    Trust me when I say that anyone who is watching this video is definetely "not bored." Don't apologize for teaching. :) As someone who just likes to plant without planning, this is a great video. Thankyou.

    I'm a Master Gardener and have taken garden design courses before but this is the best explanation of how to start a plan that I have seen. I'm going to follow your process to revamp some of my spaces this year. So helpful! Especially love the practical aspects you incorporated in (wind screens, keeping a view of neighbor's trees, filling the low spots). In my earlier plans, it was always about the plants I wanted but I can see how your process will really help enhance what I've already started. Thank you for posting this!

    When I first started my total gardening immersion, I made the classic rookie error of buying 1 or 2 of every plant that caught my eye. I think it’s a right of passage! ....It took me about 2 years of trying in vain to make them all work before I dug every single one up to start again. A LOT of hard work but so worth it in the end. 😎

    A garden to me is an oasis of nature, a place to escape. This is different than a flower bed, like the front of most homes. A garden is usually away from the road, a place that you can sit surrounded by your favorite plants.
    Thank you for talking about the water around the house. One mistake I made when designing my garden and flower beds was not thinking of the soil grade. We had recently bought the house and didn't realize how much standing water there was around the foundation because the soil had settled so much (despite all the downspouts being previously extended). Before planting or bringing in gravel, etc. it is really important to first bring the soil level up around the foundation. In my case, I had to go back and fix things after I already had everything in place. That made everything much more difficult.

    • @greatgardensforall
      @greatgardensforall  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, water can really damage the foundation. I actually had the same problem next to our kitchen and after we fixed it I planted some hollies and other plants knowing I can sleep peacefully at night 😁

      Y Garden ...interesting...how do you get someone stubborn to understand that?? It makes me cry that someone doesn’t take it seriously...I do not want an Amazon rain forest...I would like a garden...

    Brilliant and oh so practical! I love how you stressed that...towards the end. Initially, as beginners we are so excited but quickly overwhelm ourselves by stuffing a bunch of plants in hoping to create the beautiful space but totally forget to prioritize safety, structure, and practicality! And it helps that you have a calm and soothing tone. Thanks Yulia!

It is good because I can theoretically do many things, but it is bad because I do not know how to get started. Your video has helped me so much!! I love that you said think big but start small. You had me at "Dream list, site inventory and site analysis." These were very exciting words! I could tell I was about to learn how to make a good solid plan for my yard/garden. I was not disappointed! (You did a great job of drawing from five feet away!) I am aware of such things as drain spouts off my house and power lines over my yard, but I never would have thought to draw them in. SO many more crucial things you brought up. You would be a dream to work with personally. You are well educated, experienced and fun! Thank you for this video! I feel I am getting information that is practical and will yield a beautiful garden that fills my needs. I don't usually remember to "Like" videos. I had no problem remembering to do so here. =)

    Wow! Yulia!! This was great. I can´t wait to get started on my yard. I want to add more to my already established garden> I think this will be very helpful. Look forward to doing homework and watching next week.

    This is just what I needed! thank you. I've been watching and learning alot about gardening the last 6 months and I'm so excited to start my new garden in the spring -- though learning that much of the work really begins now. Thank you for putting this together, you are easy to listen and learn from and I appreciate you sharing your expertise with us. And I'm going to work on the "homework" you suggested! I hope to share my garden progress with you next spring (with any success, that is). Thank you again Yulia.

    Thank you, this is very useful. I am learning to be a landscape designer so to see someone talk about the process as a real person not a teacher is very helpful x I have started my own channel as I am designing my new garden so would love for you to follow my progress

    Normally things like this bore me, but you've actually piqued my interest in designing my garden and now my backyard!

    Wow! Amazed at how quickly you broke out the space and wrote out the garden plan! definitely can see the professional hand. Also, very interesting perspective - to start with "vision garden" and "features" - like shade space, screen or just "beautiful wall" designation - i definitely see value in this approach, makes it easier to see bigger picture and not get lost in what type of plans to put where right from the start

    This video has been extremely useful for me. We have quite a large garden in the UK that completely wraps around out house with well established plants and the like. We don't get what a previous occupant was trying to achieve and trying to put our own stamp on things. All the books i've brought and read just deal with a handful of designs that don't fit out garden type and we're left not knowing how to get started. This also shows me that i need not learn a modelling software just to plan my garden, so time saved there and reinvested back into the garden. Thanks.

    Great video Yuliya! You are such a good teacher. I wish 8 yrs ago when I started gardening this series was out. I was the fire in the belly type. Worked too hard for little reward. Put plants in wrong conditions and didnt pay attention to mature size. But over the years I've figured it out but again had to over work and move plants to better conditions and appropriate places for their size. I started more formal but have evolved to more natives and a more wild look which is much easier and great for the pollinators. Thanks Yuliya😊

      Sometimes it's great to learn from experience but it's better to learn from other people's mistakes. I have killed my share of plants too 😂😂
