Thank you for sharing your talent. The steps you go through to design the space was exactly what I was looking for. This video was extremely helpful to me.
Went to university for landscape architecture. Been designing/ installing residential landscapes for 8 years. Was great information to refresh on and some fantastic key points. 1. Houzz 2. Having 3 main hubs connected 3. Balancing the site with architectural features 4. Using models to scale areas 5. Keeping site lines open Great video!
Hey man sorry to message you so long after your original comment but im interested in knowing what you looked for when deciding on the school you went to? And do you have any advice i could use when looking into this career?
Some schools offer bachelors of Landscape Architecture and some do not, they only offer a Masters in Landscape Architecture. In my situation the closest to me only offers a masters but not a bachelors in Landscape Arch, so depending on what you want to do in the future I’m getting a bachelors of Business and getting the Masters in Landscape Arch. afterwards. The bachelors of business will help you maintain your business and not go bankrupt if you do plan on being your own boss after many internships and jobs you get in firms right after you complete your studies for Landscape Arch. Just putting this info out there so it can help you in any way or give you an idea bc im sort of still confused on what’s the best way to approach it
Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. I would be interested in seeing creative ways to hide utilities such as poles, wires and meters that are in the yard.
really great video. liked and subscribed. thanks so much for sharing some secrets and techniques. i would really appreciate a video on outdoor lighting design. how to draw up plans to propose garden lighting projects. thank you again.
thanks a lot Jeff ,, I need to get your opinion on my backyard landscape design before I screw up,, how can I send you the backyard drawing so you enlighten me with some advice??
Hi Jeff, Im looking to design with boulders/river rock into a slope and wanted to see if you had any tips for that? The slope doesn't have great soil so tough to grow anything on it so was also planning on putting planters in between the rocks and then cover with mulch so that it appears the grasses and other greenery are growing around the rocks naturally. Great channel btw!
Very informative. If you have incorporated green building methods and materials into your designs it would be good to learn about that. Also do you ever take into consideration a designs relationship and interaction with the local ecosystem.
Thanks for the video. If you don't mind me asking - how do you draw something complex like the existing pool in Sketchup? Do you import measurements or draw it in the program by hand? Thanks.
We import it through CAD. We draw it in Land FX the landscaping program that uses the CAD platform, then it has a connection to Skethup where we can just import it from there. Saves drawing it a second time. If you are a landscape designer or studying it, highly recommend Land FX. Sorry for the long delay, with all of these videos I can't reply to everything, still running my business. Hope that helps.
@@Mrjeffwortham Thank you for this answer! I'm a homeowner but have some CAD experience from 20 years ago in college and was wondering what current programs would be helpful to learn and refresh my knowledge as I work to design our own outdoor spaces. I know the video and reply are a few years old now. Would Sketchup & Land FX still be your top picks? Are there any other suggestions you have now in 2021? Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I love your channel.
Hello There, Love from india. Your Gardening Ideas are very attractive. We have a ample backyard at our house and want to convert it into an awesome garden. Would love to have your assistance. Thank you
The question about how much does a Landscape Architect make per year. I can only answer for what I am familiar with in northern California. The low range for starting with a bachelors degree in our area is $45-50K/ year. How high it goes has a lot to do with how senior your position is and what type of work you focus on. My knowledge of the high end is $150K+/year. I have seen public jobs working for cities and so forth offering 70-100k and benefits in our area.
My name is Chris I am looking for information for a job I’m doing. I own a landscape Maintenence company and I’ve been doing landscaping all my life. I just landed the biggest job to date. The homeowner has a 7,000 sq ft home on palm beach FL that is being built from scratch. He wants a complete design and install, then maintenance after we are finished installing. I’ve never done any type of design work before and don’t Even know where to start. I’ve never been to any landscape architect school I’ve just been doing this for 20 years since I was a kid and just learned everything as I go. I’m scouring the internet for information so I can complete my job and do it right. The construction of the home isn’t finished yet, so my common sense says wait till everything is finished before any design work can be done. The driveway patio and walkways around the property are not in yet. Stuff is still all dug up with an excavator and it’s obvious that the state of the property is close to being finished but not enough to where you could go in and make a complete landscape design. Not knowing where the driveway walkways and patio will be it’s difficult to come up with any ideas. The homeowner knows that it still needs more time to be completed so we are both of the same page. I would assume first I need to get with the builder to get a copy of the blueprints to see what the home will look like complete. I assume that is what you would use to be able to create your design by laying a piece of parchment paper on top of the blueprint and then creating your sketches from there. At least that was how my mother always did her interior design jobs when I’d watch her she’d have the blueprint under the parchment paper stenciling in the furniture and the interior design. Once you have your sketch then it goes into the computer and that is where I get lost. Any pointers or tips would be most greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi, can you please design a half basketball court 20"x25" with a sitting area, playground area, and gardening area? The house has a screened lanai. We do not have a pool. Thanks.
