hose on the tension wires because it’s fairly thick walls. I’m not sure about the price now since everything has gone up so much. I got a large roll years ago. I also like the idea of the mesh on top. My wife has a few bird feeders and every year in spring the birds peck at any fresh moss I’ve put on

Hm.. To be honest.. Not really. The date of publishing was around july. I would think, looking at the stage of the growth, this to be june/july. Buut.. This depends a lot on where you are located. I do not look at month of year, I look at the trees for work..

Upvoting for a good question. Saw these pots also in michelangelo bonsai channel. They make a lot of sense to me since the bottom part is smaller and thus should reduce the amount of water retention in the bottom part. Wondering what Jelle has to say about them
they are known here as bulb pots, as people use them for flowerbulbs (burried inthe garden). I once bought a stack of 100 as they seemed very good for wide rootball development. No perforations on them though!
Great video! I agree with your chosen methods and timing of application in the development of that tree. One of the main factors is how big you want your bonsai and how thick you want your trunk. If you were going to develop it into a 3ft tree with a 6” trunk diameter then you probably wouldn’t be doing those methods now. I like my maples more natural looking and feminine like this one you show - and as so we transition to using things like defoliation and branch cut backs sooner. Keep growing!

Hi Madhu, can certainly do this! In genwral, better ramification means smaller leaves. And leaves from secundairy buds are amaller.

It would be good to every 2-4 years take the plants from the pot and work on the roots to get an evenly distributed, outward growing nebari
The colour of the fresh green bark of the tree look fresh & soft .Maybe the wood is include not too hard🤔

Are those root maker pots? They have that upside pyramid shape too.
